IMO, I think this forum needs something like this... something where you can just post news that doesn't deserve a new thread, things that don't belong in any existing threads. And I think this would be a good place where you can also just chat about the 360 and it's upcoming games.

And to kick this off...

IGN
UT3: It's Real
Epic expands its love affair with Xbox 360. First footage and new details.
by Douglass C. Perry
January 25, 2007 - Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007.

Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.

Run and gun (and swear like a sailor) like never before in UT3.
The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.

The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.

We'll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video.

I was wanting a thread like this, but always too lazy to make one. Anyway, UT is gonna be great. Unreal Tournament + Gears of War visuals = major win.

I've been having an issue with PGR3 lately. The framerate has gone to crap, and it's pretty much unplayable now.

It's the only game I'm having problems with, and it just recently started happening. There was no console/game update that could've caused it.

The disk is in alright condition but not perfect. I bought it used, it's in the same condition as how I bought it. So I doubt disk damage is the cause either.

Were you playing online or in single player? Mabey its lag if its online.

It's the whole game, even on the car select menu when the car is shown on the side of the screen.

Try clearing your cache, MX?

With me, it's the damn DRE's... I'll be driving around in TDU and I can hear the disc suddenly spin down to a stop. Most of the time, it'll pop up with a "This disc cannot be read" error, but the other day it just froze solid. Had to physically turn it off and back on again.

Go the Hard drive in the System blade, and press X,X,LB,RB,X,X. The system will ask you if you want to perform maintenance on the drive. Answer yes, and off you go.

This erases the cache area that the games use to store information temporarily. If it gets messed up, which is quite common, then games start to malfunction.

It also deletes all updates for your games. But it does NOT delete game-saves or downloadable content, those are stored separately. Just the program updates are erased, but those are easily re-downloaded next time you pop the game in.

You have to go to device options for the HD.

You left that bit out. And I couldn't figure it out for a minute or so.

It's way better than it was, but it's still not perfectly smooth. It seems to drop a few frames when going into a corner. (Due to walls being at a higher LOD when you get closer to them, I would assume)

Hmm. Do it again.

So I'm getting an X360 on Sunday with TDU and DeadRising+ Live Gold.

How do I not get bored of gaemz ? :)

So is anyone esle here excited about Guitar Hero II for XB360? I've been holding out from buying either of the G.H. titles, waitng for the 360 version. Aside from Forza II, this is the game I am most anxious to play!

I haven't played the game before at all, but I might start when it comes out. 👍

Also, it looks like we can get stuff for earning achievement points.

Xbox Rewards:
Take Your Gaming to the Next Level
Something new and exciting is happening to the way you experience games. On February 12, Xbox® is teaming up with Old Spice to bring you Xbox Rewards and the Old Spice Experience Challenge.

Xbox Rewards offers casual and hardcore gamers alike the chance to earn actual rewards for doing what they enjoy—playing games, earning achievements, and having fun. Xbox Rewards is a free program, but in order to register you will need to have a valid Windows Live™ ID with your Xbox Live® gamercard linked.

The program is launching in the U.S. only, and you must be 13 years or older to participate.

For some Xbox Rewards Challenges, you will need to have access an Xbox 360™ console with a memory unit or a hard drive, an Xbox Live Gold or Silver-level subscription, and specific Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade games. Check out http://www.xbox.com/live/memberships for more information on Xbox Live memberships.

Participation
After registering, you will automatically be placed into one of three Rewards Levels based on your current gamerscore. Your level will determine the rewards you are eligible for during each Challenge. The more you play, the higher you can advance, and the bigger the pay-out.

Level 1 (0 – 4,999 annual Gamerscore): You are developing your skills and gaining experience. Take some time to get used to the program and learn your way around. The Challenges will typically be easier and the rewards smaller.
Level 2 (5,000 – 9,999 annual Gamerscore): We are going to turn up the heat a bit. You have proved that you know how to play and are willing to put in the gaming time to reap the benefits. The Challenges will get a bit more difficult. Never fear, the reward value goes up as well.
Level 3 (over 10,000 annual Gamerscore): This is an arena filled with the who's who of gaming. We don't want to claim that Level 3 is an exclusive club, but if you find yourself winning Challenges here, you've obviously pulled out the big guns, so enjoy while it lasts.
Xbox Rewards is not a hall of fame, and there are no honorary life members. In order to maintain your Rewards Level, you have to continue to play on top. Rewards Levels are based on how many Gamerscore you gain each calendar year.

Xbox Rewards Challenge 1: Old Spice Experience Challenge
Old Spice is teaming with Xbox on the first Xbox Rewards Challenge to prove that Experience is Everything. Starting February 12, you will be challenged to increase your Gamerscore by 1,500 or more before April 12. Successfully complete the Challenge and get a Rewards Package*, and Old Spice will give you the gift of experience—all Level 1 and 2 participants will receive a level upgrade for 2007.

