Valiant Charger, without question, as much as I love AMC. And I'll take mine with the Hemi straight 6, which was more powerful than the 340.

The Hemi 6 indeed ran a quicker 1/4 mile than the 340, and also the Aussie Falcon with your beloved 351.
I'm a Mopar guy above all else, and the 340 is an awesome motor, but there's a reason the Hemi 6 was the top-of-the-line engine in the Valiant Charger R/T.

There were variants of the Hemi 6 that could outrun the 340 yes, but those engines aren't nearly as common, at least as far as I know. More 340's can outrun the more common 6's. The best stock E49 Six Pack Hemi 6's did was mid 14s which is pretty standard V8 territory and most did 16s which is normal for a 6 banger.
That's not the point I'm making. The chances of running across an E49 are slim.The VH E49 Valiant Charger R/T was the quickest accelerating Australian muscle car of the era with the Hemi-6, including V8s. It produced 302hp with the 340 V8 producing 275 horse.
14.4sec quarter and 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. The closest being the GT-HO Phase III, matching the quarter mile but 0-60 taking 6.5 seconds.
The Valiants weren't up to scratch at Bathurst though and the Falcon had the outright speed and horsepower.![]()
