Thanks for the cool rating, PS! My thumbs are tremendously overjoyed that their work is paying off. :) Seriously, thanks for the encouragement, as I'm doin this for the whole GTPLANET crew!!! and myself... ;)

... But I think I'm a gallon or two short of fitting into that hat!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A little tidbit on Da Game...

I've found a couple of alternate routes to using 17 cars, but I still haven't found a way to use less than that...

IMPREZA Rally Car prototype vs. RUF 3400S & SKYLINE GT-R Vspec II(R32,J) - I'm using the IMPREZA for the Boxer Series, the 4WD Challenges, and all rally races. The 3400S (and many other "street" cars) can be fitted with Dirt Tires, and can also run in the Boxer Series. The SKYLINE, which is used in the Red Emblem & 80's races, can also be used for the 4WD Challenges. Doing so, however, would mean giving up the Opel Astra Touring Car to get the 3400S, and would likely have me spending more. I didn't think of this route previously because I thought the "New Beetle Cup Racer" (mistakenly listed here as a prize from the Pro/Clio) was something different than the "New Beetle Cup Car" awarded from the Am/German Touring Car... they are the same

Viper GTSR Concept vs Esperante GTR-1 & Speed Six - The Viper is scheduled to run the Normal Car races, FR Challenges, NA races, and the Stars & Stripes races. The Esperante can satisfy requirements for all of the above but the Normal Car races, which can be done with the Speed Six (gotta use it for the Tuscan Challenge anyway). But I think the Esperante is a hunk o' junk, and racing in it is like pulling my own teeth. So I'd much rather use the Viper...

Anyway, have a great drive everyone!

I spent 15 minutes today re-racing (unsaved) the Beginner/GT World Championship. I had always wondered if it awards a prize car for re-racing and winning a series, and found that people said so...

It is confirmed. This means there's room for the post-100% completion "perfect" game, where I'll be going for the rest of the different cars (purchasable or not). I'm really stoked on this, 'cause I really like cars like the GT40 and stuff, and now I know I don't have to "give them up" for good. Fortunately, by then I won't have to run any long-ass enduros for them!!

Anyway, have a great drive, everyone!

For days 74 and 75, I finished the Trial Mountain Endurance and Passage to Colosseo races using the Viper GTSR Concept. The Viper seemed the best normal car candidate of the cars I had scheduled to run, so I gave it an oil change and headed to Trial Mountain. I was able to run 81 laps, and might've been able to squeeze one more out if I didn't employ my "revenge" driving tactics.. I tried twice, unsuccessfully, to crash two opponents into the pit after they took me off of a good run... I couldn't quite demonstrate why they call me "RoadHazzard"... :(

For the Passage to Colosseo, I actually was going to run the F687/S, because I thought I might get it done faster... Then I remembered it's a 2 hour enduro... DUH! I figured using the F687/S would have me running a lot more laps = more mileage = something I don't want. So using the Viper would have me putting less miles on the cars I use. I gave the Viper another oil change and completed 80 laps for this race, never having too much of a problem (GT3 picks a pretty wimpy field for this one, regardless of what car you're in).

MOST NOTABLE OF ALL: I only had to run each race **ONCE** to get the prize cars I wanted.. The S2000 LM Race Car from Trial Mountain, and the F688/S from Passage. Looks like I'm gettin' some Karma Kickback from the 10 times I ran the Stupid Speedway 150!!! HELL YEAH!

I also have to mention that I elected to go for the F688/S from Passage since all other cars are either purchasable or is awarded as a single-car prize. Getting this F688/S leaves the potential for getting one with a different paint job when I complete all Sim Mode races (I got the purple/black #3 Polyphony/BP). I also notice that all of the Zonda Race Cars I've seen are the black #24... So getting a Zonda from this race would likely give me a repeat prize car when I win the Pro/Avant Garde (notice they spell it "Grade" in one place).

Anyway, here are the race results...

Day 74 -
ENDURANCE/Trial Mountain Endurance: 2 Hours @ Trial Mountain Circuit

The Viper started the race with 371.8 mi and 523 hp, and ended this race with 570.1 mi and 488 hp.

So now I've got 3 enduros left.. Mistral, Grand Valley, and the Roadster. Next up will be Mistral with the F687/S, where I'll be going for the Jaguar XJ220 Road Car (assumably, the only place to get it).

