Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: A Thousand Ways

More new Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are now available, beginning today and running for the next seven days and including a special tie-in event to mark this coming weekend’s Gran Turismo World Series live event.

The format is as we’ve come to expect, comprising a one-make road car event in Race A, and race car classes for B and C, although there are a couple of changes to the regulations this week that may pique interest.

Race A takes us to the Sardegna Road Track location, for a four-lap blast around the reverse version of the B layout — featuring an awkward, kinked braking zone for the first turn. It’s a race for the Honda S2000 ’99, in standard guise with the standard Comfort Soft tires, and while there’s a Grid Start in effect it’s just the regular kind with no False Start mechanism.

Unusually, this is a fully ranked race this week, with Driver Rating updates turned on alongside the regular Sportsmanship Rating updates. This hasn’t been the case for most of GT7’s life, but we have seen it a few times recently.

This week’s Race B is the second in a row to feature the Gr.3 cars, and this is the event linked to the GTWS in Berlin this weekend — effectively being a race based on the hot-lap qualifying for the Manufacturers Cup.

The race itself comprises a single lap of the Nurburgring 24hr circuit, and it’s a free choice of the Gr.3 cars rather than just the 12 finalist marques as we’ve previously seen. In fact the early qualifying times have two non-finalist brands in the top ten.

That means that you can pick any Gr.3 that you’re comfortable driving on Racing Medium tires for this one-lap blast, which is also one of the shortest Race B events we’ve ever seen at eight minutes and change. It’s also one of the most lucrative, with a “+1000%” (or eleven times the usual) boost to credit rewards.

Finally, this week’s Race C is another Gr.4 challenge as we head to the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit for a 12-lap run around the countryside of Kent, UK.

It’s another open-class race, allowing any of the Gr.4 cars to take part. Brands isn’t much of a power circuit, so we’d expect light and nimble cars to come to the fore this week — much in the same way they did at Laguna Seca last time out. Indeed that not-really GT4-class Megane V6 Trophy is looking to be the weapon of choice again.

There’s a limited strategy aspect this week, with all cars required to use the Racing Hard tires and minimal tire wear (a 1x multiplier means normal wear rate). However you will need to head into the pits to satisfy the minimum pit stop requirement — though you don’t need to take on fuel or swap tires in the process.

Brands Hatch can be tricky with the pit lane entry and exit, so take care as crossing the solid lines (or even touching them) will attract a three-second, on-track penalty. Failing to take a stop lands you a one-minute penalty added to your race time.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race — other than in Race A where DR updates are turned off — and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, September 22.
