Got tunnel vision and ended up not using more vowels early on, which probably made it harder. I had to take a break from it and it still had me stumped when I came back, so I just started trying combinations of remaining letters until it locked in.

It may look like little, but actually I don't think there were many more option available...

I started with SOARE and instantly knew that there was an "S" in the word and also an "R" (placed correctly). "O", "A" and "E" were excluded.
Now, given that the "S" couldn't be placed at the beginning and also, most likely, not at the end (no plurals in this game no far...), you'll find that this combination doesn't leave you with room for many other options.

In fact - and I may have been just lucky here - after a good 15 minutes into it, USURP was actually the only one I found that would fit.