1st post so be nice to me mmkay :-)

Hazzard - What you're trying to accomplish is totally amazing. The dedication required to attempt a stunt like that - I am so impressed ! !

Only got my PS2 like a week ago so I'm still just trying to get somewhere in the game (which by the way goes almost as well as Tekken with friends and beer :-)

Once again Hazzard - If (no - WHEN) you complete your mission I'm pretty sure you will be promoted to Demi Godlike status by someone......

Regards

/S - Who just moved his Yaris/Vitz into the Amateur Japanese Championship :-)

Well, a bloke needs a hobby, I always say. And hey, in this big
old world there's always plenty of dung out there to be collected:
after all, I hear the Ducati factory is working longer shifts now.

have fun doing the mistral 10 times to get the jag... :D

this is also my first post.

i've been playing gt3 for about two months now, and i've just managed to get all gold in license b. and all i got for my efforts is a miata! :odd: it was hard getting the cars to turn correctly even with the blue guideline. haha.

i'm gonna try to tackle license a now. kudos to you roadhazzard! just for being able to get all gold licenses, i have much respect (mixed with envy and bewilderment) for you. and like you said, the most important thing is to have fun, and you seem to be doing just that, so it's all good.

Hi there, everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I have another exam for which I must study... I'm still gettin in some good drive time though...

From davidjee:
"i've been playing gt3 for about two months now, and i've just managed to get all gold in license b. and all i got for my efforts is a miata!..."

LOL... I know how ya feel, dj.. But make no mistake.. that little LS kicks some butt, UNMODIFIED! It can win the Roadster Endurance (a normal car race) without any money put into it (try to pit every 6-8 laps), and is also a great "starter" vehicle. Furthermore, all B license golds mean not only a FREE starter car, but also lets you know that, with some work and thumbpain, the other golds are achieveable. Keep at it and you just might surprise yerself!

From cheese_man:
"have fun doing the mistral 10 times to get the jag..."

No kidding! Actually, I raced Formula GT/Race 10 **5** times without saving (saved after the 6th) before I got the car I wanted (the F090/S). For the Endurance/Mistral 78 Laps, I only needed one run to get the Jaguar XJ220 Road Car (Titanium Metallic). I was originally a little upset that I'd be giving up the F686/M for it, but when I got it in my garage, it looked like a REALLY SWEET RIDE! I took it for a couple of test runs (not enough to write it up), and it's actually quite an enjoyable vehicle...

From Flerbizky:
"Only got my PS2 like a week ago so I'm still just trying to get somewhere in the game (which by the way goes almost as well as Tekken with friends and beer :-) "

LOL! Yeah, I can think of a couple of things that go well with this game too... But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! ;) Seriously, if you like this game even half as much as I do, you're gonna LOVE this game! Just one little note that might help you during the rough times (whether playing this game or not)... Nothing feels better than turning frustration into motivation, and having it pay off in the end!!

From 12sec. Civic:
"I just dont understand why anyone would want to get all golds on the licenses?"

Hey there, 12sec! Well, I can only answer this from my own perspective... While I was playing my (now overwritten) 1st gamesave, I always wondered if the game could be completed 100% without purchasing a car. I finally looked online to see all I was missing, and found that I had to purchase at least 2.. Well, I decided I wanted to get all the prize cars available, and getting all license golds was a part of that. I figured that if I'm gonna go far with this game, I may as well go all the way...

Speaking of which, I'm both stoked AND VERY impressed that you've been working on yer own "perfect" game, getting *ALL* the prize cars available. It's cool to know there are others with comparable levels of "insanity"!! :) I've been reading yer posts, and am eager to hear when you finally conquer this beast! BTW, how's the Formula GT goin??

------------------------------------

About the game...

Well, since 9/27/02, I've knocked out Mistral 78 and the Grand Valley 300...

After the 2 hour endurances, I hopped back into the F687/S, gave it an oil change, and entered the Mistral 78 Laps endurance race. Keep in mind that outclassing my opponents is not a concern for many of my runs. Anyway, after 2 hours, I said to myself "Prepare to race again, whether you get that stupid car or not", and I got the car I wanted (the Jaguar XJ220 Road Car). LOL. I should do that more often. The only thing noteworthy is that the Toyota GT-ONE Race Car beat out the Nismo R390 GT1 LM Race Car, something I wouldn'tve expected.

