Does one contact in iRacing net you a negative overall rating for the race if you do everything else clean?IRacing does not apportion blame either - if someone rams you you both get penalised.

I cannot believe the dirty driving that goes on in “Sport” racing! I have a B rating and cannot get 1 race in bc everyone is SO DIRTY! This is not Grand Theft Auto!! Why do I get penalized when someone runs into me?!! Polyphony Digital should really look into a system like iRacing! I am NEVER going to race GT Sport again!
S races may be clean , but the competition is tough. The difference between the pole and last place is almost everytime less than two seconds.I have nothing but clean races at SR/S. But I also only race the longer races. Tried the 3-4 lap races a couple times, and people are in way too big of a hurry to push everyone out of the way. So I just avoid the shorter races.
Yesterdays oval races were really a pain the ass.. Got me thinking maybe I should just go full dirty myself since I'm getting penalized for others actions and races ruined by rammers..

Feels pretty serious when racing DR-S, DR-A racers all with SR-S at Suzuka, clean but immensely fast, the slightest mistake and boom, 2 places gone with a 3rd overtake looming. I managed to overtake 6 people (11th to 5th) in the Suzuka Gr3 daily at that level and finish without contact with anyone, which happened often, usually any contact was minor as-well, never once punted off all day ( I had a very GTS based new years dayYou have to realise that GT-S is a console racer for the masses, its not something serious or something realistic.

Where is this game that gets all the algorithms right that everyone keeps holding GT Sport up to as a bad example?
And what is it that it does so much better than GT Sport?
Does it exist or are people just creating a false utopia in their heads and deciding that's where the barometer is and to hell with what is actually acheivable with gaming technology today?

Thats why i don't play sports mode, only open lobbys. I feel in the open lobbys there is more respect and more serious peoples.I cannot believe the dirty driving that goes on in “Sport” racing! I used to say just this, however in the recent new year Suzuka Gr.3 daily (the day I decided to make a come back to Sport mode) I had a great time.Thats why i don't play sports mode, only open lobbys. I feel in the open lobbys there is more respect and more serious peoples.

Sorry for offending some of you with my opinion.. I forgot it’s 2017 and the millennials know how to ‘feel’ now. #triggered
Generally not. In iRacing your safety rating is based on incidents per corners driven. Essentially it largely boils down to incidents per race, and while there are different incident penalties for offtrack/light contact/heavy contact/etc., you generally have to have a couple of major incidents before it's impossible to at least break even.
See, that makes sense. My last A race had a single contact where I was pushed out from the inside of a turn for an overtake, ran the entire race clean and lost overall SR. That’s not right. That just means that I have no reason to race the short races until my SR is high enough, though even then, can you really count on 0 contact at all?
It’s more annoying because the 10 lap races take me a good hour-hour and a half to get all set up, put time on the track with the car and race. I usually don’t have that kind of time until I’m too tired to race. The short races are a lot less mentally taxing.
The first step and the key to racing clean is to realise the world isn't going to end if you don't win, and if anything, races can be more fun when you don't.
So GT sport is not where you want to race, yes it is fun but the kids are ruining it.
You should also know that iRacing doesn't really have short races. The shortest you'll find are 15-20 minutes usually, and higher classes can easily be 45.
If iRacing did have short races, the penalty system works in such a way that it might well be impossible to get a positive overall result after a single incident. There's just not enough time to build up clean racing. I mean, a three lap race is what, somewhere between 4 and 8 minutes depending on the track? If you think about it, one major incident every four minutes isn't a particularly safe driver. I suspect that GTS is accurately reflecting this.
It's just unfortunate that short races are kind of a double whammy, it doesn't allow you time to build up clean racing and it actively incentivises people to drive very aggressively knowing that there's not much time to make up places. In a 20 minute race you can take your time to work through the field and allow other people to make mistakes. In a three lap sprint you have to make the pass happen right now instead of waiting for the right opportunity.
Ideally the system should be one where you drive how you drive, regardless of the length. If there is a big disparity between how you drive short vs long, something up. Especially if you’re faster and safer on a long race (according to their metrics).
