Will PD try to steal other racing games' thunder at E3?

The level of detail in premium cars is not comparable to other racing games. Even if some other developers can release dlc packs every second month or so they are not of GT5 premium quality. Yes, they have interior view and a steering wheel. Does that make them premium? Not by far (although it's still a lot better than the standard cars of GT5).

The only time you get to appreciate GT5's insane polygon count is in photomode, which quite frankly I think is just a gimmick in a racing -sorry: driving- game.

They really shouldn't waste their time modeling the security certification badges in the plastic of the headlight covers, because that's simply silly stuff for anal/obsessive people. Just make more up-to-date cars already! It's utterly crazy that in GT5 you can almost count all post-2005 cars on the fingers of your hands.

Well Forza 4 can't compete with Gran Turismo 5...and that's not coming from a GT fan lol...the peripheral market is what makes GT, the king of console simulators...there is only 1 official xbox wheel and it plain sucks lol...they are trying the whole "kinect" concept...but it will not work with the accuracy, if you need to find those tight corners and passes you are looking for.
Oh really? So you're just basing some unfounded opinion based on nothing more than 1 video?

Because the statement following the underlined says otherwise.

Not the PS3's problem if Yamauchi doesn't know how much power he has available, how much he needs to use to get a consistent game.

And 'Kaz has said' doesn't mean squat. You might as well say "My cat has said...".

I would think someone who just spent six years slaving away to bring you a half baked game would have an expert opinion on the platform he has been working on. The PS3 is great hardware but it is built to 2003 design specifications. The premium cars are more detailed than required because he doesn't want to have to do them over twice for GT6, the choice for the 400k polygon detail was that above that it was hard to see any significant improvement on 1080p output. The PS3 can handle the content that is in it now very well, but the future of Gran Turismo is more of everything, and that means boosting track details, full 1080p support (not upscaled from 1280x1080 as it is now), and getting more cars on the track; things that are simply not possible with PS3 hardware.

If GT5 Prologue has been a taste of what's to come, they should announce a free "Spec II" update (a few gigabytes large) with new cars (15-20?), tracks (2-3 + variations?) and other major updates/improvements, in addition to a new "Spec II" retail edition of GT5 (with all other previously released minor updates included).

Turn 10 produced several car packs with ten cars apiece, and as I recall they were released monthly. These were fully-detailed "Premium" cars, too. There's really no excusing six months for something like that.

Keep doing it. No matter how many times you say it, it will never become true.

Why oh why do people insist on calling other car games car's "premium" - GT5's premium car's are unrivalled in every way, shape and form.
A premium car in forza is a GT standard car exterior with a basic interior view - Nothing like the premium standard we see in 1080p GT5...

Simpletons....Gotta love em.

It seems you consider your steady anti-posts here as some kind of lifestyle, buddy, don't you? Your continous ranting all over the place about what not...what if...and why not...is more than obvious.
You working for the competition?
Or just another form of post-collecting...

Unless you can count to 132 on your fingers your statement is wrong.

Lol... Just bringing some perspective in the flood of undeserved PD-praising by the fanboy legions.

So 10% of the cars in GT5 is less than 6 years old. Woohoo. I think that says enough about the current car selection.

It doesn't really matter what they do, they're on the back foot. Their reputation has suffered badly. I don't imagine they'll announce anything big - what could they possibly have to announce? They haven't managed to release a single car since release, nor a single track.

As a GT fan I think that this is sadly true.

- Only 200 Premium cars
- 800 copy-pasted-from-GT4/3 cars, with most of them being japanes every day cars or gt-r/nsx/3000gt/miata clones
- Visual damage is so bad, I wish that there were a option to turn it OFF
- spartanic tuning
- zero content
- flawed level/reward system

The online mode is the best thing about this game...

Not by a long way. The physics model is already in place for the game, for a start. Mode to model variation comes in the form of simply inputting different figures into the code.