Endurance/Mistral 78 Laps: 78 Laps @ Cote d'Azur
[Finishing Position] (Starting Position) Vehicle = total race time
[1] (6) F687/S = 1.46.44.287 (2nd best of 7 runs, including Formula GT #10) [best lap 1.16.740 (2nd best of 546 laps)]
[2] (2) GT-ONE Race Car(TSO20) = 1.47.15.040 + 13 laps
[3] (4) R390 GT1 LM Race Car = 1.47.33.236 + 13 laps
[4] (3) ALTEZZA LM Race Car = 1.47.23.187 + 16 laps
[5] (1) Esperante GTR-1 = 1.48.01.835 + 16 laps
[6] (5) XJ220 Race Car = 1.47.01.578 + 17 laps
I pitted after laps 8 15 22 29 36 43 50 57 64 71.
The F687/S started with 1908.4 mi and 914 hp, and ended with 2071.1 mi and 887 hp. I'm still using the default settings.

(*another side note) I finally broke "into" Cote d'Azur with both the F687/S and the ESCUDO, but still can't find a place to break "out".

So after Sim Mode Day 76, I had just won 3 LONG endurance races, and only needed to run each once to get the car I wanted. "I'm on a roll!" I thought...

6 times. LOL! That's how many times it took for me to get the R390 GT1 Road Car from the Grand Valley 300. It gave me the Spoon once, the F090/S once, and 3 IMPREZAs before it finally gave me the blue R390 (is there any other color? I've only seen the dark blue). It might seem boring doing races like this multiple times with an F1, but I enjoy the MANY MANY opportunities I get to improve my best lap times... This race was reduced to a game of "try to lap the LOCTITE 13 times", which I couldn't always do.

Saved results came in as:
Endurance/Grand Valley: 60 Laps @ Grand Valley Speedway
[Finishing Position] (Starting Position) Vehicle = total race time
[1] (6) F687/S = 1.33.26.533 (5th of 6 attempts +17.253) [best lap 1.25.923 (6th of 6 attempts +.647)]
[2] (2) ARTA NSX = 1.33.29.439 + 12 Laps
[3] (5) RAYBRIG NSX = 1.33.48.845 + 12 Laps
[4] (3) DENSO SARD SUPRA GT = 1.34.03.975 + 12 Laps
[5] (4) LOCTITE ZEXEL GT-R = 1.35.23.555 + 12 Laps
[6] (1) PENNZOIL NISMO GT-R = 1.33.29.330 + 13 Laps
I pitted after laps 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55.
The F687/S started with 2071.1 mi and 914 hp, and ended with 2255.9 mi and 872 hp.

So now I've got only the Roadster Endurance left (for the enduros), and I've already failed twice to get the MX-5 Miata VR Limited A. This car had better be there! I already gave up the F688/S! :(

I am done with the enduros!!! I won't be racing one again until AFTER I get 100% (to get the other cars), but for now I'M FREAKING DONE!!

PHEW! I just finished the Roadster Endurance for the 7th time, and I finally got the F688/S (white/lavender #5). I actually got this car after my 2nd win, but I was going for the "Mazda VR Limited A", mistakenly listed here. The "Mazda VR Limited A" most likely refers to the Mazda MX-5 Miata(J), in 2 unique color schemes (unavailable for purchase from the dealer): VR Limited A and VR Limited B...

So I changed my plans to go for the F688/S instead, as this car is unpurchasable. I just had to make sure I didn't get the same color/number.

Anyway, there is one small thing I'm appreciative of regarding this error.. I finally broke 1.41.000 on my 4th attempt, something I couldn't do on my previous stab at "perfect". As hard as I tried, I still couldn't break 1'10"00.000. Perhaps if I qualified, I would've had a better chance as the start would have me clear of traffic and ahead of the pack... but ~30 seconds is a lot of time to cover in the LS.

