Why are Fords in the European Championship?

Painted my Zonda R white and decided to give it a run and in the A-Spec extreme series, European Championship, i.e. only Europe, at Rome, there was a Ford RS2000 and Focus ST. Has anyone else noticed this? Oh and predictably I thrashed them all.
 
I painted my Zonda white as well, looks beastly.
OT : I haven't noticed it with this particular race, but in the American championship, there was a Toyota in there. May just be a glitch or a fault in the game.
 
Both of those cars are from Ford UK. They aren't available here in the states.
 
Thats gotta be the easiest race. Anyway, those cars were not available in America, only overseas (Europe)
 
That's because Ford are originally a US company but those 2 cars are completely European. Designed in Europe and Built in Britain.
 
still i see that now (woo new facts to add to my mental collection of motoring facts) but it doesnt let you enter any Fords into the race saying they are US cars
 
At risk of sounding rude...you do realize Ford is an international company with plants throughout the world?

The own / or have owned companies such as Jaguar and Range Rover and many others. I mean VW technically owns Bugatti, however since it's produced in France it's listed as French even though the main group IS German.
 
Freaked me out that I couldn't find my NASCAR for the American Championship. Then I realised that because it's a Camry it's listed as Japanese. Sure, as Japanese as Mom's Apple pie! :)

I believe those are the only two Fords in the game that were built for Ford UK. (Might be wrong.) You should only be able to have those two participate in the race. Have you tried to enter those two, if you own them?
 
but all the in game fords are listed in game as american thus shouldn't be in that race series. Back to my question, who else has seen this?

Your right it was based on the MK

Theres the Ford Escort and Focus (old and new) Rally Cars, The old Focus RS and ST170 and the old GT40 was mainly a european car.

Then I would say that would be a glitch. I happen to work for a Ford dealership, and quite versed on most things Ford. That car is as European as the Renault Megane. It's even considered a hot hatch. We, in the states have been drooling for the car for some time. At least at my dealership.

EDIT: @jmsbrydon I did forget about the Rallies and the standard Focus'. As far as the GT40, that car was built to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. That thing shows Ford American Pride from every angle. It's as European as George Washington.

The car company is US. However, it's made for the European markets. Also, you are right about the RS2000 being it's own car.

The RS2000 was a variant of the Mk 2. Escort, the RS200 was a purpose built homologation car for Group B rallying.

Sorry, got a 0 happy there. Got to love those FIA rules that at least 200 production cars have to built! Gave us quite the road legend!

The fact the European Fords (Focus and RS200) are being shown as AI cars in the European events is basically because PD could pick any car as AI whilst we can't enter any car other than those labelled with a European country of origin.
Those Fords are in real life regarded as European (and by picking them as AI, so does PD) but because all Fords are being labelled as American in GT5, probably as a convenience or due to license issues, they simply can't be chosen for European events.
Thing is, when European Fords had a different brand name (like Opel and Vauxhall do, being both part of GM), this situation wouldn't even be there.
The only Fords which are branded differently are American too (Lincoln, Mercury, etc.), this is simply an odd consequence of Ford being named Ford almost everywhere which could be solved (easily I reckon) by labelling different Fords with different countries of origin (US, UK, Germany) but it isn't.

Of the Fords in GT5, the Escort Rally car, all the Focus', the RS200 road and rally car, the GT40's and the Ford GT are European.

As for the game, the games full of odd little inconsistencies like this, the AI can use the because they are European cars but when you try to enter the race the game reads the car as American because the manufacturer is American. Then the reverse of this is the Toyota Altezza GT1 which is a Korean car from a Japanses manufacturer and you can't enter it into the Japanese races because it's Korean. As great as GT5 is, it's very inconsistent and that's as much of a reason as you'll get as to why the AI can use those cars and you can't.

Let me say again as you got it wrong again. Which is kinda' funny considering what you said here
The RS2000 with three 0's was a variant of the Mk 2 Escort.

The RS200 with two (count them) 0's was the Group B Car.

Correct, but as Ford are an American company it looks like PD have judged all fords to be so, although as you correctly state there europeon and built in england/germany and spain over the years. they are as much european as the megane as you state but only PD can answer this.
ps ive got all these fords and non can be entered into the european championships. sad really as a owner in real life of the ST220.

ST170 was the same car as the America SVT Focus.

The Focus was still a car Designed and built in Europe as was the ST170 which is slightly different in the USA to fit with the market and regulations. The ST170 had a harder sportier suspension and a different body kit.

You are absolutely correct!!! In this thread, I am referring to the RS200, the group B car. Epic Fail on my part!!! :dunce:
