I will love to have leaderboards in GT6. It's just fun founding your friends times and beating them.

Yeah, and I like how the GT Academy demo we had last year had an emphasis on your friend's time, not just the global boards.

Agreed. The global boards can be pretty daunting, so being able to just compare with your friends is cool.

Instead of debating this in other threads where it doesn't belong, I'm posting this thread.

Personally, I would not want leaderboards in GT6 for a couple reasons:

1. Every game I've ever played with a leaderboard just ended up being dominated by people who hack, glitch, or boost their stats with friends somehow. 3 months into the game nobody takes the leaderboard seriously anyway because they know what a joke it is.

2. It takes a game from being about fun competition to being about proving something to strangers, which naturally attracts a lot of immature people who just want to be able to send you annoying messages about how great they are and how much you suck whenever they beat you (even when they're using hacked cars).

3. Leaderboards kill the "just-for-fun" unranked online because everyone naturally flocks to the ranked lobbies and nobody bothers with the unranked ones. It's just human nature to view unranked races as a waste of time, even if the ranked ones are full of jerks and hackers.

1. Take no notice of them. I was 104 for a time on one leaderboard on WRC3, was great to say "I was up there in top 100!" (3 hackers were on top. Not Gt I know, but related.)

2. Ehhhh? In that case you won't like online, it's about racing strangers and proving you're better than them.

3. Proof and evidence please?

I'd vote for "None of the above" though sadly that's not an option. Basically I don't really give two hoots either way, if there are any in GT6 I'll likely check my standing against friends as I do with the current Time / Drift Trial leaderboards we already have. I largely ignore global rankings though as they can and have been tainted by cheaters of one flavour or another.

So if they're there I can happily ignore them as and when I choose, if they're not there I won't be losing any sleep over it :).

This was done really well. I don't really care for global leader boards but a board with just people on your friends list, ideal. I had a great time competing with my friends, it adds to the friendly competition.

If you don't like the leaderboards feature, don't use it. Not wanting it in the game so that other people can't enjoy is stupid.
That is, if it's even in the game in the first place.

I would love to have leader boards in gt6. When I made the switch from forza 3 to gt5, I was shocked there wasn't a global leader board. That used to be my main racing time in forza. Ended up top 50 on every track in S class with a few top 10s. Now I hop on fm4 time to time to beat my friends rival ghost.

Something about the seasonals doesn't appeal to me.

Of course we want leaderboards and there is already a thread on the topic which I started a while back. It was pretty clear that most people do in fact want leaderboards.

My friends and I do a lot of hot lapping on Forza and are always trying to beat each others times either in a race, rival event or just hot lapping on the leaderboard. It adds thousands of hours of enjoyable game play to the game and allows you to see how fast you are compared to others throughout the world. I would say is a must have in all racing games that have an online component. Failure to include this would be a big mistake.

Having played Forza 2,3,4 I can say that there have been times that people have used glitched cars and managed to get a top time. They don't last long and get removed from the boards. Most of the times are legit. I know and race with several people who post legit top 100 times, top 10 times and even #1 time on some of the tracks and have done so several times myself.

Wow, take it easy. You do realize that this isn't an official poll of what's going to be in GT6, right?

It's an opinion board, opinions differ!

Leaderboards are definitely high on my list of priorities for GT6. I'd love to have leaderboards for every untuned car/track combination on stock tires along with unlimited or PP limited leaderboards for all tracks. The number of challenges would be unlimited at that point. Cheating may be an issue here or there, but hopefully PD will keep an eye on things and wipe out leaderboards when it's discovered any kind of cheating going on.

"You can't opt out of a leaderboard."

I'm sure he meant don't look at it not opt out of it. I've done many time trials where I never looked at the overall leaderboards, just the times of those on my friend's list.

Yes to leader boards. Make them like they're used in time trials now. Have a library of cars and tracks combined that you can connect to any time you want.

