A champion becomes a champion by fighting on all fronts. Fighting his opponents outside the team, outdriving his team-mate, and out-politicking him within the team. Schumi had several WDCs because he used every trick in the book (and a lot of tricks that aren't in the book) and basically ensured his team was built around him... Alonso won two because he was the same way.
At the end of the day... the guy whose team-mate pulls over to let past is in a position to demand that because he's been more consistent all season than the other or because he's built up the political pull to get the team to issue the order in his favor.
Of course, I hate team orders... but what can you do? It's impossible to completely remove them from the sport.

Alonso's engine problems may be the tipping point in his title aspirations... Ferrari has lost the Constructor's championship for sure at this point... they're likely to be putting every upgrade they've got towards Alonso's title push.
The problem Red Bull has is that their leading driver is their slower one (I know, I know, it's been debated, but Vettel is simply faster in terms of raw pace) and their quicker driver is just too unpredictable.
Avoiding any more DNFs, Lewis has a great chance of winning the championship. But at this point, the top five are so close that a DNF for any driver can spell the end of his title push.
Which means... Button will win it.
I have a guilty pleasure of hoping Hamilton never wins a title again so he can be remembered as a one hit wonder who had a fast car and nothing more
That's not fair, Jenson is a great driver! Oh... you weren't talking about Brawn GP? Carry on...
