Quick Note: Please stay on the topic of "WHO GT5 was made FOR", as per the threadstarter's wishes. Because if this does turn into a GT5 Complaints thread, it will end up closed because we have enough of those.

Personally... I think GT5 is directed at the same audience every GT since GT1 has been aimed at... the general automotive enthusiast and casual racer. It's patently not aimed at video-gamers, as it doesn't always follow video game conventions, nor does it seem to incorporate gameplay innovations or tricks that other video-games use. And it's not a full-bore racing sim, given the general nature of the tuning and the quick-tuning shortcuts available.
In other words. It's aimed at the twenty-something to fifty-something driver who spends a few weekends a year at the track (or even merely dreams about it) and is genuinely interested in a wide variety of cars. That the GT series somehow manages to appeal to teenagers and regular gamers as well is merely thanks to the depth and breadth of GT's scope.
It's not perfect, but that doesn't matter. I fall squarely within the target demographic of Gran Turismo, so it's fine by me.
I am one of those 50 something guys and I fully agree with you, one of the reasons I play games at all is because of the GT series.
And here, I believe, lies the crux of the matter: all posters on here have been playing most if not all of the GT games, so they are enthusiasts, even if they are complaining they still play, so they are enthusiasts.
I could be wrong but I don't think any other games series has a dedicated forum like this, a forum for the enthusiast.
SO, THIS is who GT 5 is for: us, the enthusiasts
