I think it is the Moss camo, basically its best feature is that if you wear it while exposed to sunlight it regenerates your stamina. Nice little perk if you don't want to spend time gathering food. In order to get it you have to sneak up on The End and hold him up. It takes 3 tries or so aiming at his head or crotch before he finally coughs up his camo.

Yep used the thermal goggles as well. Very effective.

Haven't progressed that far yet. Right now I'm at the mountain ledge overlooking Groznyj Grad.

thanks, I was wondering how to get the moss cameo. hold him up just like you would a MGS2 soldier. heh, first time, I got an ink cap mushroom

the fights you have to worry about are with/against Volgin.

I beat all three of those last night. The only one I didn't beat on my first run was the timed one, because it took me a second to figure out how to penetrate his elctric shield.

Stamina kill, Cold War Camo, ugliest uniform in the game, but it helps a lot in the motorcycle chase.

I also found the sneaking suit. That one is going on until the end just for coolness sake.

So does MGS4 have the cure and eating stuff? I knwo it has a psyche meter, which I guess is fine as a replacement for stamina, but I have really enjoyed the added aspects of cure and food. Of course, I also ate everything I could find just to see what Snake thought and if it had any affect on me.

I was wondering that as well as the full weapons list, i should find out tonight as thats when im getting it :D

Exciting stuff for me.

I'm going to have a go at an < 5 hours, no kill/continue/alert play through on big boss extreme. It can't be as hard as it sounds :)

It is, and it isn't.

I was surprised how easy it is to crawl past PMC soldiers, actually. Also, there are places you can literally run and not get spotted. Each stage has a safe path you must find to go quickly through that stage. There are still soldiers you must deal with, but they are few and far between and makes the stage very easy compared to searching the area for goodies and then confronting the soldiers you come across. Ignore them, go around them and they wont spot you.

However, I wasn't prepared for some 'boss battles' that were insanely difficult, like the 'bike ride' with Eva. I had do that over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over, and over, etc. The Frog battle at Advent Palace wasn't fun for me, either. I hated all that waiting until they walked into my smoke traps.

A good tip for the 'bike ride' is to use chaff 'nades for the gekkou (it stops their missile and gun attacks), smoke and stun grenades for everything else, along with the Solar Gun and Mk. 22 tranq pistol. I've got plenty of tips, if you want them. Just let me know.

Personally, I haven't finished my Big Boss Emblem run, yet. I was missing some key songs that I needed, and had to play through the game again to find them. However, my iPod songs list on the BBE run didn't get updated, so I have to start all over again. Plus, I'm not sure if MGS4 will get trophies, but I'm waiting until I get the official word it will or wont to restart and finish my BBE.

Here's a hint: Don't shoot the helicopter. Those gun turrets are extremely tempting, but you really do not want to do it.

For fun though kill a vulture and then call Para-medic until she tells you about it.

Hmmm... I tried to get on one of the turrets as I was progressing up to the mountain top and wasn't successfull. So maybe only the turrets at the very top are usable?

I'll have to try the vulture trick.

Pretty much just like that however when you sneak up on him and initially draw your CQC weapon you won't get the trademark "freeze". You have to immediately go into the first person view and then aim at his head or crotch.

I used the first one you come across. Hit Triangle when you walk up to it and he climbs in. If you do it I suggest the first one as there is a crawl tunnel nearby that you will be spending the next 5 minutes or so in, as until the full caution goes away the helicopter will search the entire cliff face for you.

I'll have to try the vulture trick.
Really if you have a bunch of different food types you get all kinds of easter eggs when you repeatedly call Para-medic.

Also, call Sigint while wearing Naked camo or while hiding in a box.

I have probably added 4-5 hours to each game just by looking for all the different codec easter eggs.

I am actually looking forward to MGS4 because the best ones were between Snake and Otacon in the MGS2 tanker mission.

Kill an enemy and wait for a vulture to eat him. Kill the vulture, capture the 'food' of it and eat it. Call Para-medic afterwards, and then something funny will happen later in the game.

Aw man, I just shot one that was flying. I don't remember if I got another one after I shot a few guys with the turret.

Although,
You aren't referring to The Sorrow part where the guys ghost is being pecked by a ghost vulture are you? That and the ghost parrot yelling, "Grandpa! Grandpa!," at The End's ghost made me laugh.

I have been going for as few kills as possible (turret incident aside), although somehow my CQC throws keep turning into neck breaks or throat slashes.

I gave up on CQC as I always manage to screw it up. I have become quite adept at diving under trucks though.

You almost got it! It's something to do with the Sorrow 'battle' so you're mostly correct.

i know what it is (i have two finishes on MGS3, Tsuchinoko rank/Markhor rank), and I won't give it away.

I try to have as few kills as possible, bu it's hard not to be a "mean widdle kid" when it comes to pasting guys in certian places . you learn to be very carefull with your grab and interpret bits.

man, and I thought everybody woulda been done and finished with three by now, and tired of it. 3 made me a "copperhead", and, i actually finished MGS2 straight up (no cheats!). and for me to finish a game without a little assistance of some sort is a miracle.

now, lets let these guys get back to Snake's and Kojima-San's grand finalie.

It is, and it isn't....

Thanks, I've bought up the maximum amounts of non-kill ammo and stun grenades i can hold on extreme and the solar gun will come in handy. I'll post up my progress :)

One thing i noticed that would help in any timed playthrough...
The solar gun works amazingly fast against Vamp. Like one or two shots + the needle. Makes sense i guess :)

Has anyone noticed how rare chaff grenades are? You can't buy them from drebin, and after playing through the game 3 times (actively searching for them on the 2nd and 3rd times + not using any) i've only got 8. I've been saving them for the <5 hour run.

Well i got it, last night, managed to get to the point where you meet Big Mama.