+2

The way the time trials have been set up these past weeks (stock vehicle with stock tires assigned by PD) is by far the best way to rank one's skill in the game. The tuning aspect that has been used in past time trials along with a variety of cars to choose from adds a whole other factor to quicker lap times that really isn't needed. I wish there was some way to gauge one's tuning skill by rank. The only way I could think of is these set-in-stone time trials (specific car/track) but with car settings available to use. That would be interesting.

Ideally there should be boards for bone stock cars and boards for tuned cars that can reflect every track in the game and potentially every car. The time trials are cool but that is only 1 track and sometimes only 1 car. It would take years to cycle through all cars and tracks using that method.

Personally I would like to be able to drive several different cars on Nurburgring both tuned and untuned and be able to post a lap time or at least have a shot at it. Tuning is a big part of the game and would be sad to leave it out in terms of leaderboards.

@OP: you sure are making a lot of these threads.

Don't you think that instead of making a new thread for everything you want to see implemented, you could just post them here :https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=260298 where there's already good discussion about all of these topics and more people who would like to discuss them?

New leaderboard thread merged with older one. Original thread's poll was kept intact.

Of course it should. That's a silly question. What racing game doesn't nowadays?

I voted 'Yes'.

For my friends and I, time trial leaderboards are a great way to compete with eachother when we can't find the time to be online at the same time to race.

With other racing games, and with GT5p, there were times I would be at work and I knew for sure my friend was at home trying to beat my time around a particular track, I couldn't wait to get back home and check to see if he had beaten me....if he did, then it was a long time before I went to bed!

In my opinion, there shouldn't be any racing game created in this day and age without any kind of leaderboard, whether it's a global or just a friends list leaderboard, or just time trials or career progress.

I think the Autolog from shift 2 was a great way of doing it, maybe it could have been tweeked here and there but in general I loved it!

Lets just wait and see...

Forza 2 was close to ideal. It had time trail leaderboards, tuned car leaderboards, career leaderboards, local leaderboards and a very good online system. Still the best online console racer out there. both 3 and 4 fail to measure up.

This:tup:

If leaderboards were implemented like this it would make for a great system, the only thing that would worry me is PD's penalty system, in fairness it's terrible and would take a lot to improve it. Lets hope they get this right :scared:

Your statement about Forza 2 being ideal is spot on, developers cram to much into racing games these days and the game always ends up a mess because of it. You only have to look at FM3 and FM4 to see the game has gone downhill since FM2. More seems to go into the novelty features (storefronts, auction house, autovista).

Not picking on the FM series here, just giving some examples as I enjoy both games. I just think it wouldn't hurt to maybe strip the game of novelty features and start over, it's as if the devs forget that it's a racing game they're creating.

Hopefully GT6 will get it right this time, leaderboards is a must along with a decent penalty system as I said 👍

I know a lot of people who will be very disappointed if we do not get leaderboards this time around.

Anyone else concerned with what Kaz said in the interview below.

"Yamauchi: Online play is a feature that all games are going to have automatically now. Of course, Gran Turismo is going to have that as a feature. But when you think about it, what’s really important to a Real Driving Simulator isn’t that kind of competition. Online features are something that we have to have, but that’s not going to be the part of the game that will be the deciding factor for most people. The basic simulation is still the core of the game."

Sounds like Kaz includes online features because he has to rather than wants to!

If GT6 does not have leaderboards then its a travesty. If I was responsible for developing GT6 I would have leaderboards for everything i.e driving licence tests, single player events, stock car leaderboards. Obviously with the vast amount of cars it would be difficult to have leaderboards for every car which is why a PP limited leaderboards is a good idea.

Just want to echo others by saying Forza 2 was the best in the franchise. For example I went through the career mode around 5 times because I wanted to improve my times and yet on FM3/4 I didn't even finish the career mode. Having leaderboards for the single player mode on GT6 greatly increases the replay value.

I find Kaz attitude rather odd considering he participates in real racing when laptimes are very important. Take F1 as an example sometimes the qualifying session is more exciting than the race!

@Ivor.

He sounds so out of touch with the marketplace and user base of today's society. Shame really.

Nice to see you back btw. Did you sell your G25 after ? I thought you were pushed over the edge after GT5 lol.
