There seems to be some interest in racing a team event in the WRS, as it has been suggested recently, so I'd like to know a bit more accurately what the general feeling is about this.

nope, i don't like the idea

how are we going to even up the teams to start with?
could get very lopsided otherwise

and it forces people to commit to the race when maybe they wouldn't otherwise (eg racers who don't race every week)

I like it,
for one week race though.

teams in your own div. can work the best ,I think.

I vaguely remember doing one about a year ago?
EDIT: Just checked - it was weeks 11/12

Actually, I don't think it went too well because not everyone turned up and some drivers got annoyed about that etc etc.

No reason not to give it another go of course if the participating members can give a (reasonably) clear commitment. 👍

we ran alot of team challenges in GT2 on my old board years ago.
they were alot of fun, and offered some nice depth.

things that work and didn't work:
seeded teams work better than picked ones. (helps avoid blow-outs, + the ringers can generally offer up enough advice to elevate the times of a slower driver)
complementary car/track choices help (kinda like wk 69, only say one person goes one way, the other person goes the other way)
it boils down to participation though. everyone has to submit something or all the fun falls apart.
suppose you could build in a "dead spot" in the scoring... say like on a 3 man team the top two submissions are scored.

I tend to like longer streches (4 or 5 races) for team comps, but i suppose it could be fun here.

I'm in. Totally... I finally won't suck that much - by harnessing the awsome power of averaging, I'll drag down someone else with me... Ha-ha!

^ ^ Gingiba.

I'd like to give it a go.

Someone mentioned in the pit-stop thread that we should confirm the week before wether or not we're willing to participate, maybe ad it to our submission PM, then, in thoery, only Cyril knows the teams before the results are out?

Hopefully that should save anyone dropping out and letting team mates down fot the second week of the combo? 👍

Did that make any sense to anyone?

I'm in Cyril. :D

I'd like to have it either be totally random for that week or have a prequel qualifying by division setup. I.E. Week 71 Car x at Track x, lets say I get last in my division (which will undoubtedly happen I'm sure) then lets say Curtis gets first place; we're a team (Yay 4 me! hehe) then 2nd place with 2nd to last place. But I agree that there needs to be some assurance as to the competitors willing to do 100% for both weeks. But I'm sure we can arrange something fun and put a lil' spin on our fav pastime. I'm in :)

The WRS is already fun but a bit of variety here and there is always welcomed. I think the format of the race needs to be such that people can still just rock up and race without a partner if they want. That partner race last year on Suzuka was actually my first ever race so I didn't have a partner but I wasn't hindered. It's a good idea 👍

Is Jimmy Stewart looking for a partner? Because you'd be the man.

I like someones idea of random teams. Makes it more interesting. Have the normal race with individual rankings, and the team times as well. So you don't get a team of Dan and Curtis. Get some seedings done, maybe the first 10 or whatever, and then use a random number generator to get the teams done.

Fastest paired with slowest has been done so many times before. Although the other idea I had was a 3 man team. 1 Division 1, 1 Division 2, 1 Division 3. Althought I doubt the numbers would work so perfectly to achieve that.

i think a 3 man team would be the best.... much more interesting, so instead of having 3 different divisions, you would just have an overall team winner. But that said, numbers may proove to be a problem, maybe a first come first serve, or a qualifying week might solve that issue?

what ever the answer i think more races like this need to come into the WRS every once and a while, just liven things up a tad.

If we could get the right numbers that'd be a great idea.

Nice one Brad.....no wonder you're higher than God? :D

There's a pretty much overwhelming majority who voted for the team event , so I started to do some testing today.
I think it's gonna happen as follows :
  • A short additional race will be posted on September 1st ;
Short because we'll only have 2 or 3 days to submit a time,
Additional because it will not affect week 71, which will still be run from August 29th to September 5th.
  • Submitting a time for this short race will be the entry ticket to the team event ;
  • Teams will be made after this short race is over (So far I haven't figured out how exactly, so keep on posting suggestions.)
  • The following week (72) will be raced as a team event. It's pretty much ready but I'm not gonna say anything about it before it's posted :mischievous:.
  • Racers who don't want to enter a team will still be able to race week 72 as individuals.
  • I still don't know how it will affect the leaderboard.

commenting from a lyon hotel here.
i say teams in wrs go go go.
it's the only fun thing missing in wrs to me.
my suggestion would be to have all team races held in gt mode so settings could be exchanged in teams.
cyril, count me in for 71 AND the team thingy tho i wont be back till 2/9.

