Aston Martin Pulls the Wraps off the All-New DBS Superleggera

Here it is: the 2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera in all its splendor. Revealed this afternoon, the details on the new Aston range-topper are juicy.

Not only are we seeing the car itself in full, but its powerplant as well. The all-new AM makes use of an uprated twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 engine offering 715hp and 664lbft of torque. With such serious grunt under the hood, the Superleggera takes off to 60mph in 3.4 seconds. All this power runs through a ZF eight-speed transmission guaranteed to handle the brute force.

While not the first model bearing the “Superleggera” moniker, it’s the wildest to date. Carbon fiber body panels shed 160lb of weight over the DB11. In full, that brings the total down to 3,733lb.

There’s no denying the Superleggera is gorgeous. As we expected, it pulls design cues from the DB11 and Vantage to great effect. The sportier design is closer in nature to a supercar thanks to it aggressive stance. The DBS also boasts a supercar-like top speed of 211mph. For comparison’s sake, that falls beneath only the One-77 and Valkyrie hypercar in Aston’s pecking order.

With streamlined tail-lights, quad exhausts and more aggressive styling, the DBS exudes an attitude all its own. Up front, a V12 Zagato-esque grille pairs with a new splitter, channeling air to better assist brake cooling and downforce.

With the addition of redesigned fender vents, it all adds up to the body producing 395lb of downforce. That’s more than any other road-going Aston, making one thing clear: it means business.

Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer certainly sounds pleased with the new model:

“DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name, but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector. Handsome beyond measure, its lightweight carbon composite and aluminium body is sculpted into a shape with tremendous presence and charisma. Thanks to the remarkable torque available from its twin-turbo V12, DBS Superleggera also packs a breath-taking punch, yet its dynamics have been carefully honed to engage drivers of all ability levels. Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship.”

The DBS Superleggera will start arriving at dealerships in the third quarter of 2018. Prices will start at $304,995 USD (£225,000 / €274,995).