Modelling doesn't take nearly as long as you state. I model in high fidelity for a number of products. With an accurate set of blueprints/design drawings and a few reference photo's, taken on a morning in a dealership I could knock out a premium car in a month, all completely on my own, sitting at my home PC. I'm talking millimetre accurate.
I doubt that you can model a GT5 car in a month with full premium detail, interior and exterior, texturing and optimizing all the meshes to GT5 standards and all that with all the LODs for car(at least 5 different models).

On most cars before modelling they take thousands of photos and measures, they disassemble real pieces and even put apart big detailed scale models. Is not just searching for the car manufacturer blueprints, a few google photos and the research is done.

And that's only a part of a finished car(parts animations, night textures, physics, adjusting damage, sound programing, etc...)

Also the new car mechanisms needs to be programed inside the physics model, is not only changing numbers.

Forza 4 is so much closer to release than gt6 that people will be more interested in it.

Add to that the fact that PD aren't great at delivering what they promise early on and I dont think people will be that enthusiastic about what PD say about GT6

As a fan of BOTH GT and Forza, it annoys me when people make stupid and ridiculous comments like this. A premium car in Forza 3 is miles ahead of a standard car in GT5, the cars in Forza 3 almost match the detail level of GT5's premium cars and that's the truth. Have you even looked at Forza 3's car models? I heavily doubt it. The fact of the matter is, it's unacceptable that most of GT5's cars are ugly PS2 models that look incredibly out of place in a PS3 game. PD should have outsourced to a reputable modeling company and should have managed at least 400 premium models. Your last sentence should only be directed at fanboys such as yourself who refuse to acknowledge that GT5 is nowhere near as good as it should have been. (physics and premium cars aside)

These threads never end well because of stupid statements like this. People don't seem to be able to have a reasonable, honest, non-biased discussion. Anyone who has an honest, non-biased opinion about the game just ends up being called a 'complainer' by all the fanboys. :grumpy:

False statements....Gotta love 'em.

Forza's cars may not look as good as GT5's, but they are very close to GT Premium cars in terms of details than they are just being a "standard car exterior".

T10 deserve a lot more credit than that, but I wouldn't expect this forum to know anything about that unless it came out of PD's rear.

Wow, this is so untrue, it's comical. To say Forza 3's car models are no better GT5's PS2 models, where some look so pixelated they almost look like they were from GT2, is ridiculous. Have you even played Forza 3?

Apologists....gotta love them.

Get your things together, fanboy-desillusionist. You might have recognized, that this isn't a forum about "how to knit a pullover for mummy", but about GT. You wouldn't believe, but mostly here are people hanging around, who spare each other's enthusiasm (with this games' problems/glitches/bugs as well) and not about knitting a pullover for mummy ;)
Oh my goodness, I've written GT in capital letters, I HAVE to be a fanboy. Your other argument about old cars is just as cheap as it can get, since many of us love those grumpy old cars, which mostly wrote automobile or racing history. But surely you know better.

By the way, that much ranting of yours will let you age faster 👍

I really get sick of having to reiterate that IT TAKES MORE THAN A COUPLE MONTHS FOR DLC. GT5 has been out less than 5 months, and for what we've gotten through updates, OCD, Seasonal Events, Remote Racing, PD is giving alot more alot sooner than any other Developer. The only other Developer i've seen do stuff like that is Criterion Games.

DLC can take 0 days if they have prepared it for release.

But what is to stop them from simply slightly altering the premium Aston Martin DB9, And giving us an Aston Martin DBS "and" an Aston Martin Virage I can't for the life of me see that taking more than a couple of weeks at most

So true...

And taking the premium S2000 and making all the other versions as premiums, applying the small changes that are required wouldn't take much too.

T10 is a great studio that do quality work. I do, however, want to see what they'd do with the PS3 and Blu-ray. They make a good "casual sim" which is one that's pretty realistic, but not TOO realistic. I mean they do have a permanent driving aid. But it's more approachable than GT is for beginners. Which also means GT and FM are two entirely different games, which they are.

