Why can't I modify each gear with fully customizable transmission?

Which is another fox that is done half baked..

If your gonna fix it; fix it good!

So now you can choose to hide the track and the laptimes, but the tachometer goes aswell? I need that! I wanted to get rid of the laptimes and time ahead stuff, but i still want the rev meter to see my exact shift point..

Im fearing this will be one let down after the other.. Im glad the drifting is.......okay..

yea it looks like this game is totally not finished and should have never been released at all until it was finished

I havent played in week or so because I cant stand the crap that PD has done to this once great game - hopefully they will patch this soon

I agree that it need some patching, but they certainly haven't made the game worse after the release

Agreed; but it needs a lot more patching to get it "up to standards"

thats what I fear isnt going to happen

I have already stopped playing this game all together, its become a grind that needs me to do the same dam race many times just to get some money to buy a car to do 1 race and win like 10% of what I spent on the car - not needing the car for anything else its useless

I tried Forza out and I love it, so many more races and it makes sense and the graphics dont tear

oh, yea, I can change the gear ratios!

there are many things that are wrong with the game, most of them have been there from the first gt,
fundimentally though i suspect the engine(game) programmers arn't as good as other racing titles, i've thought this since the early differances between gt and toca (codemasters)
gt has alway suffered from liniar ai driving and preprogrammed ai 'accidents' where the same car spins at the same place if you re start the same race
i think the main reason for the lack of real damage is due to the programmers not being able to make the cars avoid themselves
of course they have done some things very well, graphics... hmm just one comes to mind

what we should have had in place was a system where the AI cars matched what you took to the race, the first endurance race should have been a great on but the ai cars were rather weak, at lvl 25 the player is going to have at least one race car, so the race would have benifited from the ability to match your car

the garage layout sucks, we could have had our cars parked up in a real nice garage where you could have walked around them, even in a simalar style as the main dealer ones would have been better

silly things like two or more AI cars running the same car number is graphically poor and annoying if you want to know which one is the car you are racing in the championship

we still cant break our cars up and create weird ****, the game needs that when grinding gets stale

This is something I noticed from the beginning as well, and was more than a little disappointed at paying near $100 cdn (collectors edition) for an unfinished product. IMHO, graphics aside, GT2 was by far the best of the franchise.

since there have been 2 patches so far with nothing fixed that I can see and there is no answer from PD or Kaz about this I dont believe they will fix it

now all thats left to do is complain until PD and Kaz here about this - it takes millions of people to complain before they will even look into it I am sure so I will be number 1 on the list

I noticed this the first 3 hours after the game came out and I bought my trans and couldnt change the gear ratios - I was pissed since then

Yeah, I was quite disappointed. I thought it was a glitch, so I restarted the PS3. Then I thought you have to be a certain level, but no. I am level 25 (A-Spec) and still nothing. This is one of the key components in creating a race car and they left it out.

Come on now. Is it strange they've left it out? Yes. Is it annoying? Yes. Does it make or break a setup? No. Neither here nor IRL. So stop the drama and deal.

No, we won't. This is a glaring oversight . Most of us serious GT'rs expect to be able to tweak our tranny's. This has been 5 years in the making, and is a serious omission that kidney has been right in pointing out

us serious GT'rs
Dude, I've spent unmentionably large parts of my life with GT literally since the day the first one came out, but if you can say that with a straight face you've got far worse problems then not being able to set individual gear ratios...

In racecars, tuning gear ratios individually will make or break a setup.

my whole point is to point out how unfinished this game is

there is all this info in the game about how changing it is good and keeps the engine within the power band and so on - it goes on for like 2 paragraphs and its not even in the game

so it was removed, or left out until latter because of some bug it caused - again unfinished game - but they didnt even bother to remove the info about it

off the top of my head here are the things that show me that this game is anything but unfinished

1. well gear ratios, thats the whole point of this rant, lol
2. after a race you get money and xp and you press a button and it goes away, the arrow goes to the button on the screen only to be taken back for the xp to taly up - there are also grayed out buttons for replay when you dont have a replay but instead of skipping over them you can go to them but not do anything
3. the damage looks like everything I hit is a photoshop smudge tool and the car is a digital photo
4. the interior view something that was sosposta be a selling feature is not only only in 200 cars but some cars the gauges all dont work (my evo that you can race mod always says a half tank of gas) and the steering wheel only gets turned 90 deg or less to each side, not a 2.2 turn lock to lock like almost all cars are, no its like all cars are like F1 race cars and only have to turn a little to go lock to lock - even worse if you bought the steering wheel because you have to turn 2.2 turns lock to lock while the on screen one only goes 90 deg or less to each side
5. the menus suck
6. the GT auto is stupid, why should I have to watch the car get washed or oil changed, or puled into garage and so on and then have to press a button after that to bring me back to the normal screen
7. cant selectively turn off HUD items and/or transparency/dim/change color of on screen ones
8. no racing brakes or tire pressure change
9. cant change wheels for most cars and even so they do nothing other then look different, before and in Forza then change the weight and can even help with brake cooling

here are a few things that make no sense at all

1. the Chrome Line Shelby Cobra doesent have a year on it so it cant be used in the historic race that it would be perfect for because it requires a car before a certain year
2. I can change the ECU in cars that dont even have one but cant in some cars that do
3. I cant put a turbo or supercharger on all cars even though there should be no reason why not
4. the aero wings that can be added wont go on some cars for no reason - some already have one so that makes sense but others dont
5. back to the transmission, even though you cant change the gear ratios you dont even get more gears for some cars - my race modded older car (cant remember which one) only has 4 gears and needs 5 or 6 even

I agree with all the above. Some additions

6. why do I need a car delivered? why can't the car just appear in the corner and say you acquired the RX8 Congratulations, I don't need some animation with dodgy techno music showing a car turn its lights on , then drive 1 meter.

