Mikkelsen went off in a junction on SS7, only 0.2 ahead of Ogier now. Mikkelsen is however on the better tires, so he could stretch it out again. He seems to have the overall better pace compared to Ogier.
 
Really serious crash for Stephane Lefebvre in Panzerplatte, both were injured and had to be cut from the car, sounds like the co-driver got the worst of it. The internet says the last recorded speed according to GPS was 166kph. Hopefully their will be some good news soon.

There haven't been too many updates, but according to Autosport Live, both Lefebvre and Moreau have fractures and internal injuries, but none of them life-threatening.

Holy!!! It looks more severe than the crash Petter Solberg had in 2004. :eek:
 
There is an onboard of the crash in the SS10-13 highlights video on the WRC youtube channel, looks like he ran slightly wide in a fast right hander, probably 5th gear and clipped an hinkelstein, that pulled the front of the car around and head-on into a tree at almost full speed. It's probably a good thing the tree was so close to the road, if it was slightly further back the car would've had time to rotate further with the impact being directly in the side of the passenger door.

It's probably worth noting that Lefebvre and Moreau had to be cut from the car, so those photos would have been taken after they were extracted.

Horrible, good thing they recovered with no serious injury. Anways Ogier won now, not a big surprise now he is not held back by road sweeping. Pity Neuville who lost 2nd place for just 0.1 second.
 
Dani Sordo has re-signed with Hyundai for 2017 and 2018.

Meanwhile, Lefebvre and Moreau have recounted their accident - it seems that the contact with the hinkelstein ripped the engine free, so a lot of the frontal protection was lost when the car hit the tree.
 
I guess that helps the chances of Neuville going to Makinen/Toyota, putting him in a team with Hanninen and/or Lappi would be a really solid line-up.
He's also been linked to Citroën, who have openly stated that they want him back - but Hyundai still have a free seat.

Hayden Paddon's success in the WRC is reportedly making the return of Rally New Zealand increasingly attractive, while Hyundai and Toyota could make a return of Japan or a new event in Korea possible from 2018:

Makes me wonder whenever NZ is gonna replace China or Australia? I seen on autosport that teams want China to be reduced as a candidate again. When we have Poland, if China goes I would like to see another rally on tarmac replacing Poland.

China if I remember was a stipulation to Citroen continuing in the WRC.

Organisers of Rally Australia want another three years at least, so if New Zealand were to come back any time soon, it wouldn't be at the expense of Australia.

I think It´s odd that Australia is in the calendar when there is finally a kiwi driver, most Australians do not even care for WRC?
 
Ford testing today for 2017 somewhere in Catalunya, with Eric Camilli behind the wheel :

The car is rumored to be running an Hybrid engine, no 2017 aerokit as of yet.

I don´t get the appeal to China for marketing, the cars on the stages have just as much in common with the road cars as a F1 car have with a Gokart. I really miss the old Group A era where the road car and rally car had something in common.

According to the article New Zealand will not replace a round, for me it seems odd that would mean 15 rounds? Consider the hysteria that China would be added and create 14 rounds I take this piece of news with a grain of salt.

It's because it will not be a WRC round, the rally NZ will comeback in 2017 but it will be a national championship round. ;)

Ok, I got a bit confused there

Seems they will do some big chances for the calendar next year. Apparantly there will be some tarmac events in early part of the season.

This is something I really hate with the current calendar, no variation gravel rallies 6 times in a row.

Is WRC worth getting back into? I've always loved rallying but found the Loeb years boring with the dropping of so many manufacturers...watched a bit with VW starting up and seemed like more of the same. Been hugely impressed with the European Rally Champsionship, and it's nice to see some of their names popping up in the sport.

Is the competition decent enough to warrant watching nowdays?

So far it's been an interesting season. Not the Ogier one man show we've seen the last couple of years. Next year looks very promising as well. Citroën will be back in full force, and Toyota is joining the fun. VW will have to step up their game considerably if they aim to stay on top.