Here are the race's results...
Endurance/Roadster Endurance: 40 Laps @ Apricot Hill Raceway
[Finishing Position] (Starting Position) Vehicle = total race time
[1] (6) Mazda MX-5 Miata LS blue = 1.10.32.659 (1.40.973)
[2] (1) Mazda MX-5 Miata LS black = 1.11.42.964 + 1 lap
[3] (3) Mazda MX-5 Miata 1.8 RS(J) = 1.12.04.758 + 1 lap
[4] (5) Mazda MX-5 Miata(J) white = 1.12.07.006 + 1 lap
[5] (2) Mazda MX-5 Miata(J) blue = 1.12.12.012 + 1 lap
[6] (4) Mazda MX-5 Miata(J) white = 1.11.01.598 + 2 laps
I pitted after laps 9 (oops) 16 24 32.
The Miata LS started with 0.0 mi and 160 hp, and ended with 95.4 mi and 160 hp.

This attempt ranks 4th of 7 for total race time (best 1.10.24.767), and 3rd of 7 for best lap (best 1.40.645). I used the Mazda MX-5 Miata LS as-given (no oil, no tires) from all B license golds.

I was hoping that it wouldn't give me another #3 F688/S (the one I got from Passage to Colosseo). I would've smashed something expensive if I did... Instead, it gave me a different paint/number combo, as well as the orange/black F094/H for getting endurance golds.

Anyway, It's all butter from here! None of the remaining series have final races as long as the enduros, so getting the desired prize vehicles will be easier on my thumbs (still might take a lot of attempts, though). I just hope there are no more unpleasant surprises in the "official" US/NTSC prize list.

Well, it's day 79, and I'll likely be doing the Professional/Polyphony Digital Cup in the Viper GTSR Concept next. With the enduros out of the way, maybe I can get some of my life back... LOL NOT! ;)

F687/S - 7 attempts @ Endurance/Seattle 100 miles
F090/S - 6 attempts @ Professional/Formula GT: Race 10 (78 Laps @ Cote d'Azur)
ALTEZZA LM Race Car - 2 attempts @ Endurance/Laguna Seca 200 Endurance

ARTA NSX JGTC(J) - 3 attempts @ Endurance/Special Stage Route 11
R390 Road Car - 6 attempts @ Endurance/Grand Valley 300
F688/S - 7 attempts @ Endurance/Roadster Endurance (got the car after my 2nd attempt, but was going for something else at the time)

Well, the series races won't be as bad if/when I don't get the car I want, so things are likely to be easier from here. I've still got to race all the arcade mode races, but the Time Trials are done.

Thanks for the encouragement, cheese_man! Have a great drive everyone!

So after finally getting the F688/S from the Roadster Endurance, I hopped back into the Viper GTSR Concept, gave it an oil change, and headed for the Professional/Polyphony Digital Cup. As I mentioned before, I believe this series can be won with a normal Tuscan Speed 6, perhaps with Sports Tires. But I wasn't looking for a close race, and I wanted to finish this series asap. Without much incident, I swept the series and was awarded 900000 Cr and the GT-ONE Race Car(TS020). I had to re-race #10 (20 laps @ Tokyo R246) 7 times to get the GT-ONE. The Viper started with 570.1 mi and 512 hp, and ended with 1080.6 mi and 488 hp.

For day 80, I got back in the VITZ 1.5 RS(J) and headed for the Professional/VITZ Race. Being nearly fully modded (see post #116), I didn't feel the need to change the oil (oil light went on during race 4, lap 3). This series was not too big of a problem, and I was awarded 67500 Cr and the Castrol Tom's SUPRA JGTC(J). The VITZ started with 67.4 mi and 280 hp, and ended with 209.3 mi and 280 hp.

Days 81 and 82 were spent at the Professional/Italian Avant Garde races. I used the Zonda C12S I won from the Pro/NA races, gave it an NA Tune-up/Stage 1, Transmission/Sports, and Sports Tires. The first race wasn't too big of a deal, as the field pitted after lap 9. The second race (Rome II) was tougher, as I won by a little over 3 seconds. Being out-powered by around 45 hp, I felt it necessary to employ a few crash-turns and wall-rides here and there. I would've lost otherwise. The C12S started the races with 0.0 mi and 603 hp, and ended with 50.5 mi and 603 hp. I was awarded 60000 cr and the Zonda Race Car.

