Duno spun quite a lot though throughout that race. She shouldn't be in the series, but its amusing while it lasts.

Sato divebombs are still dramatic too . I have to say Danica's team must be pretty smooth talkers as one minute she was all expletives on the radio then the next she was all "well I don't want to say he did it on purpose". She had a decent move up the field during the race, but what I'm quickly finding with Indycars is that luck plays a huge part in races rather than skill. The only reason she got to the top 10 from the back was luck with strategy and pace cars. It tends to make the results look better than they really are and exaggerate the skills of some of the drivers. Not that I'm downplaying her race or that I'm suggesting Sato had a right to punt her off . But it highlights a flaw in this series, at least when it comes to trying to compare drivers. Basically every race has featured some "amazing" drive from the back by one driver or another. And its always on pace cars alone.

There are some drivers with some real skill in this series, but Danica is mediocre at best (overall, if we just rated her based on ovals, shes good). I'd say only the top 4 drivers are really F1 material. Maybe drivers like Kanaan would be promising too though.

I just heard something guys that I don't know if i wanna believe but according to Curt Cavin of the Indianapolis Star, no race next year at Watkins Glen, Kansas or Homestead?

WTF???????

After watching the race last night I have to say its too dangerous. 20 openwheel cars in a tight pack going 210 mph through rather flat sharp turns?

And if one person makes a small mistake? They're in the catch fence?

And you mentioned in the NASCAR thread that F1 should run ovals? how would they be any different or less dangerous than IRL if they wreck?

It comes down to oval selection and the cars. If you race on the ovals that CART ran on in the 90s, flat tight 1 miles or big tracks like Indy or Michigan where the different levels of horsepower separated the cars the chance of the cars touching wheels goes down alot.

With the IRL, I guess they're trying to put on a great show, so they give these super high downforce light weight spec cars a puny 650 horsepower so they're stuck in packs on 1.5 mile NASCAR tracks

When CART ran on the ovals they had 950 horsepower, little wing. They actually had to drive the ovals instead of just floor it like they're doing now. Because of that there were no packs and the cars got separation from each other reducing the risk of contact.

The IRL is playing a very dangerous game right now. Sure, I guess you can say its entertaining, but the danger makes me sick. I probably wont watch again just because of that.

Something does need to be done about the safety of the cars. Each crash is a potential risk of back and/or neck injuries.

They aren't meant for the 1.5 mile tracks. I'm surprised they didn't learn that lesson after the tragic events at Charlotte Motor Speedway back in the late 90s.

Peak Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300 @ Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, Illinois, United States Race Results

Any crash on any track (whether it's an oval or road/street course) can potentially cause injuries. With that said, the current IndyCars are the safest IndyCars ever made yet for both the drivers and the fans. But danger will always be a part of racing and that danger is what attracts drivers and fans to motorsports. IndyCars put on great races on 1.5 mile ovals which has attracted hundreds of thousands of race fans to Texas Motor Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, and Twin Ring Motegi. Those ovals belong on the schedule just as much as the short ovals and 2.0 - 2.5 mile ovals.

IndyCar has and is always improving safety for both drivers and fans. Since 1999, all IndyCars must have wheel tethers to prevent wheels from flying into the stands during crashes because of what happened at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1999. The 2012 IndyCar safety cell is designed to prevent wheel to wheel contact. IndyCar and Dallara have improved the car without abandoning the hundreds of thousands of fans that enjoy IndyCar races at 1.5 mile ovals.

One year from tomorrow, they'll be racing around the Inner Harbor for the Baltimore GP and I heard during the race Kentucky Speedway will be on the 2011 IndyCar Series Schedule.

Speaking of which, that schedule will be released next Friday. :)

So up next is the series' only visit to Asia as they rock Twin Ring Motegi's Superspeedway. This, of course, was the venue for one Danica Sue Patrick winning her first (and sadly) only win. Motegi is really one of those "different" ovals. Motegi's oval is like a faster Gateway to me. It's a faster Gateway with a little more banking in the corners. Turns 3 and 4 of the oval are corners you HAVE to get right.

I think the race will be on September 18th at 11 PM EDT (meaning it will be about noon on Sunday in Japan). Bring on Motegi!

Motegi was wrapped up last night. Without giving away a winner, Danica did pretty well, finishing 5th. This was a lovely performance by the #7 car. However, it wasn't like Danica's awesome performance at Texas earlier this season. Some of you may laugh, but early in the race, Milka Duno was the biggest mover at one point by picking up six positions.

The championship winner will either be from Scotland (Dario Franchitti) or Australia (Will Power). So who'll take the title- the Scot or the Aussie? Onward to Homestead in two weeks time!

I remember being at the track to see Patrick do her thing. She looked really comfortable out there, and I'm sure if she sticks with it (fat chance, I know), she could be really great.

As for the championship, I think that it's Dario's to lose. I really like Power, but I think that Franchitti will take him over in Miami. Franchitti has seven straight top five finishes, and Power is a twisty guy, so I just don't see Dario losing this one.

3 time champion, happy days. I do feel sorry for Power though... leading the whole season long, only to lose it at the end. Typical Aussie luck. The Andrettis kept it interesting to the end. Worth staying up until 2am for.

Congrats Dario; too bad for Will Power ending a fantastic season that way, maybe he felt the pressure or he's still lacking that little bit on ovals, great driver though.

Dario did all he could except win the race. He got the points for pole and leading the most laps and that put maximum pressure on Will Power who hasn't won a race on an oval.

Did you see how close he came to getting taken out in Milka Duno's crash though! Are there any rules at all about who can take part in an Indycar race?

Milka Duno must idolize Ana Beatriz, because she crashed nearly identical to her. Hopefully she doesn't return next season. I believe she also caused front wing damage to Graham Rahal's car at some point in the race. It's a shame she was on probation by the series and they never did anything about her.

I was disappointed when Power had to retire from the race. Didn't want to see the championship end that easily.

I was mostly watching the Petit Le Mans, so I only saw the end of the race. I'm proud of my girl Danica Patrick on a lovely finish. It's her consistency and drive that makes her fun to watch for me. And with all due respect to Danica, when Danica moves on to NASCAR, Simona di Silvestro will be the new femme fatale in IndyCar. The Swiss racer has really earned my respect watching her race in this series. She's due for a win.

Congratulations to [the 2010 IndyCar Series champion]. Can't wait for the 2011 season, and especially what becomes of the 2012 season!

Thatwas my first Indy race. I don't know the sport too well, but I still enjoyed it. Though, it seems like EVERY commercial has Danica Patrick in it. They are marketing her too much. I really hate those Go-Daddy commercials.

That is because there is nobody else that is marketable.

Quick, someone give Watkins Glen a call and get that back on the schedule!

Yeah, going to be interesting to see the track at Baltimore. Not only has the schedule changed, but it looks like that there will be a number of drivers moving around.