7. its been mentioned but needs it again. GEAR RATIOS need to be completely custom

8. when you are racing in a series, after the race ends it only shows the placings, and the points you got for that race, they don't show your position for the series overall

9. Endurance needs time compression and decompression, I don't want to watch a B spec enduro for 24 hours

I'm fairly sure it does, if I remember correctly there is a column on the left-hand side with a running total of points. Its not in order but you can work it out from there fairly easily.

Ha ha so true.

This (adjusting individual gear ratios) was the first thing and (at the time) the biggest issue I saw. Using x to drive in an analog manner is tricky at the best of times. I had expected to be able to lengthen 1st gear in many cars so that I could make better use of the torque and accelerate from low speeds without doing a burn out. Obviously this can also be achieved by using traction control. I have chosen however not to adjust the driver settings as it would require different settings for each car and I believe it returns to a default setting so you would have to change it every time you raced a different car. No thanks!

Since then I have become much better at tuning suspension and can alleviate much burnt rubber that way.

Remember these people (PD) aren't stupid. There is likely a good reason why adjusting individual gears is not available. Everyone going on about how "if it was in GT4, why is it not in GT5?" How about because one game can be played online and the other can't.
The first exploit I can see would be some noob with multiple versions of the same car, each version with a tailored gearbox for each track.
There is already huge scope for altering the handling I think they want to put a limit to it so you don't end up facing impossible opponents with untouchable cars.

It is no longer as big a deal as I once thought. Often there are other ways of dealing with the problem. I've mentioned one example but the other that comes to mind is say altering 4th gear to be shorter to give your car the torque to increase speed on a uphill section of track. The alternate method might be to refit a heavier flywheel. At the expense of a slower revving engine you will gain momentum where you need it.

At the end of the day being able to exchange a whole gear set is entirely possible, but I don't think being able to infinitely adjust individual gear ratios is something that goes on in the real world though anyway.
You just have to accept the limitations of your vehicle, not to mention that the cars have been obviously limited to certain HP and weights in order to keep them more competitive with each other and limiting their ability to outclass the classes above.

What!? :scared: that's the best part of the game [/sarcasm]

...There is likely a good reason why adjusting individual gears is not available...

Is there a good reason that they put the buttons there to do it and then grayed them out, and even included the documentation explaining why you should do it?

The reason you can't adjust gear ratios is because PD didn't finish the game (yet). Period.

Just from kaz's twitter:

待たせてすみません。それ、もうすぐアップデートする予定です。RT @jbkblack: I >Planet have tried being nice Mr yamauchi but now we are getting upset When will gearbox Be Fixed so we can adjust ratios

Translation: Sorry for making you wait. We plan on updating that very soon.

so Kaz said that he is going to fix it

maybe it will be an update to remove the text about the ability to change the gear ratio instead of actually putting it in

what I would like to know is why was it removed along with all the other things that should be there and were put in after the fact

The first exploit I can see would be some noob with multiple versions of the same car, each version with a tailored gearbox for each track.

This is possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard in relation to motorsports and tuning. So it's an exploit to tune a car differently for different conditions eh?

I think people are overlooking the fact that if able to freely adjust gears, especially the final drive, we would see glitches like the wheelies from the Escudos and GT-1s making a return.

If you look at it from a sensible point of view it encourages people to step outside the realm of simply putting a good gear setup on and starting to venture into suspension etc.. which can have just as much of an effect on the performance as good gears.

wow yea thats stupid as hell

did you know that actual race car teams have more then 1 of the same car that is tuned differently for different tracks

and so what if someone has many of the same car and 1 for each track - thats the point of this game, if you cant hang then go play need for speed, this is (was) a real racing game

Basically PD got really lazy and didnt really want to call this ''Final Drive Gear ONLY Customisable Gearbox'' is my only possible solution to this problem.. I'm pretty much a drifter within GT5 and sometimes out but this has become a BIG problem for that use of the game!

It would be really nice to adjust this ... Gearboxes are my bread and butter, my ace in the hole, my "insert random cliche here" ... You get the idea ...

The stock gear ratios are junk for racing (top gear is always too low because it's tuned for reliability/fuel economy rather than performance) and the custom box doesn't really make it much better.

I mean, if you're on say Indy, you probably want to tune your box so you're hitting max power about 2/3 of the way down the straight and are at max power in a gear or two lower coming out of the corners. Can't do that w/ the current boxes unless you happen to get lucky ...

It says for lower levels it is best not to touch each gear separately, so you can only change the top speed.

This means we'll be able to change ratios probably at higher levels.

CAN ANYBODY CONFIRM THIS?

Im was at level 34 aspec and 33 bspec and no option so far, i attempt to customise top speed every different race
