So, what are you doing this summer?

I just booked my first parent-free vacation! Woo-hoo! I'm going sailing with my girlfriend and some friends. :)

Heh, coincidentally I just booked my first kid-free vacation. My wife and I won a 3-day cruise at our office party. It's a stupid no-destination cruise but hey, it was free, and we can act like we're not parents for a few days.

Act like your not parents, hmmm, I wonder what that entails! ;)

This summer? I really don't have any plans, I am saving up for a Christmas vacation to New York city, later this year.

Sounds suh weet! In fact, it's my parent's first kid-free vacation too this summer, their first since 26 years. :)

So, where are you dumping the kids? :D

I remember my first parent-free vacation very well.
Best two weeks of my life!

Sailing, huh? Sounds cool. Where are you going to sail too? Please don't tell me on the IJsselmeer!

I seriously doubt I will travel this summer :( But my wife and I knew that would probably happen after the baby's born so we took a trip in October. Last one for a while...

We were looking into sailing in Spain, but we decided to go for Greece. Three weeks on a yacht with my girlfriend and my best friends! It's a Vinea vacation, maybe you've heard of it. :)

Yes, i've heard of it.

I've heard of worse vacations;)

I think vacations comprise 75 percent of the work schedule for some Scandinavian countries and some neighbors. May even be a mandatory napping time.

Is there?

I may be part Finnish. Not sure. Hopefully I'm related to a rally driver.

Well we've got three weeks in Australia coming up in March, so we'll skip a traditional Summer holiday. I rent vines in France (birthday present), so we may go out to see them in September.

Well, we're going to go to the Chicago Autoshow next month(thanks to me, I talked my dad into it, and he just has to get out of working on one of the Saturdays in the time), and possibly the STL Autoshow(why the hell not? It's right here and I can pick up more brochures and posters!).
In June(I think), my dad's going to ride his ZX-9R out to MidOhio Sports car course for thier bike show out there...we went 2 years ago as a family, it's a huge show, but bikes aren't totally my cup of tea. And it was 'hot as a mug there, not to spite we had to go there 2 days so that my dad could see everything.

As for a total family vacation, it's still up in the air. I'd like to do Texas(Mazda's out there!), the Grand Canyon(although it would be really boring...), or possibly Canada. I'd love to do Cali, but that's a ton of driving(although we've driven down to Key West, that's like 900 mi I think) and it's expensive as all get out.

Japan would rock, but to my knowlage, you can't drive there. :(

So far, every year we've gone somewhere on vacation. Hopefully, we keep it up. Although my bro sometimes gives static on vacations like "I want to go here" and all that, although last year he drove his MX-6 down to the Ozarks while we took the MPV, and that solved some of it(and it was funny as we played a cat and mouse game on the highway (reaching speeds of 115 in the MPV, then my bro decided to shoot past us and then we slowed down and at one point(because my bro was ahead of us and didn't know where he was going) we slowed down to 40mph, then my dad gave in and repassed him) and he also took me places down there).

For two weeks in July, I'll be taking part in a trail ride through the Daintree rainforest in far north Queensland. I've done the ride the past 2 years and it's been a blast each time. Ah, there's nothing like the sound of a big bore two stroke at 10,000rpm flying through rainforest :trouble:.

Yeah, beats the hell out of those annoying birds.

Sweet. Possibly out of the country? Please?

I have no big plans. I may go to DC for a week and stay at my cousin's apartment, but maybe not.

Making actual plans is so passe.

Heh.

Why the move to Louisiana?

Mardis-Gras? You're a huge Mardis-gras freak aren't you? You travel down to Baton Rouge every year to get wasted and flash old men who in return give you fake beads.

I'd bet my life on it.

Damn strait Klos!

Erm though Danelle has a hospital job down there...am I right Doug?

If I was a huge Mardi-Gras freak, why would I need to move to Louisiana, rather than just travel down there each May and celebrate like a drunken idiot?

My girlfriend's lined up a position at a hospital once medical school finishes, in May.

No plans as of yet. I've always wanted to take a road trip, but have never gotten around to it. But if I place six exchange students in homes, I get a free trip to Prague in November! So that would be my vacation.

So you could prepare all year long and maybe have a pre and post Mardis-Gras party at your house.

They have hospitals in Louisiana?

Just came back from Tassie and i'm leaving for Mooloolabah in about 18 hours time (by car) for two weeks
