Hypothetical Situation:

You just won a million US dollars, tax free. What do you do now?

Kick your ass.

Invest half of it in decent companys, spend the other half on a Ferrari F40, and a lifetime supply of Marlboro Reds.

 haha mayor

See i dont know what I'd do really with a million dollars...I guess I'd buy a good car like a Ferrari Enzo:cool: or something...(there's half.) Then, since Im going to college pretty soon, pay for my tution and such. And finnaly ill custom build a house to live in for the rest of my life...:D

And mista, arent you a little young for marlbros buddy? I mean, unless you lying about your birthdate...

A million cant get you an expensive house.
If you get the Enzo and pay for collage then how are you going to pay for gas and insurance on the Enzo?
It's not like a million is really a massive amount of money anymore.

No, the age I posted is real.

College.

Seriously? I'd put the two million canadian in the bank and live off the part of the interest, and invest the other part.

I'd invest it and let it sit for 10 years. Then I'd retire and live off it for life.

You could probably get $30K in interest each year off the original 1 million.

1) Call my wife, and jump up and down screaming my head off.

2) Buy an electric blue Evo VIII for me and a pearlescent white C70 for her on my way home from work.

3) Flatbed our old Pontiac off to a friend of mine for frame-off restoration.

4) Buy some software and start desigining our new house.

OK, that takes care of the first 100 kilobux. Then:

5) Buy the land and build the house.

6) Invest the remaining 500 kilobux in something with a moderate risk factor. Put aside the income for private school/college for my 2 kids.

That's it. An after-tax million is plenty to make me pretty damn content.

Well, what I mean is that just some halfway decent housing not some kind of uber-mansion...

As far as the insurance goes... it's called a job. True, it might be expensive, but then again, this is hypothetical...

1) Buy Subaru STi for me / '72 Vette (Stingray) for the ol' lady

2) Turn the Ranger into a Dune Climbin, Mud-hole reckin machine

3) Open a Disc Golf store/course

4) Buy 50 acres of woods and slap a 2000 sq.ft log cabin in the center

5) Maybe sponser a world GT3 I-link tourney (that would cost about 100K to do it right)

6) Buy a garbage bag full of the stickiest dank on the planet

Build a house on the ocean, and invest the rest wisely so I can live off the interest. In my house on the ocean.

I hate to tell you, but unless you're considering "on the ocean" to mean "Alaska", there isn't going to be any "rest" to invest, no matter how wisely. Oh, well. You won't be worse off than you are now, and in fact you'll be better, because you live at the beach.
👍

I guess a mil doesn't get you what it used to. But I don't require a mansion, just a house. With plumbing.

Well I worked this summer at the NJ shore (Avalon specifically) and a house with plumbing will set you back about 200,000. I swear. Just a lot is 150,000. My best friend's mom does real estate there too and I'm in the office a lot.

I'd use it to pay off all my parents debts.. *duh*

Then... maybe... 800k ish.. left over
Tear down the house and rebuild it like my dad's been wanting to for a while..
400k left...
Throw it in a 'good' bank with high interest rates..... watch it grow!

Get through university with the interest that comes off the 1 mill.

Come out, buy an apartment. Go get a job, THEN get a good car.. :D

You should invest it first! Then buy everything you want in like 5 years. It will pay off in the long run.

Hm...True....

Invest FIRST: Use the monthly interest I gain to pay off parents' debts.. lol

Buy an Evolution VII. Its not...Americanized.

If I just won $1,000,000, I would pay my school bill, buy my parents their car of choice, buy me a Skyline R32 and R34, invest about $300,000, and put the rest in the bank.

1. Be toldly happy.
2. (Assuming this takes place after I'm 18-ish) - Find a nice plot of land with no people (ha!), build a house (one story only please, thanks)
3. Buy myself a nice car - Maybe an Audi RS 6
4. Buy the newest Apple computer/laptop and all of the goodies
5. Put rest in the bank.

1. Pay off all debts for most of the family.
2. Pay for college beforehand.
3. Buy car(s).
4. Invest some of it.
5. Buy a good studio in NYC and base my art studio in it.
6. Buy house/apartment in NY.

Werd.

I'd either put all $1,000,000 in the bank or do something like a $750,000 bank/$250,000 mutual fund split.

I'd put away money for college, buy a junker car to drive to school, and spend the rest as I see worthy oppertunities.

Make a pair of trousers out of $100 bills. Wear them commando style.

Klos is right, bank the money now, spend later.