For day 83, I chose to purchase my first vehicle (required for 100%), the Tuscan Speed 6 in Silver Stardust Metallic (really more like a dark gray). I did some pretty extensive test runs for this and my previous attempt at "perfect", and found that the series can be swept with just Sports Tires and an oil change. This would, however, require the final race to be won by drafting. In fact, the 10 Laps @ Test Course was one of the most hair-raising, heart-pounding, tight-as-a-drum races I've had to finish. It took me ***13*** attempts at the last race (actually losing 3 times on the last lap) to finally win the Speed 12 (Chameleon Blue). My margin of victory for the saved run was 0.067 seconds. The Speed 6 started the series with 0.0 mi and 368 hp, and ended with 162.7 mi and 367 hp. I was awarded 295000 Cr in addition to the Speed 12.

For day 84, I got back in the F687/S and headed for the Professional/Like the Wind race. I reloaded and reloaded, but I couldn't get a draw with the R390. The best it would give me, after around 6 attempts, was the GT-ONE and 787B. Since the GT-ONE runs at around 235 mph, and the F687/S runs in the 220's, I knew I'd need to draft my way to victory. This was another tight-ass race, as I beat out the GT-ONE by 0.046 seconds. I got a whopping 10000 Cr and the 787B for my efforts. The F687/S started this race with 2255.9 mi and 914 hp, and ended with 2388.5 mi and 908 hp

For day 85, I used the F687/S for the Professional/GT All-Stars. Again, the toughest race of these was the 15 Laps @ Test Course, where I needed to draft my way to the win. I re-raced #10 4 times to get the R390 GT1 LM Race Car. I was also awarded 900000 Cr for the series. The F687/S started this series with 2388.5 mi and 914 hp, and ended with 2829.0 mi and 870 hp.

So now I'm on day 86, and I'm in the middle of the Professional/All Japan GT Championship. The first 3 races are done, and I hope to finish out and get the MR-S Autobacs Apex tonight...

Anyway, here are my day 86 #'s (before entering the Pro/All JGTC)...

Holy hell, Hazzard!

You must be crazy! You must have a boat load of patience! If i had to re-run a certian race 13 times over, i would have smashed a window already. Your one crazy, but cool, mofo, Hazard. ;)

Keep up the good work and good luck, man!

Road Hazzard: Is there a chance you have soem very detailed info on the PD cup? Info I was looking for would be lap times of the other cars, and win margins.

Teh reason I'm looking for this stuff is I'm running this in the next few weeks and hoping to accomplish it in a Lancer Evo VI GSR.

Thanks,
AO

LOL. Thanks, guys! I really appreciate all the good stuff you pass along (Der Alta... Check your PM). It's great to know others are excited about this hell of a journey I've been working on...

Speaking of which, I'm now more than halfway home!! I spent the last few days wrapping up the Arcade Mode Single Races (Easy, Normal, and Hard) with the ARTA NSX and Focus Rally Car. My completion % went from 36.2 to 55.7! In addition to 102 trophies, it also gave me the Corvette C5R. I forgot how cool this car looked...

Anyway, I finished all the Professional League races that have multi-car prizes (not counting the Elise Trophy) over the weekend as well, so getting the desired prize cars from series races shouldn't be much of a problem anymore. I think the toughest tasks ahead are finding the minimal upgrades/tunings for a few of the cars I have yet to use... and the Pro/Turbo @ Test Course vs. the RUF CTR2...

Just curious... anyone wanna guess as to what race I'm gonna run last, and why?

I just scheduled the last of my license exams (my REAL job, not for GT3), and I really gotta hunker down and knock this one out. I don't know how much playtime I'll get to fit in, but I'm sure I'll be taking a break here and there...

I'm happy to say that I passed what will hopefully be the last of certification exams for my "Real-Life" job... despite the few hours I snuck in to play some GT3. Unfortunately, I still have no idea what this allows me to do nor prohibits me from doing. LOL just kiddin...

Anyway, enough of that.. back to the game!

I'm trying to wrap up the Pro League races, and I've got about 6 groups of races left (none of which are Series/Championship races). The # of cars I'm using is starting to grow, as I'm getting into the restricted-entry races...

For days 89, 90, and 91, I used the F687/S + oil change for the Professional/Race of Turbo Sports races. I knew from my previous games that the CTR2 was the toughest of the draw for the race @ Test Course, and I also knew I'd need to draft it for the majority of the run. But the AI picked a 2-pit schedule for the CTR2, and this one was won somewhat easily.. the other races were won handily. I was awarded 90000 cr and a yellowish RUF CTR2. The F687/S started with 3970.9 mi and 914 hp, and ended with 4093.9 mi and 914 hp.

