Why can't I modify each gear with fully customizable transmission?

im sure you will be able to modify each gear, because the icons are there for each individual gear, its just greyed out. Maybe you have to unlock it at a higher level or it will be unlocked later through a system update or patch.

if its unlocked latter as you level up thats the worst idea ever

if its going to be added by a patch then the game isnt finished after 6+ years they still couldnt get it right so I have no hope that it will be fixed latter if they couldnt get it working by now

its something that ahs to be answered

I called and emailed sony and PD and the email response I got told me to check in the forums for anything even though I already said in the email that I have checked in the forums

The in-game manual specifically states you can change each individual gear ratio. So this is something that did not make it into the game in time and will almost certainly be included in a patch.

Might it be that all this is linked to the mechanical damage patch? I mean, maybe we will get broken gearboxes or engines if the gearbox is badly tuned.... and that's the reason you are not allowed to fully customize it....

Just wanted to add......... that I am level 25 and I still cannot adjust individual settings...... so if it is level based it is higher than that.

That's some crap. Some of us can care less about leveling up. This whole leveling up is frustrating especially when you've played all previous GT series and now have to do it to buy certain cars and tuning?

I'm trying to tune my s2k gear ratios for hairpins, turbo set up, and straights and it's really disappointing that I can only modify its top speed.

yea I cant believe that this is something that PD hasent mentioned yet

also about it not being on because it could cause damage to the gear box then that makes no sense because it should work before damage is turned on so you can know what the limit is - that is the whole point of delaying damage IMO so people can become better drivers, but if as soon as damage turns on you start breaking your trans because you couldnt practice before then this game is over for me

well this sucks real bad I myself am at level 22 so I am afraid if they did put it in and you have to earn this by a level its gonna be at least level 30 damn that is a long ways. I got so many cars with this tranny option yet can't adjust my gears.

after that we should all mass email PD about this with a common theme to get there attention - maybe someone can do it in Japanese that would be cool - we have to get to the bottom of this and I am afraid that the reason is it was taken out of the game and if its not put back in, I wont play this ever again

this is a serious issue, its analogous to a FPS game that you have to kill so many people before your really powerful gun you bought can shoot at full auto mode and reload faster

I had like $650,000 in the game before I even did any A-Spec races so I went to build me a awesome car and I couldnt change the gear ratios so I started on this quest to find the answer - you wonldnt believe how many people tell me that all I got to do is buy the fully customizable transmission and where to go to change them, but they must have not ever tried this because its not possible to do

Same with the Mach 1 mustang, I bought the LSD (didnt expect to change the diff ratio as GT never did before with the diff), than upgraded to the 5sp with no luck either, and you cant purchase the 6sp for this car (why not PD?) so had to go down the route of a fully customisable gearbox, which adds the whine. Sure if you want a Race inspired car/sound thats fine, but I want a lightly modified street car with a higher topspeed/different gear ratios!

If the transmission issues are addressed with a patch, I hope that the 'Fully Customizable Six-Speed Transmission' really gives every car six ratios. It was annoying to have some cars with still just five ratios in GT4(ex: TVRs), and it's happening in GT5 now as well.

but I dont care if all cars get 6 speeds, there are some that have 7 and 8 gears and some that have 4 and 5 gears even with the best trans so who cares as long as I can change the gear ratios

yes straite cut trannys are very loud, but if you just want to increse the top speed or give a car more punch out of the corner, you have to buy the race tranny. it would be nice if you could change the final drive some how with out the race tranny. This is a pretty common mod in a real car. Ive done it to several. also as far as realisum is conserned im not aware of a tranny that you can put any ratio you want in each gear. mabye there out there?

6. the AI is still stupid as hell, they will smash into me at high speeds just because I am in there "line they are programed to drive on" - also during the license test I get disqualified if I hit someone but not if they hit me, they are being dick heads and pressing on the brakes just as I am behind them in a place that needs no braking and I hit them to get disqualified

Your 6th point is getting the better of me, I have the same issue in IA at the final 2 lap race, it kills me and I can never get an advantage point since the MOFO if I pass him he just runs into me and I am screwed.

If I hit an AI I get Disqulified and if they hit me I get the same... or just pushed out of the way. That gets to a point in which I am trying for the last 2 days (15 hours playtime) to overcome this issue. No matter which setting in the car is changed, or what I do I always come in on 8th place or do not even make it to the finish line

i dont have a problem with this that much but in tight spaces it can get a bit annoying

I know what race you are talking about - its strange how you can smash into someone and be just fine but if you just slightly touch the side of the car you are disqualified for some reason

I have had the AI smash into me and I was disqualified

my trick is to use the PIT move taht cops do where you come up and slightly hit there back end and make them spin out - usually this works with no damage at all, sometimes they get hit by the people behind them and there is no one behind you for a half of lap


but back to the point - I want to be able to change the gear ratios

if PD would have come out and said here is our problem - we cant get things to work properly and if the game is released there will be some things removed from it, like the changing of gear ratios and tire pressure (as well as some other things that arent noted here) and we want to bring you the best game we can, yea I know we said this like 2 times already but really these are the things that dont work in the game and we need another year to get it right, maybe less

then released a better demo then the prologue with some races and stuff and new cars and let people play with that until its completed - we all would still buy the game and now the only thing IMO that can happen now is that GT6 will be something that they address all these problems in - kinda like how Windows 7 is a more improved Vista but people still bought Vista because of all the hype and then bought 7 because of the more hype (I got a free copy for "hosting" a house party) all the while Vista users are thinking WTF why couldnt you have just fixed most of these things with an update

well I think that they wont be fixed after it took this long and there will be a GT6 by next year that should have these problems fixed - or worse yet be more arcadeish and remove more features that make this game what it was

1. Not everyone is a mechanic specialist.
2. Being original basically means your playing "that car" not "your car".
3. It's not just the top speed it's also how the gears get through.
4. If you want to be a mechanic go to mechanic school.
5. A recap of #2 that car your driving is not the car you made.

7. This is the pinnacle of driving simulation do not expect gear ratios to be made by your brain. A car will have it's own.

Yes but many times the ratios are for street use,not different tracks, or car like old Muscle cars that need only 3 or 4 long gears to take advantage of the huge torque and maintain traction.


8. Your not the car manufacturer. Correct, and neither are the millions of car owners who modify the cars to their personal taste and liking.

stupid as hell

they release a game and its not finished - but they will finish it latter with updates after almost everyone has already played 50% of the game by now and there is no reason to go back and play them again

this game is ruined for me for about 5 years, maybe then if I can change the gear ratios I will go back and play some races again - but now I will never play the same race again unless I need the money, so all the races that I will have trouble with without an adjustable gear ratios then they will be over and done with

this is lame as hell, I cant believe that this was released like this and it deserves a 8 out of 10 for the whole game, but a 5 out of 10 for not being a complete game

you people are crazy if PD came out with human $hit you would eat it up and say "yea there isnt corn in this poop as they promised, but its still good poop"
