Why I'm very, very worried about GT5

Thanks for the layman's explanation
Careful with the spelling, Cletus, that could be taken the wrong way. I almost did. :sly:

GT5 will be exponentially nicer and more detailed.
What Fredzy said.

I'm not worried about GT5 itself. Certainly not about whether cars will backfire. But I am a little antsy over certain elements, such as, will used cars return? Will Race Mod finally reappear, along with a livery editor? Will we be able to paint over race cars, or will we be given the choice to buy blank ones to paint? This will be either a huge boon to online clubs and leagues if it's in, or a huge speed bump for it if it isn't. Will there be a Season or Career Mode? Will there be awesome race builder tools to create racing events or even seasons for online leagues? What new goodies will there be for Photo Mode?

Some of these aspects will make it into GT5, without a doubt. All of them will be cool additions to the series, though no matter what, GT5 will rock.

And yes, I save many, many replays from GT4 and Prologue, and I expect to save many megabytes of replays in GT5. At the end of a long day of racing, it's cool to enjoy the highlight reels. The cinematics, especially on the Nurburgring, are amazing and very satisfying, especially with the right background music.

Thank you TD, I edited it. My spelling really does suck.👍

I'm not on edge Tenacious D, i mean it man i don't break promises. You could snap the rules, that don't bother me but some things in life are dangerous.

yeah the framerate of the replays in the Time Trial are a bit jittery thanks the 30fps, and I'm sure it's not locked at 30 either. It feels more like 20 in some areas :(

And that's with just one car.....

GT Academy was downsized to under one gigabyte. It should be obvious that the graphics were far below the standard we should expect in GT5.

Everyone stress less, it's the same guys making the game. They've made 4 Gran Turismo's and they have each been exponentially better than the last. GT5 will continue that pattern.

- the topography of Nurburgring is immense in GT4...seeing the cars skitter over undulations is marvellous

if anything, a cut down game engine should be running smoother and faster....

Is this really something to be "Very Worried" about?

I was reminded of GT4's beauty a few months ago when I started playing it again. The only thing I really worry about (and I'm assuming here) is that GT5's replays will be 30fps, and may detract from the flow. Now, I don't have much of a problem with GT5P or the TT, but it still would be better in 60fps IMO. Well, you can't have everything, and we won't know until confirmed/we see it.

It's due to extra post-proccesing effects in replays.

I like 30fps replays as they are. With that motion blur applied, they remind me cinematic movies more than sharp 60fps graphics and thus they appear more like reality to me. Framedrops are another question and that will be solved into final game during optimisation, the same like backfires, bunch of sparkles from car contact with the road etc.

When I watch that VW Golf photo, it reminds me that exported JPEGs from photomode are about 1EV darker everywhere else than in the game. This should be solved too.

I dont read the entire thread but the first post, so, basically you are worried about Nurburgring, missing the rest of the 19 or 69 tracks?

it's due to the difference between a TV and a Progressive output display. If you play GT4 on a computer CRT monitor like I do, you will see it's just as dark as the photo mode pics :)

I find the 30fps really sluggish when using the camera angle on the replay where you can see the top of the car, the reflections on the car look really slow and stuttery, like it's running at 15fps....
Even when driving, with nose cam, just look at the road right at the bottom of screen. It sure don't look 60fps smooth!

The texture filtering is terrible so far. And the game needs some sort of supersampling as the flickering from the grand stands and stuff is highly annoying!

La sarthe track in GT5 Prologue from where? Can it be downloaded or something?

 Why are people kidding themselves that the graphics in the TT demo were FAR below the standard we can expect in GT5?! The same track in the CES 2010 demo looks no better. The track is bland anyway, and if you really think that the final game will look so much better, you are going to be very disappointed.

So you think that GT4 was exponentially better than GT3? You are going to have to explain what you mean by better, because I hope you do not mean in terms of graphics and presentation.

The reflections in Prologue often run in half of the framerate, it's just trick in some views to release some performance for other things. This all will be sorted into final game during optimisation, no doubt about it.

Can somebody answer is eny possibility to get la sarthe track in gt5 prologue?

Ok thank you.I was thinking that i miss something big hehe.

Hehe! Nah, it's quite old actually that video. Still, it passed a few more minutes while you wait for GT5, right?! ;)

This Threads title made me laugh.

"Why I'm very, very worried about GT5"

Surely you mean slightly concerned or something similar. You cannot be very, very worried over a video game for sure (if you are i think you need to look at your priorities in life. Here's how i have gauged my worries thus far.

I had chest pains for two weeks so i went the doctors, i was worried.

My daughter had to have an operation at the age of one, i was very worried.

I was locked in a boot (trunk) of a car, bound and gagged by some people i owed ALOT of money to. All i could smell was the petrol they poured on my clothes. I was very, very worried.

Once again, surely your not that worried, if you are, i don't know if i envy or pity you.

Jesus! Sounds like you had one hell of a week. And then, to top it all, GT5 got postponed. You must be beside yourself

I'd just be lying there in the dark worrying that the sound of the tyres on the road in GT5 might not sound like they do right now.

You'd have be an idiot to think I'm actually worried about GT5 in the same way as human-life aspects. Suggest you go back and read the OP in context to gaming...not real life.

Permission to pity you...GRANTED.

Never has there been a series of games where the replays are so worth watching. I remember being amazed at split screen races watched full screen, that was a great touch.

I have to disagree.. collin mcrae on PS1 had some awesome replays... different but I feel equally awesome.

Speaking of worries, just saw the Lambo damage on the video on the frontpage.

Awful, i'm glad they took their time to rework on damage.

Game would get slammed if it had shipped like that.

Well as far as 1.5 frames of youtube quality video, captured by camcorder pointed at the screen goes it was pretty much ... nothing. I'll pass judgement on the damage when I actually see some :sly:

Well then certainly everyone here who is very excited about GT5 is also incorrect... you get excited about your child being born, winning the lotto... that kind of thing...

And surely you cant be very worried about your health when the entire world may be suffering its' demise from global warming, corrupt politicians and wars... I mean yours is but one live, those other problems will affect millions or billions...

Yeah sorry about that. To be fair though we did let you out and we had let you borrow bus fair the week before which you promised to give back the following monday.

A while ago I played GT4 again (since a long time) and I was still stunned by the graphics and athmosphere. For being a PS2 title PD did a fantastic job.

Imo GT4 has a much more realistic feel to it than GT5 (from what I have seen so far). GT4's topography looks/feels more alive if that makes sence.

GT5 does look great, very sharp, but also a bit lifeless. Almost like it's lacking a soul. The gameplay (judging from Prologue and the demo) is great as always, it's the feel to it that i'm worried about.

I have the opposite view. GT4 is an astounding accomplishment on the PS2, but the limitations of the PS2 hardware rendering the backgrounds do kind of poke you in the eye compared to the graphics of Devil May Cry or God of War. However, the graphics, physics and feel of Prologue make GT4 seem obsolete in comparison. I think the main problem is that the graphics in Prologue are so razor sharp that you can see clearly in roughly finished tracks like High Speed Ring that you're playing a video game. For some people, that tarnishes the whole experience for them.

Oh well, I'm not one of those people. ;)

Sometimes GT5 looks unrealistic put beside GT4. The cars in GT5P are way too perfect looking, toyish if you want. A lot of this is due to crappy looking technology they call pixel shader texturing, or something, it's unrealistic. The new games on PC are a bit better using newer videocards. With DirectX 11 I hope we will not see these artificial looking pixel shaders anymore.
