Dont mind premium cars, i voted for keep it the same however as im just worried that online there might be issues with normal and premium etc nothing worse than joining a room and getting kicked cause i dont have premium cars and so on, if that not an issue then i dont really care, Prologue has more than met any expectations i have for a video game, so bring it.

@Pluto Dan the Greenman is a real sales talker, wouldn't believe a word he says in a million years, he is always politically correct cause he can throw in things that are not true but are cause GT has not launched.

Why would there be a problem running premiums and standards in the same race? It's not like their physics are any different.
Really? The graphics and sounds are different, why couldn't the physics be different as well?

Well we dont know if the physics are any different? and im guessing not but more to my point, these cars are highly detailed running premium cars might not be allowed with standard cars online? might be specific cars to run with each other? Not saying it will be like this but just worried that it might clash in some way or another.
Another factor is standard cars can smash premium cars apart in online races while the standard cars will only have dents and scratches (correct me if im wrong here think it was premium cars that can loose body panels etc)
see were im going here?

Are we getting standard and premium sounds as well?

Where will it end?

Not according to this post.
Could you underline where I said that they didn't attend something? Thanks.

Standards do get mechanical damage, though. They might not fall apart, but I guess they'll stop working just like the premiums. Well, I hope so, at least.

They did say Standard would consist of cars from GT4 and premium would be created from scratch.

August 18, GamesCom, held in Cologne, Germany: Gran Turismo 5 has been announced! Here is the latest information on the game design.

■ models included
1,000 vehicles
170 Premium new models (full interior modeling, the interior corresponds to vehicle damage)
830 kinds of standard model (some are from Gran Turismo 4 that have been carried over to GT5

So wait...the argument has changed from "those aren't GT4 models" to "we knew they were going to be GT4 models all along?"

 Man this is hilarious.

No need to guess- just scuttle over to gran-turismo.com and you'll find the only difference when it comes damage between Standard and Premium is that with the latter you get deformation and dislodged panels: http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5247p4.html

But mechanical damage will not result in inoperable cars (Standard or Premium) because according to PD, manufacturers hate that. My guess is that just like when you run out of fuel in GT4, the car will crawl at limited speed so that you can head for the pit-stop.

No, the argument has gone from, "We didn't know they were going to be from GT4 until this standard video was released," to "Well it looks like PD mentioned something about that back in August of '09, nearly a year ago now,"

You really like taking things OUT of context, don't you?

Apparently there are two separate physics just like it is in GT5 Prologue- Standard and Professional. But seriously if you step out of your demented world :) you'll probably find that when the game is released, the visual difference is quite negligible. That is if you don't try to go over it with an extra fine-toothed comb.

The recently released 1080p video by PD of the Standard cars, while still heavily compressed (perhaps even more so than the 720p video), gives a better quality capture. You can clearly see that in some cars- example the Camaro and the red Alfa Romeo and the string of cars on the dirt road at the end of the video-the drivers are clearly visible. You can even make out the "Arai" on the helmet in the Alfa. While the rest of the images are just for show:

The standard car look good IMO. 👍

That rally track looks really smooth, not the sort of rally track I was expecting.

I hope people aren't trying to use the justification that you can see a helmet inside Standard cars, so therefore they probably will get interiors. Because, well, I can see plenty of helmets in GT4...

The one thing I'm curious about is what will happen with Standard convertibles.

The common idea around the boards when we first got the 170/830 number was that it had to do with damage. Or that "from Gran Turismo 4" meant only about 170 new-to-the-series cars would be popping up. Not many people thought it was actually going to literally mean "brought straight over from GT4".

Exactly what I was thinking.

Still like I have said I won't be spending too much time to notice the difference between standard and premium cars because I was be too busy racing. The only time I will probably notice the difference is during replays. However as this is a racing game my total time spent watching replays will be very small.

I reckon some would be better off selling their PS3 consoles and purchasing loads of DVD videos on cars. That way they can spend many hrs watching these cars because they obviously have little interest in racing.

I feel some forget this is actually a video racing game lol.

Personally this debate doesn't really bother me.

I think the standard cars still look incredible and as long as they sound better than GT4, drive beautifully and don't have any other hidden cutbacks they'll do me fine.

Although interior view is nice I find it only to be a gimmick. I already have one set of arms and a wheel in front of me, I do not need another.

Hopefully I'll be able to use 'hood' view and not the 'hood or sometimes roof' from prologue.

Sounds are the main thing i'm concentrating on, if a car doesn't sound right I just won't want to drive it.

Because we all know one can only have an interest in racing, or graphics. Obviously not both.

Brilliant .

So everyone who cares about a good presentation of their racing game, about a coherent experience, has little interest in racing?

Seeing two cars crash and one of them getting ripped apart while the other one gets a little dented and scratched up isn't going to further my immersion in the game. It's certainly not going to make it feel any more like a race.

I feel some would accept black bricks as cars as long as they are featured in a GT game...

Looking at the post I was wrong.
No problem 👍

Just my personal view but I put the importance of graphics way down on my list of what makes a great racing game. Furthermore I prefer to see detailed tracks than car models because when your racing its the track that is more noticeable because your obviously looking ahead.

Give me an excellent physics engine, vast online experience over graphics any day. I find graphics on videos games only noticeable at first. When I first played Unchartered 2 I was amazed at the quality of graphics and yet after a few days I stopped noticing them.

Yes but the standard cars don't look likke black bricks and in my opinion are perfectly acceptable.

Still im looking forward to racing you lot. Whilst your staring at the graphics I will be driving straight past you lol.

I wouldnt accept black bricks , but the standard cars do look acceptable to me because they look much better than they did in GT4. If the standard cars still had the GT4 graphics quality I too would be crying about it on here too though.

Sounds more like an issue with your attention span or multitasking capabilities if you can't appreciate the graphics while racing. I for one can do both quite easily at the very same time.

Which is exactly why people are complaining, because other than a shiny layer of improved reflections, they are GT4 cars.

Luminis' example is all I picture if we get Standards and Premiums on the same tracks. Sure, they both get the same mechanical damage, but they could hit each other head on at 200 combined MPH, and only one is going to look like it just did it.

I don't think the damage is too much of a problem, when two cars smash into each other, as long as the mechanical damage is the same it won't effect the race. Sure it might take away a little from the experience, but it's not as if the other car will drive away perfectly ok. It all depends on what cars PD have chosen to make premium. When I first heard the figure of around 200 cars I thought that it would be all of the race cars. That's obviously not right now so I just hope they haven't made some crappy cars premium.

Sounds like the wrong game for you Biggun.
Graphics are PD priority.
For the most part atleast.
