I use aids.. i find it hilarious when they take the TC of, of cars that do have them in real life.. and the come over here asking "why cant i drive without making the back wheels spin!!"
I can drive without aids i just don't like spinning out in lobbies.

Who am I to dictate someones settings? As long as the racing is clean and fun, it really doesn't matter what someone else does - concentrate on your own ride and have fun with it.

When all else fails, join C.R.A.P. and you can get onto better things.

This. This is what pure racing is all about. Anyone with the need to force their philosophy on you doesn't deserve your time.

The only thing i have to say about that is "mistakes happen in racing You can't avoid everything".

If your afraid of wheel spin then don't drive fast cars.

I've never said anything about someone using aids online but when someone wins because of using SRF etc i think it takes away from the victories.

I don't like people who make a big deal if someone uses driving aids. There's a few of them now in a racing series that I'm in and they won't shut up about people using srf. I'm honestly thinking about not racing in it because they won't let it go.....It's a free world and everyone paid for their own game. Who cares who uses assists and who doesn't? I sure as hell don't.

Well I can see if SRF is allowed and some people use it and some people don't... I think it's pretty much a given that it does give an advantage. (Unlike TC, which is different.)
But perhaps that's the point... to give people the option. Depends on what the race organizers' goals are.

But that's the thing, if it's allowed, and you don't want to use it and don't think others should - skip that series. Easy, simple.
That's the thing, if something's allowed or disallowed, and it's already settled, then you either put up & shut up or move along!
Arguing about these things just turns EVERYONE off. It's disruptive & just interferes with everyone's enjoyment regardless of their opinion or preference.

If it's not allowed, and people are still complaining about it... :boggled: Then they're just talkin' for the sake of talkin'???

Driver aids lets everyone enjoy the game.

Being rude is just a lack of style and manners.

Using ABS and TCS - just means you are happy to let the Game drive the car rather than having a dash yourself. Like a comfort Blanket.

Not every driver has acid for blood.

But using driver aids is no more frowned upon than owning a MX-5, a Ferrari or even an Audi TT.

However you are missing out on alot of free fun and enjoyment. So step up and get with the program and turn off those BSpec style driver aids.

Seriously it is just a game.

I hate using traction control period. Maybe on 1 for endurance races to save tires but it makes your car tight

Ryk

Missing out on the fun if you turn them off? (Perhaps you want to edit that.)

ABS is hardly the same as SRF, and none of them are really like just watching Bspec drive instead. :boggled:

Why does everyone have to go to such extremes when expressing opinions & preferences?

It's like everyone's always spoiling for a fight any time aids are discussed. Like everyone feels the absolute need to convince everyone else they're right & anyone who disagrees are wrong, and should be put up to be ridiculed.

SRF is absolutely stupid and shouldn't even be in GT5. I didn't even know what SRF was untill i had the offline portion of the game complete and im glad im not one of the people that ruined the game by using it to "cheat".

SRF doesn't exist so why is it even in the game same goes for all the other stuff that drives the car for you.

GT5 isn't called "Train simulator" for a reason.

The thread topic is... A question about why people get mean and rude about aids regulations settings...

Why does everyone have to go to such extremes when expressing opinions & preferences?

To answer the question, why are people like this?

I guess the answer is - they simply just can't help themselves!!

I can understand why Skid Recovery Force can be seen as a cheat because it actually gives you more grip when the game detects wheel spin on your car. But then again that's why there is an option to ban it in your lobbies.

The people who don't like assists can find plenty of racing organizations that are hardcore, or create their own lobbies without them. I've seen this before in lobbies where people put down other drivers for using assists. It's pathetic. I know for a fact that most of the fastest drivers I've raced against with regularly do not use any assists at all besides abs at 1. Good for them but not everyone has their skill..

I do ban it in my lobbies. It's also not just wheel "spin" SRF creates grip in all possible areas. If you can take a corner at max 100mph with it turned off SRF allows you to take that same turn 30mph faster.

