419PP here, but, to quote Top Gear: "It's not how much power the car has, it's how much power it can actually use, and the Porsche makes such good use of every single one of its horsepower"

Wait, Porsche? Ignore that. >_>

Okay! Now it's time to announce the final round for the

...and wish me luck with the final scores. I think it'd be prudent if everyone competing in March gave me all their round results in one e-mail so I could deliver a final, decisive verdict.

This next challenge will be from now until next Friday, March 2. March 3 will be when I announce (I hope) the new rules set for the next season of the Budget Car Challenge.

For now, here are your instructions:

We've all tried to do it no matter what car we've been given: no matter what it is we've tried to slide it with...predictable results.

Now that you're all ostensibly GT5 veterans, how can you do with a similar challenge?

You will go to Tsukuba, Forward and take part in a Drift Trial Sector Mode run.

So you want round 1, 2, 3 etc. in one e-mail?

Drift trial, fun. :D

I think the idea is to send Airrider 4 e-mails / month.
Before the deadline of the each challenge.

But he has accepted late submissions before.
To taking a shot at the February challenges 1-3 is most likely ok too if you have missed them.

Submitted drift results.

drift trial? in an FF? this could get ugly.

I have one word for you.. handbrake :sly:

I believe I should sit out this round, because coming into it so late gave me an unfair advantage. I came into it knowing 3 of the four tests before I ever even picked a car, whereas normally you have to build and lock in you car choice before you even see the first test; thus on the off chance I end up anywhere but last place it would be an ill gotten gain. I do look forward to taking part in the next season properly with you guys though. until then I just bought Test Drive Unlimited 2 and am getting pretty engrossed with it, it took
several hours to keep my '66 stang on the road at all, but now it's really becoming quite fun having a whole island to play on and off road (I'm still stuck on ibiza, you unlock Hawaii later) anybody else play tdu2?

I'm back in for March, I think my wheel will be up and ready. In a completely unrelated matter, I have found a use for the ironing board! Finding more regular time to play GT5 now, and should only miss a couple more entries :)

I'm interested in joining. (need to learn how to drive a manual:lol:)

When will the next season be announced rules/restrictions specific to that season posted and entries accepted?

I noticed that you don't seem to be updating the OP anymore so makes it harder to find information regarding the current season.:odd:

I play TDU2 once in a while. I played it a lot when I first got it and when the exploration pack came, but it's lost its appeal after discovering so many bugs.

Airrider has been a bit busy, I think he'll do a huge update when he gets a chance. 👍

Here is a simple starter quide. Just replace the combo part with current combo / car requlation specs.

I've sent my results in too. A bit embarrassing this month when I look at all four rounds put together, but never mind. If I'm lucky my results will be so far behind everyone else they will drop off the leaderboard altogether.

I had TDU2 for a while but when I found I was spending more time in the casino than I was driving the cars, I realised it was time to head back to GT5. I think my moment of clarity came after spending three nights on the slot machine to win that prize car (Audi?), then took it for a drive and found I didn't like it that much anyway.

Thanks, everyone.

I'll tally up the results and try to get them before the end of next week.

For now, though, with March closing in, it's time to give you your...uhh...March-ing orders.

March will be a real equalizer: SITTING UNCOMFORTABLY!

Prepare cars by Monday according to these rules: you will take 30,000 CR and go out to buy any car you think will make a good all-purpose car for the month of March.

Seems simple, right? Well, here's the catch: there's good news and bad news.

Good news is that your tires are free. Bad news is that they have to be Comfort Hard tires. For everything else, you will have to spend money from your 30K budget in order to modify your car for challenges testing your driving skills.

Oil changes, car washes, color changes, engine and chassis rebuilds are free, and you can't just race-modify your car (if somehow there was a race modification pack that fit into your budget, I guess). Prepare your cars, submit them to me and wait until Monday, when I will give you your first set of challenges.

Thanks to everyone for taking part in the first anniversary of the Budget Car Challenge. And as always, good luck, and good driving!

Looks good Airrider.:D

If its okay I'm going to try and get in on the action...now to find my ultimate beater car and figure out how to get it to accelerate, stop and turn on CH tires...:odd::crazy::lol:

Oh and does a set of pimp wheels come out of your budget?

Comfort hard tyres eh? Looks like all this drift practice is going to pay off. Also you mentioned racing modifications, are premiums allowed this round? Or have they always been allowed and I somehow convinced myself that they're not?

Wheels have been free for a while because they don't do anything. Aero parts however do come out of your budget.

Hmm I remember a thread some time back where a guy tested a bunch of different upgrades and showed something like a 3 tenths of a second improvement at top gear with custom wheels on premiums...been a long time ago now and I don't recall the thread title now. but it was something about getting the best performance increase for the amount of credits spent, so things like Air Filters, Catalytic Converters and the ECU got high marks while other tuning parts got low marks either because they only added slightly to the cars performance or because of their high cost.

I wouldn't trust that test, especially on the TG track. There's no actual timer so you're doing it by eye, which won't be accurate. Someone should do that test on Route X to confirm it.

Sounds like its going to be a fun month to me!

Comfort hard tyres, and being out of practise with GT5, I'm gonna do great here

Should be fun though! Dont think I've ever used comfort hards before...

Good all rounder eh? Taking into consideration boot space, seating, etc.? :P:P
Should be a good week, the vagueness of the restrictions should mean a pretty varied group of entries.

vehicle choice/build sent!
comfort hard tires, 390 hp, what could possibly go wrong? My mind told me go AWD like an evo or subie, but my pride ordered me otherwise; really looking forward to the first challenge!
watch, VTiRoj will probably bring a '79 civic with all his suspension doodads (doodads?) and leave my tire roaster in the dust! I almost brought my high mileage superbird (just barely made the budget!) but then sanity came in and b*tch slapped my romantic butt into shape.

I'd almost pay to see the bird!:gtpflag:

I can post "Big Birds" times after each test for fun if you like, I wouldn't normally but I doubt anyone will enter it into the comp. for earnest.
that thing would be hopeless anywhere but Daytona!

Even on Daytona it wouldn't be good since PD messed up its stock gearing.:(

Just submitting my car choice now. Didn't spent any time testing my possible choices this time and just went with the first car that looked competitive, so we'll see how it goes :P
