So, how's the HiDef technology in televisions these days? Is it like in a generation where one has to worry less about problems?
Somethings to look out for are HDCP compliance, 1080p capability and others.
Not all high-def connections, and that includes HDMI, are HDCP compliant. Right now, a lot of people are having a very difficult time with watching high-def satellite movies in high-def because HDCP is preventing their HDCP complaint devices from communicating with each other properly. HDCP is a flawed product, and it creates a lot of problems, but there's nothing we can do about it. You just gotta make sure the products you buy can properly communicate with each other.
Next, 1080p. This is becoming the standard quality for all high-def media, including future games, movie discs and over-the-air TV broadcasts. Make sure your HDTV is actually capable of displaying at this resolution. Most HDTVs that list "1080p" don't actually display at that resolution level.
Something else to look out for is 1008p support of the HDMI inputs. Yes, Mitsubishi, and others, have made true 1080p HDTV sets that wont except a 1080p image via the HDMI connection. Why? I have no idea, but it's true. So, make sure you HDTV set has a 1080p compliant HDMI input connection.
The Cell chips are coming to HDTV sets soon. I'd wait for them. In fact, I am.