But, T10 is a great studio.

But that's not what this thread is about. Back to the topic.

Actually I don't think it would based on the premise that the design schedule was probably set up with the expectation of future DLC. With that, there was likely content withheld from the original that was at, or near, complete when the game came out. This was likely expanded upon in order to construct a DLC package that will be announced soon.

The assumptions here are that PD is not as weak as the game they released last november, and they just have content not yet added to the game. Secondly that some, if not more content was already well underway at the time of the original game release.

Its a business strategy, not a game-maker's strategy. Unfortunately its the business leaders that call the shots, and sometimes that means they damage the overall videogaming experience as a result. But we'll pay more for it and they'll achieve their goal as a result, so this will never change now.

Well said.

Something from GT6? Sorry, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

If PD shows anything, it'll be something for DLC or just some announcements about a significant update. (Personally I doubt they will show anything.)

And a dream announcement would be that PD and Turn 10 teamed up to create the ultimate definitive racing sim. "Gran Turforza" With over 5000 cars and physics that make real life pale in comparison. ;)

and for you guys "or guy" comparing every other car games cars to GT's standards is pretty demeaning if you ask me. Lot's of their cars are actually pretty close to premiums, and they look pretty good for whichever game that they are in.

The sad thing is that if GT6 comes soon, it will be what GT5 should have been. So you might aswell call it GT5.2..

Hate to say it, but Forza4 is gonna curb stomp GT5.. We thought GT5 was gonna bring the series back full force.

Sorry, but I don't know who this "we" is you speak of. ;)

I expected GT, and that's exactly what we got. So I'm pretty happy. :)

I don't think they're going to try. By now, it's pretty much clear on what we think of Gran Turismo 5. Considering that the chances of them announcing GT6 at E3 2011 is incredibly low, there's no point in Polyphony Studio wasting their time only to announce updates and DLC, when they can be doing that at any time. That being said, I wouldn't be surprise if we did receive DLC/a major update around this time, since by then, Japan should have recovered considerably to where they can return to normal function.

Trying to point on flaw's in a person's argument regarding GT5 does not require fanboyism from your part, it requires logics and having opinions that doesn't sound stupid. I love playing GT5 as well, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing when people speak ill of this game.

@MOD: Please delete this post, I did not intent on double posting.

I'm not really a good example for you when it comes down to unlogical argumenting ;) But why should I bring up this games' flaws continuously, when the most inportant things already have been mentioned here or will be posted instantly after recognizing them? If I did that, someone would come around and tell me that "this already has been stated before, look over to that specific thread".
Let's be honest, we all know about the games flaws. But if you had bolded out my words put in brackets, your argument about me being seemingly a fanboy might stand in a different light 👍 Besides, you couldn't imagine how effing angry I get about how internet connectivity AND stability is "solved" by PD.

Least, I don't know how other people's mind works, But if from my opinion a game has more cons than pros, I simply do not play it. No invisible power is forcing me to waste my precious time on such a "game". But exactly this is what "put any user's name here" is indicating when steadily ranting about anything related to a particular game. Others may call those people just simply trolls :) If this is the case, I don't have a problem with feeding 'em.

Finally, I only can suggest anyone losing nerves about a game's flaws, get yourself a clear head and take a break. Enjoy life with all it has to offer. It helps me a lot :)

Sorry for getting a bit off-topic.

I expect GT6: Prologue trailer at E3 ! PD once made GT3 only 1.5 years after GT2 (and it was on next gen console) , so they can make a new game if they really want ...

I hope for some more F1 cars or Porsche cars but it prob won't happen.

I like FM since it's a fun game but to compare its modeling to GT5 is a JOKE...lmao Xbox really needs to support more steering wheels.

I have faith in PD. Would be great if they surprised everyone with something new or just totally unexpected.

I'm afraid we will have to wait and see if Forza 4 is indeed to curb stomp GT5.
But it would be great to have a better (console) simulator than GT5. 👍
