Fanatec Reveals New CSL Steering Wheel

CSL-Rim-02

After teasing us last week, Fanatec has shown off their newest product in full, the CSL Steering Wheel P1. Compatible with the Club Sport Wheel Bases (the original as well as V2), the CSL wheel is unique among the existing lineup, as it doesn’t require the Universal Wheel Hub to perform on the XBox One.

Chief among the features of the wheel is the new RevStripe, a combined, LED-illuminated centre strip and rev counter. The small 3-digit display directly below that functions with the tuning menu and telemetry data.

CSL-Rim-01The aluminium spokes house the full array of XBox buttons, along with one analog thumbstick (not a rotary switch as we originally reported from last week’s teaser). At 1170 grams and 30 centimetres across, the wheel is lighter and smaller than the current crop of Fanatec rims, while a quick release system allows for quick replacement if need be.

Enticingly, Fanatec has already hinted at a new, matching CSL wheel base, to slot in below the Club Sport offerings. As the CSL is compatible with not just the One, but the PS3, PS4, and PC as well, on its own, it will be interesting to see the price point of the upcoming base.

The new CSL wheel is already in stock on Fanatec’s website, priced at $139.95/£149.95. As always, you can help support GTPlanet by ordering via our affiliate link.

Looks interesting and I like that simple display, but +160€ for a rim and another 600€ for V2 base (add another 300-400 € for pedals and H shifter) doesn’t make this rim must buy. Thanks, but no thanks.Still a good deal for existing F users.

There is also a Black Friday deal involving the CSW V2 base and this wheel. You can find it on Fanatec’s website. Americans will be happy…Euros not so much…sorry.

I don’t have an Xbone but I’d buy this wheel since it’s so affordable and compatible with other systems. Maybe a driving force GT-esque type deal, except multi-plat

    $140 or £150?

Has something happened recently in the currency markets or are us Brits getting shafted with that?

I was thinking the same thing. Although I’m Canadian and used to routinely paying more than just the exchange rate on things, isn’t the pound worth around 1.5 of the dollar? That’s quite a difference. Maybe the prices are mixed up, but that still would be a lot more for you folks across the pond

A seven segment display trying to display upper and lower case text. Did I just get teleported back to the seventies or what? :-) Is this seriously the best they can do in 2015 when we routinely carry 300dpi OLED displays in our pockets?

Looks like it’s meant as the budget, entry level wheel for the Fanatec ecosystem, to give cheap compatibility with the XBone. You have to remember that most XBone Fanatec Wheel users are likely to be current owners and this gives them access to the XBone without the additional cost of the Universal Wheel Hub and it’s also compatible with PS and PC. A package deal with the upcoming CSL base might put it in a very competitive position.
