GT-One lover the GT-One was NOT perfect, if it was we' be seeing GT-Ones racing and winning, motorsports evolves all the time, yes the GT-One aws good but it can't compete with the Audi's and the Bentley, the only reason the GT-One's time is faster is because the track was shorter.

Yeah. Audi and Bentley have now made 2 entirely new cars that are faster, and better. The GT-One just doesn't have the same specs as them b/c of it being an old racer.

Now they put a chicane in the mulsane straight, before that cars could get the speed up to 400 km/u there.

The Bentley qualified slower in 2003 because they ran 10-15% smaller engine restrictors and so were 60bhp down on the GT-ONE. Race laps however were virtually identical, and the Bentley covered a record distance in 2003.

The top speed of the Bentley is lower than the GT-One because after the Mercedes CLR flips the ACO introduced a large gurney flap on the rear wing to create more drag in order to slow straight line speed. Engine restrictor sizes were also reduced.

Overall lap times remained similar due to improvements in other areas, and distance covered over the 24 Hours actually incresead.

BTW, I don't think there is any doubt that the Audi R8 is up there with the 917, 956/962 as the greatest Le Mans sportscar ever.

also knowledge and quality of the car (engine,suspension,aerodynamic)is very important for a LM racecar because ur engine has to work very hard---and that 24hours!---and i think the TOYOTA TEAM EUROPE JUST DIDN´T HAVE LUCK AND PERHAPS NOT A GOOD-ENOUGH-ENGINE;TOO BECAUSE TWO OF THE 3 CARS WNET OUT OF THE RACE BECAUSE OF MOTOR/GEARBOX PROBLEMS!!!

......but did anyone really saw le mans 1998 and 1999,he,he???
then u should remember how dominating the GT-One was in qualifying 99 one was on pole and the others in the top 5!!!

and in the race in 98 and 99 the GT-One was soooo dominating --a bit as the audis dominated-- all 3 cars were on the first three places(1,2 and3) with an AMAZING start about some minutes to the porsche GT1 in 98 adn to the bmw v12 lmr in 99!!!!!!
but as i said they just had no luck or the drivers couldn´t manage to drive this car so well or the engine was too weak to stay 24hours(though in 98 and 99 at least one GT-One stayed 24hours!)!!

But the point is that lemans is a 24Hr race and qualifying means NOTHING. As stated earlier the audi's are great because they are fast AND reliable. They toyota that did make it was lucky to finish.

A good engine and gearbox is quite important too! Some would say a crucial factor in a good car!

GT-ONE Lover we only need to look at your avatar to realise you like GT One's, so why in every thread do you have to go on about them?

eg: Kazunori Yamauchi is rumoured to be one of the lucky few people to recieve confirmation on their order for the new Ford GT.

GT-One Lover: GT, that sounds a bit like GT One, did you know that the GT One is the bestest best car ever ever in the whole wide world...heres some pics...etc

I wouldn't say that was harsh I'll say no more

btw That car looks like it should go alot faster..172mph, my CBR600 would do 167mph and an R1 will make 197mph...odd! With aerodynamics like that I thought it would be a +200mph creature, must be a small engine.

too weak of an engine 450hp, Probably produced a good amount of drag, but I guess the point of the article was that the car had allot of potential but lacked the funding to develope it fully.

The Allard produced too much drag for LM, and had an underpowered engine. I believe the engine produced around 550BHP. It would still be very quick around a tight circuit were handling/downforce are more important than outright power.

As I recall, the BMW V12 LMR's lead most of the race. I have it taped.

... sorry that i´m getting on ur nervs,eagle,but i just find it so unfair that everyone calls the GT-one a failure only because it didn´t win(but it won in its own class!) and that the BENTLEY EXP SPEED 8 from 2001 and 2002 gets soo much praise that it´s a very nice car and... though it won nothing,too and had nearly exact the same design of the GT-One!!

i like the 2003 speed 8 but not the 01 and 02 version because----in MY opinion---it´s a copy of the GT-One---but that´s just MY OPINION!!

here´s the "REAL BENTLEY MADE BY THE BENTLEY TEAM AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL THIS CAR WAS MADE BY BENTLEY ON ITS OWN AND DID NOT "COPY" ANY OTHER CAR!!" 👍
