In the 10 years I've been watching F1, I don't think I've ever heard of engines having a failure that quickly. Maybe things may actually get really interesting this year?

True, but at least it shows that he has the pace. Quite a few new drivers over the years have found F1 a step too far.

And I thought Life Racing Engines were bad...

Is any of the testing broadcasted? It looks like someone shared a pic of their tv, but I'm guessing there isn't ANYTHING from NBC. Are there any streams at least or are Americans out of luck?

3 days into pre-season testing and we don't know who is where? Unpredictable season predicted? Favourite team struggling? Sounds awful... Maybe we should have double test days then - Run at night as well?

New engine sound will be adjusted to, as will the new noses. I'm anticipating 2014 to be one of the best seasons because of the unreliability. Most people will remember watching and not knowing who would win until they were past the flag. Especially if a McLaren was currently leading - it probably just hadn't blown up yet. The teams / engines will get back to same reliability level, but it won't happen after 3 days of running.

Have to kinda agree with him. I do like the v6 turbo sound (more than I liked the v8 sounds), but the 100kg fuel limit and five engines per season go to far imo. It's like they are turning F1 into endurance races. I understand that you have to put some limits on the teams to prevent them from creating 1200 hp cars but I'm sure they could come up with a different solution?

I hope that all the problems get sorted before the start of the season. Hate to see the first race with only a hand full of cars finishing.

I would say it more to do with the engine manufacturer's development focus. Whilst the engines are as reliable and "efficient" (in so far as having enough fuel to last a race distance without concern) as they were, focus shifts to getting more power from them. Decrease fuel limit and they have to work on efficiency. Decrease number of engines, and they have to work on reliability. Remember that a lot of the research for Formula 1 filters down to road cars as well, so they won't be complaining about the R+D change.

Interesting regarding the Renault reliability issues, have no doubt they will fix it, but RedBull losing those testing miles will no doubt be not in their favor.

11:49 Does this mean Kamui has to watch as his Caterham crew eat?

@CaterhamF1: "Lunchtime on day 4 in Jerez. So far we have completed 41 laps with Kamui in the car & we're keeping him strapped in so we can add to that..."

11:49 Mercedes confirms our suspicions:

@MercedesAMGF1: "Time for a well-earned break; would somebody please get @nico_rosberg a plate?!"
11:48 Alonso stays out for the fourth lap of this run, but he's all alone. We suspect other teams may be breaking for unofficial lunch.

I love autosport on testing days.

Also pointed out by BBC was that they missed the first test in 2010 and won both titles... A little different though given how much has changed in 2014!

Meanwhile the Mercedes and the McLaren are racking up the miles, whilst Alonso puts in very consistent runs.

EDIT: Team states they are ending today based on a mechanical issue now, so do they have other worries to mull over?

Actually, it's for cooling, a real quick fixer upper, wow, this is too funny.
Spend a few hundred million just to have to do that.

Love this bit, from reddit:

Stefano walks over from the Ferrari garage, noticing Adrian smashing the Red Bull with a pick axe. "Whatcha diddily doin, neighbour?"

Adrian Newey- "Putting speed holes in my car, makes it go faster!"

Stefano- "Is that so? Well gee maybe the old Ferrari mobile needs some!"

And Magnussen just crashed his car:
