XMODS Drifting

I just went to RadioShack yesterday and i saw cool as miniature Skylines, and Civics.....I was wondering if anyone had bought it, and was able to drift in the car, because I saw a drifting video the the XMOD RC's, and it was sweet.

I am into R/C quite heavily and have seen many xmods run, I also have an HPI Micro RS4, which is a little bigger than the xmods, but the way to get the micros(4wd) to drfit cheaply is to put electrical tape on the tires, with the xmods(2wd) you can probably just run it on a smooth enough surface with a hard compound tire to drift. R/C drifting is alot of fun and it is well worth it IMO, and the xmods are a good, inexpensive option to get into the hobby of R/C.

this thread is prob going to get moved.
but ive seen a few xmods and other small electric r/c's drifting. ive also seen 1/10 scale electric drift also.(not in r/l, only in vids) pretty awesome.

Yeah there is a hobby forum. I love to drift my R/C's it is alot of fun and it is another form of drifting besides GT3 lol.

yeah. check out the hobby forum. there is a huge thread about drift.

bustwave.
Wow. Can some people NOT read "GT3 Drifting" ?

I can't.

So when is GT4 coming out? Is the Maclaren going to be in? :dunce: :dunce:

Just kidding. I've seen those xmod things. They look ok.

How about checking out the "R/C drifting" thread on the Hobbies board...?

I hate Xmods. I hate Xmods for one because they are not what us Pro-Am RC drivers call a "real RC". Anything bought from Radio Shack is not a "real RC". Xmods are also portable rice from Radio Shack, they are so damn ugly. Has anyone noticed that the children that have Xmods are the people that dont know about real RC racing and buy them because they look cool? The owners are usually children that see horrible movies like "The Fast and the Furious" and since they arent old enough to drive the see Xmods at Radio Shack.

Also they are so damn small. Not to mention the applicable part selection is quite limited compared to the "real RC" world. You have to buy the crap from Radio Shack that is made in China or Taiwan. "Real RC's" have very enormous selection of parts that are actually quality. Most of my newest RC stuff is Sweedish, Swiss, Engish, and German. European RC companies (i.e. Schumacher Racing and HPI Racing) produce very high quality parts. The parts are made in a qualitative order instead of quanitative like Radio Shack. Radio Shack is out there for your money and produce low quality parts in exchange for mass production.

If you look at "real RC's" at your local hobby shop, look at how great of quality they are, not some piece of crap Xmod. The selection of upgrades in never ending, you can build a whole RC from just upgrades alone, and even when you think you have upgraded all that you can a new upgrade is released.

Also speed concerns, the fastest I have ever seen an Xmod go is about 20mph, if that. (Now I dont want you Xmod owners to come BSing about how your Xmod goes 21MPH.) My 1/10 Schumacher RC, with minimal electronic upgrades hits about 65+MPH with Xpatter radial tires. Have you ever gone to a "real RC" race? The cars that are sprinting around the track are approaching speeds around 70+ MPH, they would never let and Xmod in a race. If they did it couldnt keep up, it would be a derby car.

Conclusion, spend the extra money for much better "real RC". Xmods are cheaper because of the low quality, and mass production. I dont hate them because of the price (as it is, I think they are way overpriced), I hate them because they arent "real RCs" and because they are low quality Radio Shack crap. I have spent thousands of dollars on my RC stuff and I run my stuff really hard, without anything breaking. I can approach speeds of 70+ MPH. I can get quality parts. I can go to tracks without a problem. I can race against friends with excellent RC's and have a chance at winning. Best of all, I dont own pieces of crap.

damn I type too much, just my 2 cents

That's also the biggest load of crap, ever. There are plenty of X-Mods out there that top 50mph, and there are plenty of upgrades for them that don't come from Radio Shack.

Oh, boo-hoo, they don't cost seven thousand dollars to build up like your "hobby grade" crap. I hate to break it to you, the X-Mods platform has everything that hobby-grade platforms have, and usually minus a 0 on the end of the price tag.

As for the ricer body, well, unless you count Corvettes, Mustangs, and Camaros as "rice", I need to go no further. Not to mention the abundance of GT40, McLaren F1, Ferrari, and Lamborghini bodies available for purchase for them.

By the way, have you ever won a brand new NSX at your so-called "real" RC races? No? Alright then, don't go bashing the XRL, then.

All you see is the outer shell, you seem to no care whats the main point of an RC, the chassis. You sound real ignorant with that last statement about the superstreet NSX. Its smart that Superstreet has joined up with RS but still dosent make them RC Quality cars you can take to the track. Basicly there just toys as stated above. If you wana flame keep on. I like to see you xmod people try to defend.

All I see is the outershell? Right, I'm sorry. What do Mini-Z's, a "hobby-grade" car have that an X-Mods doesn't? Nothing? And they cost three times as much. Can you get 4WD? Nope. How about adjustable weight distribution? Not that either. But at least you guys have independant suspensions, right? Oh, wait, we have that too.

I hate to break it to you, but all RC cars are "just toys" as you describe them. Just because you spend a ton of money on them and apparently make your whole life revolve around them doesn't change the fact that they're toys.

Again I say, have ANY, and I mean ANY of your so-called "real" RC races given away a $100,000+ brand new, real, car? If not, then they're not very good races for being so much "better" than X-Mods races.

Calling me ignorant because I proved you wrong is about as childish as it comes, and I'd suggest you not enter into arguments if that's what you're going to come with as a first reply.

aight this is getting out of hand, Lets drop it..(i dont want to get banded over stupid ****, i enjoy my stay at GTP :)

Me
* i see xmods as a toy from radio shack, (anything RC is a toy from there)
*Considers All RC's are an Expensive hobby except BS quality like RS Rc's and Wal mart type Rc's
*Serious with R/C's, but my world dosent revole around them (trust me kid).

You on the other hand...
*enjoy them
*backs them up
*thinks all rc's are toys.
(anything i left out

We are different people with different views on things you feel me?

I apoligize for thinking my views on xmods, (flameing RS and Xmods) End the end no one will win.

We good?

I have a Supra. I actually hate every kit for it so I used a sharpie to color the hood black and have the stock kits on. I hate all of the kits.

It is very possible to drif tthem since there are drift kits for 'em now, I'm gonna pick one up tomorrow to see what it can do. :D

Please refrain from posts such as this^^^

If you do not have any information or insight relavent to the thread, do not post... Just a heads up... I'm not yelling at you or anything... If I was yelling it would look like this

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!... See, nothing like it at all...

Have a nice day...

Personally I am intrigued by Xmods, and I wish they were around when I was a kid... However, I fully agree with your point about the difference in quality and performance you get with the professional R/C cars... Comparing them to Xmods is just silly... Xmods are definitely interesting, but if I had the money, I would definitely buy a top quality R/C over an Xmod... Tragically, I don't really have enough money for either...

;)

Just to let you know, if you want to buy an XMOD in the UK, I saw them for sale at Must Have IT at Lakeside, Essex today.

http://www.musthaveit.com/ There is a 'Where is IT' section there that tells you where their shops are around the UK and the starter kits are for sale at £50.

Just thought i'd let all you XMOD guys know.

I own both a Nitro car(4wd, 2speed trans blah blah blah) and two Xmod cars (the Xmods are both upgraded highly) and guess what, they BOTH is on the shelf collecting dust. I rarly ever use them.

At the local RS Xmods racing "league"( just tourneys set up for everyone), me and 2 of my friends own at this place, and me and my friends are split on racing styles. I drift, and i own all, my friends go with the grip, and they own all. Between us, it all comes down to who cheats against the others more often in the race. The biggest downside is battery life, which is about .5 an hour for me. But drifting is the style that gets the most props at our RS.

I have been looking at the XMODS cars recently, and they seem pretty cool.
Plus with all the upgrades available, you aren't out a whole bunch of cash.

So, it's a "toy". A lot of cool toys are out there. I have an old RC car that I no longer fool with. But I wouldn't mind getting back into it. XMODS seems like a nice inexpensive starting point.

And you can do what seems like a lot of mods.
I noted that there were quite a few mods for the cars.
Four pack of engines and diffs for drifting, dragging, road racing, high speed racing
3 pack of steering gears to change toe settings
Wheel and tire upgrades
Body kits
New frequency chips (a six-pack) so that you can race with other folks.
Wheel bearings (though I can't figure why they come in packs of 14)
A 4WD conversion.
A tool kit

It may be a "toy", but since you build it from the frame up. And it can be modded up, it seems like a pretty serious toy.

As an aside about the price of one's toys:
I have 2 cues in my closet. I used to play a butt-load of pool in my younger days.
I know guys that have paid $250 and up for McDermott and Meucci cues.
I splurged once and paid nearly $70 for my Huebler.
I used to take some of those guys to "school" on a regular basis with my $70 Huebler, and more with my $30 Dufferin that I got at K-mart.
I'd wager that I had just as much fun as the guys with really expensive cues.

I've got a guitar that I paid $150 for that I absolutely love. The guitar it replaced cost half again as much, and it wasn't fit to make music.
I'd like a $1,000 Martin or Larivee. But my Alvarez is on the stand where I can pick it up anytime and play it.
If I had a Martin, Gibson or Larivee, it would usually be in the case, where it would almost never get played... (cause I'd be trying to "protect my investment").

My point is, that just because something isn't expensive, doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed thoroughly.

Here is my supra, its got every upgrade exept the 4wd kit (4 weel drive on a supra would be silly!) even with the performance tires it still has enough power to do some pretty wicked dohnuts.... here are some pics, enjoy:

I've got a 350Z XMOD and am currently moding to have an engine in it. I'm actually going to have the hood to close with the engine still in it. The engine is a "red top" SR20DET, similar to a FairladyZ that Signal Auto did with a similar engine, that I stole from another cheap toy Silvia. I like being different, so sue me. :D
