Why GM, Why!?

Because Pontiac already has a rear wheel drive V8 car and if they planned to do a Firebird, it wouldn't look like that. It would look pretty much like the Camaro.

That makes sense because they did back in the day too.

that IS a camaro with Pontiac badges etc, only the grille is different.. and in addition, if it'll be as heavy as camaro is ( as much as challenger AFAIK), it wouldn't be as good as WS6 was.

I still maintain there has to be a 'bird if there is a Camaro. I don't care about anything else, there just has to be one. Make it an exclusive 1500 production line with the LS7 or something thereof producing in excess of 500bhp then sell it for $50k and watch how all 1500 get sold in 1 second.

But...that's just a Camaro with a different front fascia and pontiac badges...

Why are people still wondering why? They said back in 2004 that the Firebird's time was over, and that it was the GTO's time to shine. I'm hoping for another goat.

Still, nobody's getting nostalgic? The Camaro is a GM product, as is Pontiac a GM company... (not thinking about it)

That car is actually very tasteful for a revival, even more muscular than before, but not steroid-muscular.

As the resident GM guy...

There are a lot of reasons why they've neglected to design a Firebird, but really more than anything, its because it just won't fit in the [Pontiac] lineup. Here is why:

- The G8 exists, and a saloon is going to sell better than a coupe under most circumstances

- A G8 Coupe is being planned given the more recent arrival of the Commodore Coupe Concept, but even then, plans may be scratched as oil prices soar. We haven't seen any two-door Zetas in a while, other than the Camaro of course.

- Pontiac will have another small, affordable RWD coupe available soon as well; The Solstice Coupe.

- The existence of the Camaro as the prominent 2+2 coupe for GM globally essentially negates the need for a Firebird. They will be running at capacity in Canada, and although it wouldn't take much to change a front fascia, GM likely isn't to spend the money to develop the extra parts if they don't need to.

- Furthermore, with the Alpha chassis coming down the pipe, changes may be even more strange than we anticipate. We're still expecting a RWD replacement for the G5/G6 (they could bring back the LeMans or Tempest name?), however the possibility for a small RWD coupe or sedan for Chevrolet seems albeit unlikely.

What it comes down to is that GM isn't willing to spend the cash developing the car when they know that they'll get very little in return, particularly when they have so much cash riding on the Camaro in the first place. My guess is that the aftermarket will likely offer a gazillion kits to transform the Camaro into a Firebird (again), but as for something that comes with a warranty from the factory... Don't keep your hopes up.

Pontiac decided to grow up, and in the process, they're leaving the Firebird behind. Thousands of fans be damned...

They're probably not being made because GM never produced these or any others. I think GM has already stated they're done with the Trans Am. Besides, I think Pontiac is already getting a strong lineup of cars without a new Trans Am.

For one, I think those things are quite ugly and quite poor photoshops.

Also, as YSSMAN said, I think they are quite pointless. It seems that while GM will always share platforms between cars, the days of building exactly the same car under different badges. You can bet that their more premium cars will definitely not have the same platform sharing as with their more mainstream products. And you also have to consider that the Camaro isn't all that huge of a market and throwing two cars at that market probably won't help for sales all that much, especially when they have the same pluses and minuses against the Mustang and Challenger.

who's the smart-arse that made a "bandit special"? your too late anyway. Burt Reynolds is allready doing that himself.

the point has been made. there's no need for the 'Bird. Ford blew it with THEIR Bird, so...
