I ask because in an otherwise very realistic game, the map is obviously an "arcade" element of the past. It is good for learning the tracks and preparing for the next corner but I reckon it as unnecessary for more advanced players.

Now I know what you'll say to me about the random tracks of the track generator. But then again isn't this indispensable really for newcomers to the series? From my point of view it would be really fun to listen to my co-driver in the rallies and be bold in anticipation of the unknown.

So will you turn it off immediately or after you know most tracks? What about the random generated tracks. You will leave it as it is though you won't depend on it, maybe? Discuss.

I will likely leave it on at least at first. I will typically take a peek at it now and then when I am on a strange track to get an idea of what may be up ahead. When racing online I will sometimes look to see where the other cars are on the track assuming they are not in my field of view at the time.

The only time I look at the map is to see where the other cars are. Never used it to see what corners are coming up etc.

If you don't want to use the map, don't look at it. I don't think we can disable it anyway. It's nice to have in endurance races so you can see where the rest of the field is (track positioning for all rather than guessing on position with split times). You can also use the map to see when cars are pitting.

i look on the map if im new to the course.

but only on the straight parts to see the next (and possiplby the one after that) corner.

usually though i just follow the "racing line" though its not 100% accurate (the slightly darker parts of the course usually reveals whether the corner is left or right ect)

people can argue that its an arcade addition, and probably is.

but doesnt a REAL racing driver have a little earpiece and ability to talk to his race manager ect anyways? :) (or how does it work)

Ill prob leave it on even though ill never look at it on most tracks, but I'd like it on for "created tracks" and tracks ill be unfamiliar with and i cant be bothered turning it off to have to set it back to on when driving custom tracks

The only time I use the track map is to visually see the gap between cars. You get interval times at the sectors but I am a visual learner and have found that I often times take a quick peek when I want to know how close I am to lapping the competition. :D

I´ll start with it since most tracks are new to me.
Ideally I´ll put it off one day.

I'll take it off, even for the new tracks. I prefer to learn by using the braking line for the first few laps instead.

it is a simulation thing to have a map of the track, however, as many drivers do put a map of the course they're on somewhere on their car's dashboard.

Probably turn it off. The only problem with it being turned off is for custom tracks, so I might turn it on for those.

I'll turn it off completely. I wont need it anyway. I know all the tracks in the game like the back of my hand already except for the new fantasy ones that I've never played. I'll learn those quickly enough.

Use it too see where the other cars are

I'd prefer to use the Sat Nav i've seen in some of the Cars but they don't seem to be working in the Video's , its such a Omission :dunce:

To be honest in most forms of real racing the driver has a small paper map in the cockpit to look at if needed. Especially during long endurance races for breakdowns and such.

I will keep it on for any tracks that weren't in Prologue until I learn them well. I don't think I remember all the ones from GT4 good enough to turn it off. Once I learn them though, I'll turn it off.

SHould have an option in the poll: "Leave it on until I learn the track, then keep it off", as I think most members will do it this way.:)

I disagree about the map being an arcade element. As Jason_B mentioned, quite a few race car drivers will use a track map (usually taped to their steering wheel) with each turn numbered for reference. This helps the driver give feedback to his/her team about what sections of the course are giving the driver/car difficultly (I know that reason doesn't really work for its use in video games, but still it's not uncommon for a map to posted in a race car). Also, most racing series have spotters or race engineers relaying essentially the same information to the driver that a video game map provides.

Depends on if it bothers me, or if it's inconspicuous and easily ignored. After I've been playing a while I'm sure I'll customize the HUD exactly the way I like it, but it's not a priority at the moment.

I will use it while learning a track (as well as the racing line) and will probably turn both of as soon as I actually know the track.

Map turned off, learn the maps the old way and why would anyone want to look at the map to see where the other cars are, use you ears and mirrors people. Plus what ever I don't need in the HUD will be turned off as well if able.