When thinking about it... Shouldn't we know before what track the actual team-race will be? I mean, what if one member hates that track/car?

And how about a team-race with two cars, one guy races one car (they decide who's who)?

I voted for, but I think there should be an individual race as well, or you have the option of being on a team. No need to force people to participate. :)

Good to see that it will happen though, and it'll only be my 3rd race :) Kinda bad news for my teammate though, but I'm not that bad (granted I am 44th on the Div 3 boards :indiff:, but I'm not too fond of the M3/Infineon combo anyhow).

44th is not bad. I started in 55th so you did better than me:).
And it seem's that everone wants a team race from what the poll says.

Actually... I see a problem here.

While Div1 and Div2 drivers will battle for first place, there's a chance that Div3 drivers will drive slower than they could, simply to be paired with a super-speeder like Holl01, Hotboy, Brad, Colby, etc.
Or, Div1 drivers will underperform, in order to be paired with a better Div3 driver...

That's a problem...

That's why nobody will know how exactly the teams will be made before they are actually made. So, running a slow lap to be paired with a fast racer could be a mistake.

You could do some average. I mean, take the way they performed in previous events, and use this as a guide - a regularily fast racer, who slows down, should be noticed.

How about each driver having a couple of possible matches?

I changed the figures to reflect the fact that Ben clicked on the wrong option. I can't change the display of his name, but his vote is now in the total for option #1. That makes 22/5/1 instead of 21/6/1.
I also changed the poll deadline to August 30th.

I'm up for it. It sounds like we can get most of the issues with a team event under control as well, from what I'm reading so far. Proceed with whatever! :)

Flat-out
A short additional race will be posted on September 1st ; MY 22nd BIRTHDAY!
  • Short because we'll only have 2 or 3 days to submit a time,
Additional because it will not affect week 71, which will still be run from August 29th to September 5th. Darn, I like week 71...
  • Submitting a time for this short race will be the entry ticket to the team event ; Can do!
  • Teams will be made after this short race is over (So far I haven't figured out how exactly, so keep on posting suggestions.)
  • The following week (72) will be raced as a team event. It's pretty much ready but I'm not gonna say anything about it before it's posted :mischievous:. You're so :sly: Cyril... :dopey:
  • Racers who don't want to enter a team will still be able to race week 72 as individuals. 👍
  • I still don't know how it will affect the leaderboard. I vote let's not let it interfere with it. Just post all the times in one area, along with the people who are not on a team, and then have another area for the team scoring, which is just for our viewing pleasure. I don't think it needs to tie into the hall of fame.

I tell you what....I've I'm teamed with that Colby fellow...Oh man, the **** will hit the fan!

Oh damn. 1st of september, only 2-3 days to submit? I won't have PS2 access from wednesday to saturday... Only Sunday-tuesday. And I really wanted to run the team event as a team. Crap.

^ Only sunday then. The short race will last 3 days, from thursday evening to sunday evening.
The team event will be posted on tuesday as usual.

I was thinking just have a seperate leaderboard. That makes the most sense to me...

And for the teams (again the easiest way in my mind) is using the regular WRS division rankings and have two, three, or four on a team (not sure which would be the best team size, but that's a different discussion) from the same division. From there, adverage the postitions of the teammates, giving a team score. Or, if you want to keep the current results format, adverage the times of the teammates, then formulating the gold, silver, and bronze times.

Kind of late in the week to be suggesting stuff, but school just started up, and the first six-weeks define how good of a year you will have.
I'd like to have a good senior year, so I've been backing off GT4 a bit.

The problem is that there arn't enough submitters to have 3,4 person teams in one division. Some of the time you don't even have 4 people submitting in Division 2 and 3.

I think we should just skip the leaderboard for 1 week if different people in the team are running different combos. If everyone is running the same, then we can just have an individual leaderboard, as well as a team one.

Yeah. I understand, I've only got about 5 weeks of my final year to go! Though WRS is quite addictive, so I like to give it a go, albeit about less then an hour a week lately.
