At the risk of jinxing him, Ött Tänak is on the verge of his first win in Poland. He's got twenty seconds on Andreas Mikkelsen. If he does it, it will be the fourth consecutive rally that Volkswagen haven't won.

EDIT: looks like I spoke too soon - Tänak lost forty seconds and the rally lead in the penultimate stage. Looks like heavy rain and a heavily rutted surface really hurt him.

Being a Norwegian myself it's cool to see Mikkelsen get his second rally win. However, Tänak did have sort of a Toyota moment there at the end, having victory almost in his pocket. It was a nice gesture of Mikkelsen to comfort him. I think he knew how he felt, considering he was in a similar position himself in Sweden last year.

Sad for Tänak, anyways, 6 different winners in a row beats the record from 1998 where 5 different drivers won.

He may get another chance in Finland - the Finnish roads are very similar to the ones in Poland and the DMACK tyres do very well in thise conditions.

The Audi Group S - the Group S car built by Audi (in case that wasn't obvious) - will make its début tomorrow at a demonstration events, thity years after it was built:

http://www.speedcafe.com/2016/07/20/audi-group-s-rally-car-debut-30-years/

I will be there friday, 60 groupe b/s cars and 3 ex world rally champion (Rohrl, Biaision, Blomvquist) are also running.
Here is the complete list :

The 405 Pikes Peak, Audi quattro Pikes Peak, 2 Toyota MR2 222d groupe s, Ford RS200 groupe s and a bunch of audi, 205, delta s4 are also on the list.

Citroen started testing the new c3 wrc on asphalt this week :

Citroën's Yves Matton thinks Craig Breen deserves a seat in 2017, but the team are looking at ten potential drivers to fill their two remaining seats:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/125617/breen-deserves-2017-drive--citroen-boss

The 2017 line-up is starting to take shape, with Meeke, Paddon, Camilli, Latvala, Mikkelsen and Ogier all confirmed. That leaves Breen, Lefebvre, Sordo, Neuville, Abbring, Tänak and Østberg all pursuring new deals, while Hänninen is tipped to return with Toyota, and Evans, Lappi, Suninen and Tidemand all looking to get back in or make their début. With just fifteen (or possibly sixteen; DMACK want to expand to two cars) seats on offer, that means three (or maybe just two) will miss out.

Wonder what he will say when he is Mclaren Boss.

''Not having a Honda Engine means your win is invalid''.

Not surprising Hyundai have failed badly, this new car have been so much delayed and yet is still not able to compete with Volkswagen.
Apparently they were forced to use the five-door model for 2016 when they originally wanted to use the three-door version. It seems to have had some impact, since they can't cure the car's grip problems until 2017, when they will go back to a three-door base model.

Makes me wonder are Citroen gonna have 4 cars?
They have already said that they will use three cars (and expect fifteen in total). But the FIA is coming under pressure to create an independents' trophy for pre-2017 cars, because the likes of Jipocar and FWRL will not be able to enter as there will not be enough cars. The FIA does not want to do it for fear of making the WRC-2 redundant.

Or maybe Hyundai are tired of having to choose between 2 drivers of their 3 to decide who is in the main team for points. Sordo is hard to take out because of his consistency. Paddon and Neuville are equally as fast but equally make as many mistakes. Maybe they have more trust in Paddon right now or something? Didn't Neuville have issues late 2015 with Hyundai?

It's a 3 door car (unlike the 2016 model) without the 2017 aero component.
Also Neuville and Sordo aren't planned to work on the new car as of yet ...

I have no words to describe my disappointment, what a disaster but that is what happens when a rally calendar slot is chosen because car manufacturers want to sell more cars. Why even consider China in the first place if the roads where in such bad condition? How about countries wich worked in the past? I would like to see Japan replace China for 2017.

A storm is what stopped it, the roads were fine before it.

Well next time I wish they could have the new event early in the calendar
The same thing could happen just as easily - Sweden was very nearly cancelled because unseasonable weather meant that the roads started to thaw.
