Helio had this one won. He blocked a little, I guess, but overall I don't think it's reason to move him to 10th. It's starting to be as bad as F1 when they were back in the all rules days, it's better now. I like Helio and I think it's wrong that he loses the race for that.

So this sort of move is illegal? how in the world can you then even race, seriously...

IZOD Indy rule 9.3(B) says that "a driver must not alter his/her racing line based upon the actions of pursuing drivers or use an abnormal racing line to inhibit or prevent passing".

So in my opinion, Helio violated this rule.

However, normally, such an infraction is ignored, unless its hugely blantant and the over-taking car is much faster.

Sure Helio blocked a little (he took the inside line to the corner so Will Power could not drive up inside of him, and then swung wide, back onto a more normal racing line once Will Power started to swing wide).

If you watch the replays' you can see the two Target cars in 3rd and 4th place are already very wide going thru this turn.

However, Helio did not swing back-and-forth across the track like some blocking maneuvers we have seen.

My feeling is that this technical rule violation should not have been used to determine the winner of the race. Some leeway in the rule should be allowed. I bet if we examined the racing lines for nearly every car in the race, we would see this rule violation nearly every time an over-taking car comes up behind a slower car if the car in front wants to maintain its track position, and the lead car is not already a lap down.

Consider the senario: Helio stays wide on the normal racing line, Will Power dives in tight at the corner and gets a slight lead. Power is fairly slow going thru the corner since he "squared it off", so he is now impeding Helio's race car. Helio has to brake more than he normally would going thru the corner so he doesn't hit the back end of Power's car.

Hasn't Will Power taken an "abnormal racing line" into the corner, which has "inhibited Helio from passing"?

So Will Power gets a drive-thru penalty and Helio wins the race!

Respectfully,
GTsail

I don't think Helio did anything wrong, he has every right to be upset with that call

Brian Barnhart did make the right call on Helio's "block." However, Brainless Barnhart's "blocking" rule is simply idiotic! Helio took a defensive line and held it giving Power room to race. Real blocking is chopping in front of other drivers or trying to drive them off the track. Brainless Barnhart has no business forcing leading drivers to take the outside line especially on a runway that's 200 feet wide! He already ruins starts/restarts with his idiotic start/restart rules and now he's ruining finishes. Randy Bernard needs to fire him and appoint Al Unser Jr. or Tony Cotman President of Competition.

Let me just use this space to do a little chatting. Danica Patrick is my favorite racer, but I really think Simona di Silvestro may eventually win her first race. The Swiss racer is very talented even back in her Atlantics days. In fact, I think di Silvestro did what Danica couldn't do in the Atlantics- win a race. Simona di Silvestro is one of those racers who I think is very much due for a win in the future.

Or if you want to start a discussion... what driver, which has never won an IndyCar Series race, is due to win his/her first race in IndyCar?

Marco Andretti is long overdue for a win, he hasn't won since his rookie season, besides Danica, he's the face of Andretti Autosport.

And that was a fuel mileage win.

He reminds me a bit of Montoya, win early in your rookie season on a fuel mileage race, the expectations sky rocket and you dont live up to them.

Marco is good enough to win an IRL race, but Andretti Autosport has been playing catchup to Penske and Ganassi for some time now

Indy rule 9.3(B) says that "a driver must not alter his/her racing line based upon the actions of pursuing drivers or use an abnormal racing line to inhibit or prevent passing".

To quote a rule stated in this post (and a quality post at that) the essence of racing involves aggressiveness that entails altering of a leading drivers' race line "within reason!" This call was absolute BS.:grumpy:👎

Andretti have been quite good this year, they're not to the level of Penske or Ganassi but they've been running better this year and have won a couple races.

One Milka Duno in a series like this is one too many mate. :)

I like Mid-Ohio. It might not be easy to pass there, but it's a nice track of the old design school.

I've had an excellent weekend of racing on Television and Broadband with ALMS on Saturday and DTM, BTCC and Indycars on Sunday.

Just the thought of her racing is way too much.

She very nearly took out Dario and Will in the same corner.

The twin 275's is a stupid idea - as I posted on the SPEED Report's facebook page it would have been better if the IndyCar and NASCAR sprint cup had a double header. IndyCar race on Saturday afternoon then the cup race Saturday night.

Wow, I don't know about this. It's the same amount of racing for the most part, so I really don't know what's so good about it. It just means that they can milk more time out of it, and there can be two winners.

I was hooked on IndyCar when I attended the race this last year though, so I'll witness it live next year.

Dracone and Duno slowest by a country mile in practice and qualifying...

Yeah... I do respect Milka Duno, but she is severely off pace in IndyCar. If you believe in demoting, you may well think of putting Milka in Indy Lights or something. You know, much like how MLB baseball players get sent down to Minor League teams to help them back up to form in the top tier league.

Sure be great to see who wins the final road course of this season. Will Power HAS to be a favorite. But after the road courses... who do you put your money on to win the title? Well, let's just worry about Infineon first, then worry about the four remaining races, all on ovals.

You would have won the jackpot had you made a bet.
It would have been a bet for the overall championship.

Milka Duno, goes down 3 laps by lap 15. How slow are her lap times to put her that many laps down in such a short time?

She wasn't that bad actually. She was ahead of Danica Patrick and someone else in the early stages and was black flagged because her radio wasn't working! That's how she lost that time.