For days 92, 93, and 94, I used the F687/S for the Professiona/British GT Car Cup races. While I know a lot of people might consider this boring, but I never get bored pushing the limits in the F687/S... Anyway, I was awarded 60000 cr and a Sotherland Red Vanquish. The F687/S started with 4093.9 mi and 914 hp, and ended with 4166.4 mi and 870 hp. The oil light went on during lap 7 of the 3rd race.

The next 2 sim mode days took me about a week's worth of testing and research before I finally started saving my results. This is the part of the game I really love, and I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO THANK DerAlta and the many others who contribute to the wealth of information on these boards.

Anyway, day 95 was the Amateur/Tourist Trophy. I wanted to use as few mods as possible, getting the most for my money. I managed to sweep this series with a 289 hp, 1297 kg TT, having only spent 34750 cr. Here are the purchases and settings..

TT 1.8T quattro + OIL CHANGE (-250) [0.0 mi, 221-232 hp]
TT 1.8T quattro + Muffler & Air Cleaner/Sports (-1600) [0.0 mi, 232-241 hp]
TT 1.8T quattro + Turbo Kit/Stage 2 (-13500) [0.0 mi, 241-278 hp]
TT 1.8T quattro + Intercooler/Sports (-1800) [0.0 mi, 278-289 hp]
TT 1.8T quattro + Sports Tires (-6000)
TT 1.8T quattro + Lightweight/Stage 1 (-1200) [1395-1297 kg ]
TT 1.8T quattro + Variable Center Differential (-10400)
ASM = Level 3
TCS = Level 1
VCD = 20% Front

But the key to all of this was the VCD, which is something I always overlook. By DA's (indirect) suggestion, I tried it on and found a remarkable difference in the pick-up and handling. Using the VCD saved me not only money, but many hours I would've spent trying to muscle my way to victory. The competition seemed to run very rough lines, and proper use of the VCD allowed for me to out-finesse them all around the tracks. Here are the race results for each of the series races [# = starting position, Vehicle (color), total race time (best lap)]:

AMATEUR/Tourist Trophy: 3 Laps @ Seattle Circuit

I was awarded 90000 cr (10000 for each race, 40000 for the series), and a Mocha Brown Pearl Effect TT 1.8T quattro. With the color of this car, one could say it's a piece of ****. ;)

For day 96, I hopped in the Elise 190 and headed for the Professional/Elise Trophy. The toughest of these races (during testing) were Apricot Hill and Deep Forest. I managed to win by pit strategy (barely) at Apricot Hill, and had to tie together some hair-raising tight laps at Deep Forest to hold the lead (took me 2 attempts to win DFR). Again, I didn't want to spend too much upgrading the 190. With thanks to DA and others, I was able to sweep the series (containing 3 Motor Sport Elises) spending 41200 cr on my 264 hp 190...

Elise 190 + Suspension/Sports (-3200)
Elise 190 + Sports Brakes (-4700)
Elise 190 + Muffler & Air Cleaner / Racing (-4800) [187-206 hp]
Elise 190 + Racing Chip (-1500) [206-214hp]
Elise 190 + Clutch/Triple Plate (-4700)
Elise 190 + Flywheel/Racing (-1650)
Elise 190 + Transmission/Sports (-5700)
Elise 190 + Turbo Kit/Stage 1 (-4800) [214-252hp]
Elise 190 + Racing Tires/Super Slick(-10500)
Elise 190 + OIL CHANGE (-250) [252-264hp]

Other than simply installing the upgrades, I kept the settings untouched. I was awarded 135000 cr (15000 for each race, 60000 for the series) and the Nostalgic Red Metallic Elise 190 for the wins. The Elise 190 started with 0.0 mi and 187 hp, and ended with 118.6 mi and 264 hp.

So, here I am on day 97, and I think I can sweep the Pro/Spider & Roadster with this same Elise 190... I'm testing it now...

By perfect and not repeating anything, I'm assuming you got golds on all of your S-license tests on your first run, or loaded every time you failed?

