Why not to lighten a stock flywheel.

Flywheels are designed by engineers to be structurally sound, and you can't just go grinding willy-nilly.
 
Why would someone decide to lighten the stock flywheel?

Aftermarket ones aren't too expensive either.

Maybe not applicable in this case, but some racing classes require stock flywheels, and a modified stock flywheel can have an easier time sneaking through tech then an aftermarket one.
 
I like how some guy in the thread said it being RWD or FWD doesn't matter for the safety of the driver...

If you can't figure out why FWD could be worse, you don't know enough about drivetrains...

Yeah. There's a reason why lots of race cars, and all really quick drag cars, run a transmission blanket. It ain't because the tranny gets cold at night.

[edit] Having just checked the pictures, that transmission is, as we say in the trade, grenaded. Poor Skyline.
