Why does refueling take so long?

Fueling times vary widely by racing series. In F1 when they refueled mid race, and in IndyCar, they can cram it in at lightning speed. In most sports car series I've seen it takes significantly longer, often 30 seconds or more. In less high-end series the equipment is often closer to standard street car equipment and will take even longer. At the Nurburgring 24 hours the cars actually do use standard street sized fuel hoses to refuel, and even have to queue if there is no pump available.

It might be a nice touch if the different cars in GT5 fueled at different rates, but when you consider how you may have a wide variety of very different cars in a race it kind of makes sense to leave them all at a set rate.

does it ever annoy anyone that when you refuel the gascan is nearly never on the opening where the gas goes in... my bob dosent like gas on his windows

Remember in LM racing the pit stops are longer , with a driver and seat change.

The cans are a safer delivery method over pumps and easier to regulate by the governing body.

Just did some testing on the Ring.

Peugeot 908, 42 liters and tires took 45 seconds.
Pescarolo Sport Pescarolo C60 Hybride, 42 liters and tires took 41 seconds...

Glitch? Or has someone else seen this?

I can take the fueling taking so long and missing the hole, but watching the pit crew push the new tires through the bodywork of my shiny new XJR-9 annoyed me, probably more than is reasonable.

Actually, your pit crew's effectiveness is never the same. I've had times where my pit crew is faster than another person's pit crew, and others where it is the exact opposite.
I wish that there was a Structured way of training you pit crew or something like that.

the japan gt cars have the fuel fillers on the rear but the pit crew still stick the nozzle into the side window

That's just to give Bob an incentive to drive faster. I believe they threaten to toss a match in at the next pitstop if he doesn't up his pace.

Speaking of... why is it that NASCAR still use that can-system instead of hoses?

I believe it would be related to safety. If you have a can full of fuel it will only dispense "X" amount of fuel, rather than a pressurised hose which could malfunction and spray fuel everywhere. Also, there is no risk of the driver leaving the box early and yanking a fuel rig down on top of his crew/other crews.

everything's dumber in the world of NASCAR...

That post has nothing to do with GT5 and does not help the original poster, you should prolly remove that before you get a warning.

You should probably stop being a douche before you get a warning for doing the exact same thing as what you incorrectly claimed the other guy was doing :dunce: 👎

And I think the refueling time is ok, as it's already been said, there's no pump, it's just gravity and a can.
