Why does Gran Turismo 5 have so many updates?

They fix bugs, and bring new bugs to be fixed by another patch, which causes new bugs...

Basicly. :dopey:

Because PD are constantly adding to the game and fixing bugs. I find it amazing that they still support the game after so long.

the updates take quite a while but its nice to see they care about the people who actually buy the game

GT5 has changed much since its release because of the constant updates and I am very happy with PD's results. The good thing is that there's more on the way. 👍

Do you?

They should support a game until another one is out, and maybe for a short time after that too.
Yes because PD is working on GT6 now and I thought all of there work would be on that.

Take Naughty Dog, producers of the Uncharted series, for example. They made Uncharted 2, did 9 updates spanning about 8-9 months and then solely worked on Uncharted 3

Agreed. I'd be quite upset if I had to wait 3+ years for GT6 and PD stopped supporting this game well before that launch.

They bring out updates before testing them properly, then we find bugs, they bring out another update & repeat

Could teach Treyarch and Infinity Ward a thing or two ;)

Nope, they're doomed.

I stopped playing CoD after CoD4 and MW2 (both PC, I know I know, MW2 was kinda hacked alot, but was great when it was fair game).

Todays games are just not solid enough from release like the older games, and everyone wants to improve their game by updates and DLC's (which we have to pay ALOT to get). Really miss the good old CoD4 days, with even free new maps!!! :(

If you think this is bad, you should play Team Fortress 2.

PD is a company in charge of its own product (unlike the CoD or NFS series' for example), so they keep the game updated because they like improvement, they gain, we gain. Everyone wins.

Except for the bugs...

When a company spends that much time (6+ years) on a game, and X amount of money, caring for it afterwards is normal.

And since most of us (GT5 players) are connected online, they know exactly how many players are playing the game, thus motivating them to "please" us, so we "please" them back by buying DLC's and all.

I'm sure they make way more than what they spend, so updating as much as they do is a no-brainer. And it's not over. I'm pretty sure they'll be updating until GT6 comes out. And when it comes out, if I ever get it, let's cross our fingers that we'll be getting a bonus from a GT5 save or account...

That was suppose to happen with prologue though. The only time it worked, was from GT3 to GT4, a save would get you 100 000$ if not mistaken.

In all fairness, those companies release their games every year. So the need for updates and glitches is more than likely implemented into their next game. Whereas the release of GT series games are much more spread out, and I'm fairly certain they use the knowledge from fixing these bugs in each update so as to prevent them from happening in their next premier release.

But I do agree, it would be nice to see a company that makes so much money off a game to offer some support a bit after their newest release. Which is why I have sworn to not support these companies and buy their games any more.

Maybe I will be criticized, but I think the true reason for so many updates is that GT5 was a half-done game. It was unfinished when it was released in my opinion. Maybe PD and Kaz were under pressure to release the game after so many delays, so they released the game unfinished and they would complete it through the updates.
You can see it in the version 1.0 of the game, for example in the ridiculous credits prizes that made you couldn't afford buying an expensive car, so as the ridiculous XP given, what made leveling up impossible. Those things were fixed with the Seasonal Events.
Also the online was a crap in the beginning.
Obviously DLC are good for the game too.
I don't know what more updates have benefit the game, but fortunately, PD reacted and now GT5 is a top game in my opinion.
But I really hope GT6 will be completed in the day of its launch.