RoadHazzard,
You said, a few posts back that you were running the arcade races on each difficulty level. Why?
You can save a boat load of time by just running the Hard difficulty level. You will "get the dot" for the other two automatically doing it this way.
Also, for your "helpful mods" list. I have found that the racing transmission has won me more than a few races. In cars like the Viper being able to run the final drive ratio up to 4.440 from 3.0xx is a great help in picking up some acceleration. Plus in your testing phases you can find out what to set your "Sports-Wide" slider to to make the most/best use of sixth gear.

I too am after all the unpurchasable cars. The Perfect game though...You are way out of my league.
Happy trails.

Oh, and PS. By fewest miles, you don't qualify for anything? Ouch, that's got to be hard!

Hey, rjensen11! For this current gamesave, I would either get the particular license gold in one sitting, or reload it if I didn't. This run took me about 900 minutes of play time over 6 days to get all license golds, where my first attempt at "perfect" took about 3 weeks.

Regarding the miles, qualifying doesn't add any miles to the vehicle, nor to the Game Status Total Mileage. Check here for more details. Mostly, this affects my record keeping, as I wouldn't be writing down total run times for opponents I blow away (like the F687/S in the Beginner/GT World Championship). It saves miles to exit the race immediately after crossing the finish line.

There were a couple of races for which I felt I REALLY needed to qualify: the Beginner/FF Challenge @ Rome Circuit & Deep Forest Raceway with a 106 hp MIRA; and the Pro/Avant Garde @ Rome Circuit II with a 603 hp Zonda C12S. I felt as though I lost too much on the launch otherwise. Other than that, the rest have had me go from worst to first (granted, many of my races are mismatches).

Hi Gil.. I already knew about the dot filling all 3 levels, but I didn't realize it also gave the "proper" percentage completion (around .5-.6%) when completing only the hard race. I read before that the "unlocked" cars don't show up unless all of the races are run, so I figured I needed to be on the safe side of things. This could've saved me about 5 hours playing time (2 days)... ah well. Nobody's perfect. ;) [edit: Winning only the Hard level races won't give credit for the 2 other trophies that would otherwise have been won. I guess 102 trophies from the Arcade Mode would have a little more oomph than 34, but I'm not too worried about it either way...]

But regarding the tranny, I've only needed to buy 3 transmissions for upgrades: Sports Transmissions for the Zonda C12S and Elise 190; and a Full-Racing Transmission for the VITZ. I don't plan on buying any others. I noticed that Sport Trannys have the same gear ratios as the defaults for Full-Racing Transmissions, and I felt like I only needed a little extra push for the Zonda C12S and Elise 190. The VITZ... well, I needed the Full Racing Tranny 'cause the AI CHEAT!!! lol.

After I complete 100% and get all the prize cars, I'm gonna try to finally put that Viper GTSR Concept in 6th gear!!! :)

Anyway, back to the game...

I've completed the Professional/Spider & Roadster races with the same Elise 190 I used for the Elise Trophy. I was originally planning on using the SLK 230 Kompressor as I did for my previous attempt, but after the Elise Trophy I felt like I got better enough with the 190 to give it a go. So after some testing, I swept the series and was awarded 30000 cr with a Red Cobra. The Elise 190 started with 118.6 mi and 264 hp, and ended with 207.0 mi and 252 hp.

So, having not used the SLK 230 Kompressor, that means I can choose to buy the CLK55 instead (for the Silver Arrow races). With the tests I've done so far, I think I can sweep both series with a CLK55 + Sport Muffler, Lightweight Stage 1, and oil change
(96360 spent), instead of a moderately modified SLK (spending anywhere from 120000 to 135000). If I can spend less, and use the CLK55, I'm gonna do that instead of my original plans to use the SLK 230 Kompressor. Doing so will reduce the number of repeat cars I have. I have some more testing and research to do...

Anyway, it's day 100 and here are the #'s...

For Spider, get a Ruf 3400S and do only NA mods to avoid tire shredding torque which isn't good for longer races with tire damage. Use medium tires and basically mod up the drivetrain/chassis as much as you need to.

For Elise, you might as well do it right the first time, because you dont want them passing you on the last few seconds of lap 9 (happened to me). Get the Motorsport Elise, and basically fully modify it with full spec turbo's. And the only way you are going to win is by using super slicks and winning by not pitting as much.

PS The Ruf 3400S with full NA mods should have around 440hp
The Elise with all Turbo mods should have 350hp.

Hey, Mith! 12sec's advice above is pretty solid... But if you were thinking of using the Elise 190 like I did (which I think is what you asked)...

