Would greasing gears on DFGT make it quieter?

I imagine that it would, but you'd probably want to use something that is safe for plastic/nylon, as normal petroleum based grease will eat the gears.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, no. greasing the gears will not make it quieter. It has nothing to do with the lubricante. Noise is determined by how big the spacing are in between th gears. The bigger the gap and teeth the louder the noise will be

I disagree. The grease will take up some of the lash between the teeth. Example: Ever heard an old engine tapping? Ever added a heavier oil to that engine and heard the tapping get quieter? Same thing. A heavy grease will act as a buffer between the gear teeth.

Yeah, but an engine has a resivour Which constantly lubricates the engine. You can put as much grease on dfgt. Once you turn the wheel a couple of times it will seep out of the teeths. Which will put the wheels noise to where it originally was.

There's nothing you can do about the dfgt noise. Unless you muzzle the sound somehow. G27 makes no noise because it has fine helical gears. The dfgt has straight cut gears that are big. This is what causes the noise. Lub only lessens the friction between motor and wheel.

So for the hell of it, I just put some super sticky grease (it came with my poly bushing set for my MR2) all over the gears of my DFGT... the limiter gear, the force feedback motor gear, and the directional gear.

Very much improved! the gear clacking/lash is much quieter now, but i do hear the faint noise of the sticky grease.

for those who argue that the grease will collect dust... i agree, it will collect dust. on the other hand, this is the same grease that i applied to my full poly bushing set 6+ years ago, and it's still gooey as ever in those bushes....