Its been fantastic so far, but i must say following that rebel to the church was a little to lengthy if you ask me. Perfect otherwise :) at Solid and Liquid chicken!!

And I have finished MGS3.

My backstory is filled in and I am ready to conclude this tale.

Now time to buy MGS4. Oh and look, it's pay day. :D

I hope you purchased the emotion tranq ammo and the emotion (colored) smoke grenades. Purchase at least 50 of each, and you should have enough tranq rounds and non-lethal ammo to easily finish a BBE run.

Oh yeah, we've noticed. It's also very effective against B&B bosses in their beauty state.

There are three or four places to get them.

Act II - During "gekkou through the village" run, on the left side under one of the stands.

Act III - During 'follow the resistance member' on an upper level area with a helicopter and two guards.

Act IV - Center of helipad at SM.

So, I bought MGS4 last Friday.

I have been getting in what playtime I can while dealing with life at the same time. Liquid Easy mode just to get the story in on my first run though. I can already say that I will be playing this multiple times.

So far I have gotten into Act 2 and just beat Laughing Octopus (which was awesome in 5.1 audio) and tracked Naomi to the helicopter scene. Face camo is awesome.

This is incredibly awesome. I am still on an SDTV with a 5.1 Dolby Digital system and this is the most beautiful looking and sounding thing that has graced my home entertainment system.

I'm loving it so far and will likely have questions as I go along.

I will update on my progress as I go along.

Most definitely the GOTY for me.

I finished it last friday, using a mates PS3, and i think its absolutely awesome.

It took me 22 hours, and i still cant believe it can be done in 2 and a half.

I mean i know it can, i just cant believe it.

I would love to play through again, as id do so much, so differently, but that will have to wait till i get a ps3, and a new TV.

:irked:👍

Someone has finished the game in 2 1/2 hours???

MGS4BigBoss2.jpg

First, getting that time is easily possible, but with no alerts or kills? Ridiculous!!!

Especially considering some tranq shots I did led to a guy falling to his death unintentionally.
And then there was the RPG at the helicopter....I just wanted to see if I could.

Anyway, I beat the game this weekend and it was awesome on so many levels. Eight kills total on Liquid Easy.

Now I need to go back through and see if I can find a way to do it without any alerts. Without the alerts I can easily get through without killing people. All my kills came from gut reactions during alerts and not being able to take my time.

Agree, that is the worst part of the game..
I loved it, especially if you keep the trenchcoat on. It felt very Noire. A kind of more traditional spy style of gameplay.

You would. :trouble:👍

There are a few speed runs on youtube, and one of them is 2 hrs and 31 mins.

Why do 1080p tv's cost so much....

:irked:👍

I got it when it came out but never really played till now. The game is amazing in all aspects, I dont mind the looong cut scenes. The controls are great the graphics great. Best game I've played this year.

Yeah my next playthrough is going to be a timed run but 2 1/2 hours with no kills or alerts on the boss extreme is quiet an effort though...

there are people out there two whom a video game of any complexity is majorly boring because, to them, it's too easy! these are the people that post speed runs on YouTube that provide a refrence for the rest of us.

these are also people that probably couldn't figure out a PONG console.

a thank you to all the gamemasters out there for giving the lost (like me) a hand.

Going through it again on Extreme made it much more fun, i enjoyed the challenge and the different route felt much more sneaky and appropriate. Still my least favourite Act but i love the entire game including that now, just love it less then :P

Just trying to finish my 5 hour play through after getting the Altair costume last time round :)

Regarding past discussion on any future games:

'A Snake for a new era,' Kojima teases
by Christopher Grant Jul 29th 2008 2:11PM

A brief interview with Hideo Kojima at Variety isn't so much full of megatons – he hasn't read much Haruki Murakami but he does enjoy Phillip Dick and Kurt Vonnegut – as it is with some insights into the supposed "end" of his Metal Gear Solid series.

Kojima shares some of his thought process on the creation of "Old Snake" – "I made him this way because of the unique characteristics of the game medium ... he represents the players themselves because of the interactive nature of games" – as well as teasing what we may be able to expect from "a new Snake." Kojima says, "If there ever were to be a new Snake (might have a different name), he will be a Snake for a new era." No, we're not sure what that means either, but it gives us great satisfaction in knowing that Kojima probably does.

And my thoughts, having finished the game now:

Spoiler tags as it somewhat refers to MGS4 related stuff.
I think a Raiden game between MGS2 and MGS4 where you get to rescue Sunny, get captured, become ninja superstar would be cool. But the story has been told, so it won't be a major surprise.

But I would much rather have a World War II themed game where you play as the boss. I don't know if Kojima has the ability to have a female lead as his somewhat perverse humor borders on mysoginistic, but that would be awesome.

Whatever Kojima comes up with I imagine it will be awesome.

Well, I managed to complete my 5 hour play through no kills etc. Most of it was no trouble, boss fights i could afford plenty of ammo and once alerts are avoided, the potential for an enemy to be killed becomes less and less. I had a couple of 'is there someone there?' moments which forced a tranq shot.

However, by far the most frustrating bit, was the bike chase section with Eva in Act III, auto aim is a neccessity for taking down some of these guys, particularly the turret users during the last section of the chase, using normal aim during some sections to avoid being shot in the back by picking out the correct targets. I will gladly admit i had to exit and load for this particular section multiple times. Generally the game is more fun i found on this difficulty, enjoy any who go for that Big Boss Emblem to, the facecamo you unlock in the process is pretty funny.

EDIT: Should I, or someone else, create a Metal Gear Group in the social groups? Named something like i dont now, Metal Gearheads?, somewhere for fans of the entire series to discuss the plot in its entire glory across all the games as well as discussing MGO and future games in the series