(USA/NTSC version)
To start, I used the Champagne Gold Elise 190 that was awarded for the series win at the Amateur/European Championship. One of my goals for this "perfect" gamesave was to spend as little as possible for upgrades (including oil changes and car washes), so I did a lot of testing before I actually started saving my results. Here's what I came up with after a while...

I found that the Elise Trophy could be won with the following upgrades, possibly skipping/downgrading something in here...

Elise 190 + Suspension/Sports (-3200)
Elise 190 + Sports Brakes (-4700)
Elise 190 + Muffler & Air Cleaner / Racing (-4800) [187-206 hp]
Elise 190 + Racing Chip (-1500) [206-214hp]
Elise 190 + Clutch/Triple Plate (-4700)
Elise 190 + Flywheel/Racing (-1650)
Elise 190 + Transmission/Sports (-5700)
Elise 190 + Turbo Kit/Stage 1 (-4800) [214-252hp]

(-41200 spent)

For the Elise Trophy, the races that offer the most difficulty are the 10 Laps @ Apricot Hill Raceway & Deep Forest Raceway. AHR has the AI running VERY good lines, with one pit stop. Even with my super slicks, I barely managed to scrape out a 3 second win. Not having a Full-Racing Transmission, I found myself using L2 quite a bit when driving this car.

For Deep Forest, the opponents do not pit. This is also one of the few races where the AI take good lines, leaving few opportunities to gain time on them. Slicks won't help much here, but if you get in a crunch you can always go lawn-mowing for the final turn into the home stretch. After enough test runs, I ended up getting similar speeds through and out of that last turn, whether I was "cheating" or not (around 120). In fact, sometimes lawnmowing the last turn at DFR kicks the back end out too much, bogging the rpms back down and setting the spedomoter back to around 105-110 (dependent upon the ASM/TCS settings)...

But there's one upgrade you won't be able to sharkport or buy at the Tune Shop... Practice. The Elise is a VERY VERY light car, and with as much power that can be put into it, having "WRONG WAY" show up is a common occurrence while driving it... especially coming onto/off of the rumble strip.

There's enough oversteer in this car so that you can finish your turn earlier than "normal". Once you get into the groove of this car, you'll find yourself turning without steering (even counter-steering), allowing it to use its power to push it forward (instead of sideways).

My suggestions on testing (any car) is to buy, but not install all of the upgrades, except for the following: Port Polish; Full-Engine Balancing; Displacement HP; Lightweight Stage 1,2,3; and an Oil Change. My reason for these exclusions are that they can't be easily "undone" while testing, and rarely have I found either of them necessary (other than Ltwt 1 and an Oil Change).

I take this car, and just start driving. If I know or feel like the draw is going to be tough, I install a few power upgrades off the bat. I just keep racing the qualifying laps until I can pole, adding an upgrade here and there to shave off time. During qualifying I also try to note any pitting patterns for the other cars in the race, as well as tire wear for the laps I drive.

And when I finally get the pole, I jump to the next track without making changes to the car (keep the miles on it), and do the same thing. Once I find a car that can pole all the races, I write down the upgrades/settings (don't forget to save the defaults!), and reload the game. After reloading, I take the fresh car, give it the upgrades, and take it for individual runs in each race. I go far enough until I know I can either win it, or I can't. Sometimes this means racing the whole thing, sometimes multiple times, but often it doesn't. And after all of this I end up with a car I can sweep a series with. I reload one more time, and make a go at it.. I haven't had to quit mid-series yet.

For the Professional/Spider & Roadster, I was originally planning on using the SLK 230 Kompressor. But I was surprised with the 190's performance and took it for some test runs. If you were planning on using the Elise 190 for both series (or the Motor Sport Elise), doing the Elise Trophy first will give you plenty of practice with it to take out the Griffith 500 for the S&R.

While the Griffith 500 is a monster for this series, it pits every 5 laps. If you keep your runs tight, and you're careful with the back end of the Elise (spinout = reload (pretty much)), that G500 is gonna be in your rear-view mirror.

The good thing is that after the Elise Trophy, you'll be able to add an upgrade or two for the S&R. The bad thing is it's still an Elise. LOL :) But I actually found that if you can beat the Elise Trophy, you can beat the Pro/S&R. I didn't feel an oil change was necessary between them...
