2010 Singapore Grand Prix

Erased. The previous post in this thread was from a ad-spammer (their post was erased by famine). I decided to delete my response to their post as well, as it was a bit out of the blue without reading their prior comments.

So, anyway. What happens if there's a powercut at Marina Bay? I imagine the drivers have all been briefed to stop immediately or something, since the trackside flag-light system won't work and they won't be able to see the marshalls' flags.

They all get a flashlight in their cars just before the race starts....:dopey:

spy.

I believe it's due to the limited room for run-off.

But the chicane is probably more dangerous. Although if the cars went side by side through the narrow bridge there could be a serious accident and they would have trouble getting the safety car through the wreckage. Why do they even bother going around that part of the track?

The original circuit design ran anti-clockwise and did not include the chicane. However, a part of the section around the SunTec City was cut out and the first section was added to increase the overall speed of the lap. The direction was reversed so that it became anti-clockwise so as to create the overtaking point down at turn seven. The problem is that the circuit now fed onto the Anderson Bridge, which is one of the narrowest pieces of road in the entire championship. An accident there would block the circuit and force the stoppage of the race. Since the Anderson Bridge is actually two bridges - two lanes going each way - it was impossible to widen it. The chicane was placed at turn ten in an attempt to force the cars to run in single file down to the hairpin after the bridge, and also to serve as a possible braking point. It's a small price to pay for an increased average lap speed since the original proposal was very fiddly.

Anything else but an Red Bull 1-2 in quali would be very surprising. To me it looks like they could be as dominant as on Hungaroring.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I thought I had heard about it being for a lack of run off, but I might've been misinformed.

Oh dear Ferrari. Massa joins the 3 new teams in going out in Q1. Alguersuari is doing a bit good!

I think he had an off moment that put him out of the session. The session was stopped for a little while.

Alonso on pole, Kobayashi makes Q3. The perfect qualifying session to a hopefully evenly awesome race tomorrow 👍

Massa had a gearbox problem, according to Ferrari.

Good qualifying session with a very exciting last 5 minutes. I'm pretty happy with the result.

Gearbox problem for Massa.

Was surprised with that qualifying. Closer than I thought it would be. The race should be good tomorrow. Any hopes of a Ferrari constructor title are gone with this Massa failure.

Another GP, another patronising and disrespectful comment about Schumi by that halfwit Johnathon Ledgard. How this fool got the commentary job I'll never know. He literally ruins every GP for me with his 🤬 commentary.

Webber, choking under pressure.
Hamilton, looking promising.
Senna, out of a job

Shame Vettel couldn't get a good lap going, Alonso managed to take it in the end. Hopefully tomorrow's race should be good and exciting. Kobayashi had a pretty epic qualifying run, same with Barrichello. Too bad about Hulkenberg and Massa but hopefully they'll be able to claw up positions during the race.

Well I'm sorry if I stir it up a bit but this qualifying session really showed the difference between a champion driver (Alonso) and one who is simply good (Vettel). Alonso kept his cool in Q2 although the engine mapping went wrong and set good times. In Q3 he then just drove two sessions right on the limit of the car but never over it while Vettel made a beginners error in his first session in Q3 by not keeping enough distance to the car in front at the start and in the second session he just tried too hard. The Red Bull is without a doubt a faster car around Singapore but there is just as little doubt who is the better driver.

Awesome result for Alonso at a very crucial point in the season - now he just needs to capatalize on his pole and win the race tommorow :) He really drove perfect during qualy and dealt with the cars electric issue without letting it faze him one bit. Seems like he's really put his head down and focused on maximizing his results (while keeping as calm and collected) in every session once he realized he was in that do or die position after Spa. Hopefully he can keep it up for the rest of the season, as well as the realiability of the F10.

If the race results end up looking something like the qualy results, the 5 (especially the 4 at the front) title contenders will be even closer in terms of the points spread.

Still amazed by that. That is what you call skill. We'll see if Alonso keep this up.

What did he say?

It's funny because Johnathon Legard disagrees with the timing. Vettel goes 3 thenths up. Legard= vettel is a tenth of a second faster.

Hmm...I think it's more of a display of what happens when Alonso stays cool instead of boiling under.
