From a leaked Walmart ad. $50 price drop.

IMO, it's a bit pathetic on MS' part. Only $50 after 2 years? Granted, it'll definitely boost sales a lot, and they do want to gain some money back... but still.

I don't really expect this to boost sales by much at all. :indiff:
Thing is, MS is really suffering with the growing attention to the 360's reliability issues and slowly people who would preffer the 360 are begining to consider PS3s.

Granted, this will help sales.
However, I don't think it will help sales nearly as much as Halo3 or a garuntee that systems will not breakdown.

This is a shallow attempt to make it easier to ignore the growing concerns over reliability problems, nothing more. I expect sales to stay much the same as they are. It may slow down PS3 sales, but I doubt it will speed up 360 sales.

The reason I think sales will boost a lot is the same reason PSP sales rose sharply after the $30 pricedrop – people on the fence about buying a 360, who are waiting for a pricedrop will cave in because they don't want to wait anymore, and they're not sure when they'll drop the price again.

But that's just me.

Hmm. I wonder who these people are waiting a for a price drop on a system that was already available for $299.99 if price was the issue. It also hurts the value of the elite system.

I'd assume that its a $50 drop across the board (thats what Digg was hinting at, according to their sources), so having the "core" 360 at the same price as the Wii should be interesting. Overall, it should help the Premium systems extensively, I would assume, as I have several friends who were waiting for a price drop before they bought one.

...In my advantage, if I end up selling my 360 to my brother, it will be that much easier to get an Elite, and only spend a couple bucks to upgrade...

1. The core was and still is a retard pack, with no headset, HDD, etc. That, and the fact premium systems are much more common, is the reason it's not considered. If MS bundled a memory card with the Core and marketed it extensively, that would sell like hotcakes. But since they aren't...

2. I believe someone actually emailed Walmart Corporate and they actually confirmed a "$50-$80 price drop was coming soon". The Elite may actually be $399 with the other two SKUs $250 and $350.

How is extending the warranty to 3 years at the cost of $1 billion "a shallow attempt to make it easier to ignore the growing concerns over reliability problems"?

They're not actually DOING anything! :grumpy: If they really cared, they'd fix the problem from the factory.

EDIT: Also they've dropped prices $150 the past few years.

$50? That's it? Granted I already have an X360 but if I didn't I'd rather spend $50 on Encore:80s Edition for my PS2.

While it certianly is (because fixing the problem would be the actual solution to the problem, which Microsoft refuses to actually acknowledge officially), I was referring specifically to the price drop. Besides, we all know that they did the warranty extension to prevent a big old class-action or forced recall more than anything (like what happened to Sony over DRE-ing PS2s).

Considering that the lesser PS3 (that really wasn't that lesser, to be honest) was avoided like the plague, I'd imagine buying the tard pack 360 (which is crap compared to the Premium 360) would make you grossly unpopular with the opposite sex and kill your dog. Or something.

If "interesting" means that the base 360 will still sell like crap and the Wii will outsell it in dazzling odds, sure.

This is clearly a reaction to Sony's price drops. It seems Sony is more of a threat than Microsoft wants you to believe.

Oh my god, only $30 on the Elite? Coooooome on! They shouldn't even bother on the Core units either since rumour has it they are dropping them.

price drops in canada are now like this...

Xbox 360 Pro bundle + Forza 2 = $399.99 CND
Xbox 360 Core = $299.99 CND
Xbox 360 Elite = $499.99 CND

im gonna be picking up the pro bundle as soon as I get back from vacation!:)

I think M$ just did it "sony style". They dropped price to clear pros without hdmi.(pro with hdmi is coming)

I thought the word was that when the price drop occurs we should be seeing the "Premium/Pro" model with HDMI. You just have to look carefully on the boxes...
