More new Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are available from today, unusually featuring three events that focus on racing cars and with a change to the standard ruleset.
Whereas we’ve seen Driver Rating (DR) updates switched off for one of the three races — almost always Daily Race A, but last week it was the excellent Daily Race C — for almost the entire life of the game now, that isn’t the case this week. All three races will have both DR and SR (Sportsmanship Rating) turned on, so every second of every race counts towards both of your ratings.
That’s certainly going to be interesting in Daily Race A (as you can see from the video below), which is the second competitive appearance of the new Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car since its introduction in June’s 1.60 update — following the Time Trial that began on June 26.
You’ll need the standard Racing Hard tires fitted to the car for this race — it is, after all, in asphalt stage specification — which comprises a six-lap race around the Sardegna Road Track B course. That’s the variant that features the full main straight from just before the kink, but which cuts back through the wind farm rather than heading out into the Sardinian countryside.
Naturally you can borrow a car for the event if you don’t have one (though it’s available in the Legends Cars dealer right now at 300,000cr), but as it comes in only one livery you may like to use your own for something a little more distinctive.
For Race B you’ll be visiting a track we’ve not seen for a little while in Sport Mode, for a regular sprint race in the Gr.4 cars.
It’s an open-category selection this week, so you can pick from any of the wide range of cars and drivetrain types in the class but — as usual — it’s looking like AWD rules the road again. When we last looked at the leaderboard, the Genesis G70 occupied 98% of the Top 100 times and a GT-R was one of the other two.
That could be due to its abilities with elevation changes, as you’ll be slowly climbing and then rapidly descending Mount Panorama in a five-lap race. Racing Hard tires are again the required rubber and there’s no strategy as usual so it’s just lights-to-flag (and hopefully visiting no concrete barriers in the middle).
Even the most seasoned tire-whisperers will struggle to get through Daily Race C on one set, with the race consisting of a 15-lap tour of the reverse variant of Deep Forest Raceway in the Gr.3 cars.
You can pick any of the Gr.3 cars for this race, with Racing Medium tires required. It’s a relatively well-balanced class so there’s plenty of options here, but it looks like faster drivers are tending towards the fictional Peugeot RCZ Gr.3 model even if it isn’t necessarily the fastest one-lap car.
That could be down to the fact that the tire-wear multiplier is at a pretty steep 7x — making the 15 laps equivalent to 105 laps. There’s also a fuel consideration, as even though the 3x multiplier isn’t that big you might find some of the thirstier cars getting a little tight.
Another thing to bear in mind is the mandatory pit stop. Even if you could make the tires last all race — one for the most extreme of tire-whisperers only — you still need to head down pit road once, so the time offset by tire saving has to be less than the couple of seconds it takes to strap on new rubber. Failing to take your stop will also cost you a minute in post-race penalty time, and watch out for the pit entry and exit as you’ll collect a three-second on-track penalty for crossing the lines.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, July 14.
