Hey guys, Im planning on buying a XBox 360 bundle pack from Costco, is this a smart decision after reading all the problems here? And also, I have the 2Wire Wireless internet with SBC DSL so, would it be able to connect using a Ethernet cable? Thanks!

As far as I know, from the people I know who own quite recent console, some of the freezing problems aren't fixed. It is better than before, but is still there. If you do decide to buy it, I suggest buying a warranty or even an extended one for it...

And yes, you can directly plug an Ethernet cable into the 360. If you were to use the 360 wirelessly, I don't know if your router or ISP will allow it, but it probably shouldn't be a problem.

...I'll tie a few things up here...

1) I bought my 360 in February '06, and I have yet to have any "major" problems with it. There are occasional "freezes" with the system, but most of those have happened with notoriously buggy games like TDU, etc.

2) You may as well get the warranty. Make sure you run the system hard for a few hours, as if it doesn't break within the first few days of use, it probably won't break at all. Granted Microsoft quality isn't nearly as high as that of Nintendo's, but I can guarantee your 360 will probably hold up a bit better than earlier PS2s or XBOXes from the previous generation.

3) I'm currently on SBC/ATT/Yahoo DSL and I too use a 2Wire modem here at home. I have not gone wireless with my system as A) I don't have the money, and B) it isn't that important to me, so I run a 50ft ethernet cable from my computer upstairs to my 360 in my bedroom. I haven't encountered any odd connection issues, as it pretty much is a direct-connect to the internet. However what I have had problems with is getting the 360 to talk to my computer.

4) Titles I'd recommend buying:

- Gears of War (do it now!)
- Test Drive Unlimited
- Project Gotham Racing 3 (yes, I realize PGR4 is on the horizon)
- Dead Rising
- Call of Duty 2 (it is a little better than COD3, but that is up to you)
- F.E.A.R
- Oblivion

...Those are still the big games I'd consider. I myself only own PGR3 and Gears of War, as I often borrow my friend's titles, or rent them. There is plenty of good stuff coming down the pipe, so I hope you enjoy your 360!

Im gettin the bundle with PGR3. I owned an XBox with PGR2, Greg Hasting paintball, Halo 2, Star Wars republic commando, FORZA, and a few other games, and Im trading in my PS2 for games and stuff. I plan on using the Ethernet cord in the bundle to hook the 360 the 12 feet to my XPS 400 comp. The comp uses a wifi card to connect to the 2Wire, so I should be fine!

As for the whole thing going on with the HD craze, make sure it comes with the component cables!

I recently bought PGR3, and the picture is amazing in HD. When does PGR4 come out anyway?

Costco almost always have the latest manufactured 360s, and even if still poops out on you (which I seriously doubt), you can return it since they have the best return policy. Ever. You could return a six month old 360 there and they'd let you return it or get a new one.

And the ethernet cord will work.

PGR4 is due to be released in Fall 2007.

Thanks for the info duck! That boosted my confidence MAJORLY. Off to costco in a few hours! Wish me luck! + some rep for duck and everyone that helped me here, I am now confident in buying a 360!

I got the 360 last night, it was the bundle, but it included some arcade games, so I bought TDU. I LOVE IT! I played for about 2 hours straight and it works great! I cant wait to trade in my PS2 today to get PGR3, COD2 and hopefully GoW.

Hey do you guys know when the updated xbox360s will come out with the hd dvd drive?

Microsoft hasn't announced anything that they'll integrate the HD-DVD drive with the 360.

Its a good question, and one that doesn't have a good answer. Microsoft has said that the 360 is "expandable" should the need arise for things to change, but depending on how strong the HD-DVD player sales are will decide whether or not Microsoft will install the drives inside the actual hardware or keep them separate all together.

...My guess?

They won't do it because as of right now, Microsoft isn't planning on publishing games on HD-DVD, so there really isn't any point in doing it. But it is still one of the cheapest HD-DVD players you can buy, so it isn't a bad deal now that it is pumping out video at 1080p (not games, yet...).

You'll be fine buying one in April or May for Forza 2. There will be plenty around, and chances are, they may even start doing the big bundles again, possibly with the HD-DVD drive and PGR3 for $600. Not a bad deal IMO, but we will see what happens.

around 2007/2008 i think. Better not incorporate the 170mph speed limit again. That was a huge step down from PGR2 tbh

Last night I saw an Expandble HD Drive for teh Xbox for sale , planning on getting an Xbox 360 soon , would I need that to play some games?

The Hard Drive is quite a necessary thing really. You can still play the main games, but you cannot download and play the arcade games off the marketplace without it, as the memory card is only big enough to carry one or two. Plus, you can download demos, extra maps, trailers and movies - all odf which you cannot do without it. If you buy the Premium Pack 360, though, it comes with it, so you have no need to buy one separately.

All of this is assuming that you did mean Hard Drive, right? Not the HD DVD drive...?

sorry lol forgot to put DVD , but its good to know that I should go for the premium pack :)

The HD DVD drive isn't necessary. As far as we all know, it is only going to be used for playing HD DVD movies - no games. There could be a small chance in the future of that changing, though, but no hopes are raised.

this is an Xbox live question , if I bought an NTSC system , would I be able to play with friends in the UK who have the PAL version?

or is it a region free and it depends on the game region? if yes then can I PAL player play online against an NTSC player?

You can play with anyone in the world.

I don't know if anybody mentioned it yet, but do not waste $100 on the wireless adapter. It goes through USB, so it gets very laggy. I figured this would also be the case with the PS3, but seeing it onboard (and not going through a USB bottleneck), it works flawlessly.

thanx :)
ok this brings me to my 2nd question :) , can an Xbox from America (NTSC) play games from the UK (PAL)?

Most of our computers in this household is connected up to the internet wirelessly by USB, including the 360, and we have had no major problems on that front. I do have a occasional game (ie TDU) where pretty much everyone is laggy or I cannot join unless it has a couple of players (ie Burnout), but I'm sure that's due to the poor connection to the server, or the router screwing things up. Everything else is totally fine.

So is it possible to use just a USB wireless adapter from a PC??