Ready to get your Rewards Package? The first step is to register for Xbox Rewards and join the Old Spice Experience Challenge. Then, it's up to you to complete the task within the time limit. You can't register until February 12. Some of the rewards within the Rewards Package are limited in quantity, and will be distributed to those who complete the challenge the fastest, so be quick about it.

The Rewards Packages listed below are unique to the Old Spice Experience Challenge. Each new Challenge will bring new rewards.

More to Come
Xbox Rewards is not just about playing online and racking up your Gamerscore—you don't even have to be an Xbox Live member to participate and score some great rewards. As the community responds, the program will grow and new challenges will be announced. Some will be open only to certain Rewards levels, some may be specific to certain games, and others won't even require you to turn on your Xbox 360.

Foul Play
Xbox will be monitoring the Challenges and taking the necessary precautions to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. The Xbox Rewards terms and conditions will detail the eligibility requirements. Check back after February 12 for official terms and conditions. Cheaters need not apply.

Get Involved
On February 12, visit www.xbox.com/rewards for more information and be one of the first to register for Xbox Rewards and the Old Spice Experience Challenge.

* The Old Spice Challenge is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States (includes D.C.) age 13+ who are Xbox Rewards members. Limit one (1) Rewards Package per person. This offer expires on April 12, 2007, while supplies last. For Xbox Program Terms & Conditions, check back here after February 12.

Even though the Level 1 and 2 prizes aren't anything to brag about, I had to do a double-check when I saw Fuzion Frenzy 2 for Level 3. It might not be the greatest of games, but it's $50! That's good eBay fodder.

I haven't played the game before at all, but I might start when it comes out. 👍

I played it for like 20 minutes at Wal-Mart one day when we went for grocieries, and I knew right then I had to have it.:dopey: It's been really tough holding out this long, but it sounds like it will be worth the wait, as it will have 10 extra songs vs. the PS2 version, as well as a revised controller, and downloadable songs. The rumor is that some or all of the songs from G.H. I will be available to download, so that XBOX users won't miss out.👍

I was playing Dead Rising before, and the disc drive started to make a grinding noise, and when I tryed to open it, it wouldn't open, so I had to turn off the system and then open it, fully expecting a horribly mutilated disc, to find that It was perfectly fine..

It's a quirk.

First ever HD South Park episode for free on Xbox Live Marketplace
Posted Mar 4th 2007 10:45AM by Kevin Kelly
Filed under: Culture, Microsoft Xbox 360, Online, Video

This coming Tuesday is a big day for people that are both fans of South Park and Xbox 360 owners. Comedy Central is releasing the first ever high definition episode of South Park on the Xbox Live Marketplace to all members (we're assuming this means Silver and Gold) for free. That's right, everyone's favorite word -- free. It will be on Marketplace at that low, low, price of free for two weeks, and will also be available as a free HD-DVD to people buying a new Xbox 360 console or the HD-DVD add-on drive at Best Buy from March 20th through April 3rd.

The episode is a couple of years old, but it is definitely a fan fave. It's 'Good Times With Weapons' from the 2004 season ... better known as the "South Park Ninjas episode. The style changes from the traditional cutout look into anime style pictured above, and it will look, er ... extra-animated in HD. Couple this with the fact that South Park's new season starts this Wednesday, and new episodes will be on XBLM each following week, the fanboys and fangirls should be fairly happy.

Still, for the price, who can complain? Let's hope this trend continues. Give us some free HD Battlestar Galactica episodes already. The timing on this is pretty interesting as well ... right after the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco. Does this mean Microsoft might be finally releasing the rumored Xbox 360 v2 with HDMI?

Hmm... how do you like them apples?

I finally achieved one of my goals the other day...broke one million points on Geometry Wars. I think I ended up with 1,150,000 or something along those lines. I wish I would have recorded it because it was insane how many enemies were on the screen at once! At one point there was about 10-12 black holes at one along with the 100 or so odd enemies. Anyway, i think I can get most of the achievements on this game...my ultimate goal is to get them all but surviving for one million points will be nearly impossible for me, but I'll keep trying. It's a great game!

Tried Lumines Live! ?

A bit different to Geometry Wars, but it's still very fun nonetheless. Until you see you have to pay for extra modes... :grumpy:

Yes, I tried the demo when it first came out, but I didn't really like it. For some reason it wasn't making much sense to me when I was playing it.:dunce:

:D You either love it or loathe it...

:stupid question alert: So yeah... do you have to have gold for xbl to get the download packs for games? For instance RSV is coming out with an update you can d/l? I think it's called DLC but I don't have a clue what that stands for either.

DLC = Downloadable Content. Basically it's a pack which you (in 99% of cases) will have to pay for to access using Microsoft Points which you can buy online or in stores in the form of cards.

You don't need gold to get DLC, but you should probably get it anyway because it's worth it ;)
