Actually, Led Zeppelin individually are not fantastic musicians in any technical sense. Jimmy Page is a very sloppy guitar player; Plant's voice is, ummmmm, Plant's voice; Jones's bass playing is nothing special, and Bonzo's a slow-n-steady kind of drummer.
But put it all together and they fly. Sonically they are very inventive. It must be understood that they are the band that almost singlehandedly yanked rock and roll from the "pop with guitars" sound of the early '60s through the "totally fuggin wasted" late '60s and into the Golden Age. If Led Zep had never existed, neither would have about half of the guitar based bands since Zepplin was founded.
I have to agree with that. Just simply the greatest band in the history of music for all the reasons listed above. They were innovators and pioneers, music would be VERY different if they hadn't existed.Originally posted by Cano
they were the best band on ****ing earth. and they are, still.

And if Milefile, turbosmoker and the likes don't like Dazed and Confused, they either don't know **** about music in general, or they forgot that this is a recording from the '70s. You have to keep in mind the era that this gig was performed. Besides, Page is using a violin stick when doing this awesome performance. Get your heads out of the toilet, kids, and stop thinking that everything that was recorded before you were born is dull and out of date by default.
That's special. Of course this means nothing about his bass playing for Led Zeppelin.John Paul Jones is more than just a basplayer. He actually is a gifted composer, he playes the mandolin, several other snare instruments along with the keyboards.
I hate statements like this. Do you know every drummer that has ever lived? Me niether, which is why I would only say that he was above average, and I disagreed with neon's assesment, too. John is definitely rock solid, quirky, and very interesting to listen to.John is with out any question one of the greatest drummers that has ever lived

Yes, he is. I listened to Dazed and Confused on How the West was Won last week. It totally sucked. I was actually pissed off at it. It was way to long, boring, and totally lacking in anything that could justify such an extended live version. Then Moby Dick came on, and I was so disappointed at the guitar playing.
Long and short of it: Anyone with one year of guitar playing experience could play any Zeppelin song better than Jimmy Page.
When it comes to Zeppelin, stick with the album versions. Jimmy needs all that production to sound good at all.

i say they are over rated because people say J Bonham was the best drummer in the world....i would say thats wrong..
People say he is one of the greatest drummers. If jou do not agree than who do you think is better?