I couldn't agree more. Some people don't have hours to spend playing and developing their skills. If using aids means they enjoy the game instead of giving up in frustration, then who the Hell has the right to tell them they shouldn't. As for SRF being a cheat, if you weren't meant to be able to use it, it wouldn't be included as an aid. Maybe the folks at PD are a lot more tolerant than many of the people who buy their product.

It's not a case of rights, they'll do it out of anonymity. If it bothers the OP so much he should find a new room though.. no sense in wondering why people do things. If you don't understand why TC off is better than TC 1.. you may want do laps on both settings until you figure it out. I think the people in question were trying to invoke constructive criticism in the only way they knew how.. through mockery. You'd be surprised at the number of people who don't know how to try to help people through actual descriptive meaningful conversation - or who don't care to. Think about it.. by trying to get him to use TC off they simply are just encouraging him to be more of a competition. Who would try to hinder someone by helping them? It's like saying "Hey you know you can do this in another way where you benefit more you retard". Sure, the "You retard" comment did not need to be added.. however if you took the advice the person was trying to convey you may actually get farther than if you didn't.

I also dislike people, for the record, that use really ignorant words so long as they really aren't deserved.. like having having TC 1 is still not like having TC 6 or something.. I could see if you had a large amount it may be called for and they have even told you that you'd be better off with 1, but to use 1 and they say something like that doesn't make much sense... It may be because they themselves have been called the very same thing for being bad at something else irrelevant and they wanted to use it against someone and your "TC 1" happened to piss them off. *shrug* I'm no psychologist though.. Some people are just mouthy >.>

That's the bottom line. Some people are nasty. For example, look at all the YouTube comments.

:rolleyes:I've seen this myself today, where this guy in a maxed out gtr was bragging he was outpacing a zonda r guy on TGTT "even though he was using srf".

Theres a sort of stigma that driving aids are a handicap that only noobs use, when this is only true to a very small extent. TCS and ASM are necessary, say, if you aren't very good and you find yourself driving a difficult car. However, there is almost no reason to use aids on a car such as a gtr or a honda civic, especially if you have racing soft tires. Heck, most cars can actually go faster without aids.

Aids suggest you are a beginner or arent very good, and people tend to pick on those kind of people because they know you can't do much back without proving their point.

I can't figure out why people don't like SRF. I'm a clean driver, but some cars just need the assist. My Mclaren MP4 for example handles much better with SRF turned off, but My RX-7's I prefer to drive them with SRF turned on. I hate it when people call you a noob for using a particular assist... TCS I can understand, but SRF should be a considered option depending on the cars being driven. LMP cars and F1 cars are horrible with no assists... I use SRF on both to keep them on the road so I don't piss off other racers.

i use traction control simply because im using a sony ps3 controller.. and not some 3rd party controller or steering wheel... if i had a steering wheel... i would turn it off in a heart beat

You're asking for an argument with this one. Just an fyi. :scared:

  1. You don't need to explain to anyone or make any type of excuses for how you play the game. It's your business, and yours alone. I see nothing wrong with what other people use or don't use, race or won't race, etc.
  2. Many play without traction control using the Sony controller. Several members of the VCRC use a sony ds3 controller to race unmodified vintage road cars - many with difficult handling, with all aids off except ABS. 👍 Some are quite fast!

So let me get this straight.

You can't drive cars without traction control because the factory controller that was ment to be used with GT5 doesn't permit it. OK

EDIT: Post 300 :)

I'm not seeing the problem with what he said.

I'm not saying it's a "problem" just it seems kinda funny when people blame their lack of driving ability on the tools that are provided for the game.

I'm not attacking him in anyway just so you know. It's his choice just giving my thoughts, that's what forums are for. 👍

Using a controller, if my car is so powerful that it makes the back wheels spin I always put TCS to 1. It is proven to be quicker and it is a real life aid that all Formula 1 cars use.

Practice is more important that natural talent in any pursuit. Guys who look down on others who use assists are effectively placing themselves on a pedestal for the amount time they can spend playing a computer game. Outside this forum that would be viewed as quiet pathetic.
