Will currently supported racing wheels work on GT7/PS4?

GT7 will have to be mind blowing for me to want to put out over $1000 for a tv, PS4, game, AND wheel. I may start saving, but I'll wait until I see something before I waste my money. I hope Logitech changes their minds.

AND

I hope it isn't Sony wanting money to get them into the system......

Probably mentioned it in this thread already but I'm already considering a PC build instead of sticking with console for the next gen. If my G27 is not updated for the next gen I'm looking at console+game+wheel and that's easily $CDN1000 which will get me a decent gaming PC and all wheels are supported on PC. It would mean no more GT, but unless it dramatically improves I won't be interested in the series anymore anyway so it won't be a loss.

I am really going to be upset if my T500 doesn't work on the ps4/GT 7 as we all know money doesn't grow on trees....

And in a related question, why HAS the use of Logitech wheels been called into question for GT7? They're simply USB peripheral I/O devices. Did PDI magically alter the USB spec?

They still need correct drivers, and Logitech isn't interested in building them for the PS4.

Or, at least currently......

PD better do something about this otherwise

DriveClub has Thrustmaster, Forza has Fanatec and GT has Logitech

That's a shame, I remember my 1st wheel and pedal set was from Logitech and I used it from Playstation 1 for: Need For Speed 3 Hot Pursuit. And then my love for racing and racing games only grew :(

My thought is that Logitech could make an RA box that the wheel would plug into that would have the proper code/connection that could, in turn, allow all of their wheels to plug into the PS4 through it. An 8-button box with two USB inlets (one for a wheel, one for a keyboard) would be all that was needed. That would solve ALL of the problems.

And, it could be wired for under $20, and wireless ( ;) ) for under $40. (Yes, I mean two seperate devices.)

Now that's a bitter pill for us Logitech owners. PC is looking better by the minute now.

Thousands of sales right here on the GTP server...run with it!:)

Indeed.
While I'ld like to try and retain some sort of positive thinking for the future, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be fading fast.
Definitely not the news I've been hoping for, nor expected for that matter.

I'm certainly not claiming to be an expert, or even have a reasonable understanding of how these things work for that matter, but logic tells me that this is something that should have been know and understood by both SONY and Logitech since before, or at least on, the time of release of the PS4 console.
The cloak and dagger around if or when it may or may not happen over the last 6 to 9 months seems confusing to me.

I was wondering what ace in the hole Sony had over Logitech. It seemed incredibly odd to me that they were unwilling to support... what..... Since PS2 wheels... ?

This IS unexpected, but not surprising, given Logitech's response.

I guess even Project CARS is seeing flames some what.

PD, do something please for GT :(

I recently bought my G27. I love it but I'm not willing to spend R6000 (USD$600) upwards just to buy another wheel because of "Security Chips" and "Compatibility Excuses" and in the worst case scenario I'll have to import because Thrustmaster and Fanatec are hardly sold here in South Africa. Some of these wheels are more expensive than the consoles with the game included!

There's nothing PD can do. The security chip is a system thing and you can't just make an exception for a single game. Best to start planning for either brushing up your controller skills, buying a new wheel or going the pc route where so far, all wheels are still compatible with Project cars and other sims.

However, Sony removed the HDCP on the HDMI for the PS4 through a bypass. This got removed because the Youtube community complained that they had to buy HDMI splitters in order to run capture cards. If they can do such a thing with a few drivers then certainly they can bypass this 'Security Chip' jazz. With a possibility of even removing this stupid USB Video and Music protection

The amount of people that bought G27s, G25s, DFGTs, T500RSs is a number that one can't count on their fingers. If it's that dire and people make noise about it then something can be done.

I'm holding off considering a PS4 until we hear that GT and the system will allow the Logitech wheels. Until then..... Nope.

I don't expect it to happen :nervous:

I dont see it happening, But leave it up to certain people in the community after it hits you may have something. I'm using a Bodner box to use my clubsport pedals with a g27.

Sony tends to forget that the market is predominantly Logitech when it comes to peripherals for consoles. Especially racing wheels and they sold here in South Africa. You only see Thrustmaster once in a while. So for them to axe the wheels is a very stupid decision in my opinion but I'm gonna make noise about it. If people made noise

Apparently the T500RS works on the PS4. However I don't have over R5000 to spend on a new wheel, plus I have to import a T500RS because it's not sold here, then comes taxes when I bring it to South Africa.... Possibly R10000 that i don't have on a new wheel.....

The T300RS is an exception kind of but oh wait I have to buy pedals and a shifter now which is more money and then I STILL have to import.

Apparently, Logitech and Sony had a very bad argument. In fact, Logitech successfully sued Sony for over $100 million total.

So, Sony isn't going to be easy to get into or happy to be part of doing business with someone who has taken money from them.

Sony had to PAY Immersion big $$$$

"As part of the agreement reached between the two companies, Immersion will receive the full amount dictated by the District Court, which with interest is stated to total $97.2 million, in addition to royalties. On top of the $30.6 million in compulsory license fees which Sony had paid Immersion over the previous two years, Sony will make 12 more licensing payments through the end of 2009 totaling $22.5 million, during which other royalties may also be paid"

Thrustmaster is using Immersion technology on the T100

I've been following this whole wheel technology debate for a long time..

It's not pretty..

It all could have been settled the Same way Logitech and Microsoft did -

a 10% stake in Immersion and it all would have been settled, and Sony could have full Immersion Support..

But after the SONY - IMMERSION battle - there's no way SONY will allow an Immersion Technology to be used on the PS4."

Edit done-My take on this: We will never, ever, ever have ANY Logitech products compatible with the PS4. I'm done looking. And I WON'T get one.

As I said before. Sony can die with their profits.

:banghead: , just :banghead: 🤬

It just had to be a lawsuit. So this whole rubbish about Security Chips could be an excuse? Sony, lick Logitech's feet please because sadly plenty of your customers HAVE BOUGHT THESE THINGS.

Now to start singing "We are the wheels"

To me it's quite simple really: if there's no G27 support in GT7 for the PS4 then I won't buy it, so no more GT for me, at least for a long while.

I know there are better wheels, but I don't think the improvements are substantial enough to warrant the hassle (and money :P ) of buying a new one.

BTW the DFGT, G25 and G27 are by far the most popular racing wheels, here and in other "simracing" communities.

I bet that most GT wheel users do not use a thrustmaster. If logitech wheels were not supported on PS4 Sony would alienate most of their wheel users, who make up a very large part of the GT user base. Hard to see that as the right thing for them to do financially. MS/forza did exactly that when it moved to Xbox one, and they basically shot themselves in the foot. All of my friends who played forza went to other sims when their wheels were no longer supported in forza.
