What cars have impressed you by being a lot better than you expected

Or been a lot worse than you hoped

Write a little story of how it surprised you if you like

Me first, the Toyota FT 86 surprised me, I looked at the power, and it had 220 HP I think. But I still go to see how it was expecting it to be slow on the straights and good but boring turning which hugs the road for dear life. HOW WRONG WAS I, it was really fast, and was very driftable, the best Toyota I've ever driven by a country mile

Now, what disappointed me, hmmmm. The Ferrari California, I guessed it would be fun, and would drift. But it was the most dull cornering I've done in awhile, slow and very grippy. If it's slow in the turns, they could at least make it drift to make it seem better.

GT-R SpecV. That car makes me feel like I'm playing Ridge Racer, and I mean that in the best possible way.

VW W12 Nardo.
It behave more well than i expected to be.
Long body means hard to control while cornering but it handle well. :D

I saw there was a Lupo race, and was like, UGH. But when I started I had a ton of fun driving that little thing on Nordschleife. That car handles pretty great and is pretty swift.

The R35 GT-R's, the Elise 111R RM and lately the Mazda RX-8 Type S '07 and Honda Integra DC5 '04.

Honestly, I was surprised a bit by how well the NASCARs actually handle, although afterword I thought to myself that it really shouldn't have surprised me on account of them still being purpose-built race cars rather than actual stock cars. Sure, they're still primitive compared to most other purpose-built race cars, but they're still race cars and going to handle better than anything (or at least virtually anything) you can buy at a dealership.

Whenever you listen to your NASCAR buddies worshiping their golden calves they'll go on about how much friggin' skill it takes to drive in a giant circle just because the things weigh two tons. They're impressed all to hell and back by the fact that they're driving two-ton cars like Jesus himself couldn't pull that off and these guys must have some Charlie Sheen in them just to complete a single lap. On and on you hear about how borderline-impossible they are to manage, and then you hop into one and they're actually very manageable.

This doesn't apply to me since I knew better, but there really should be lots of folks coming in here confessing their disappointments with the Bugatti Veyron. I can't even guess at how many topics and posts I've read all over the Internet about the world's ultimate troll car, with all the endless, unwarranted praise based solely on its spec sheets without anybody having actually compared its real-world track performance against other high-end cars. I knew from my experience with the cyborpig in FM3 that the Veyron was an over-powered joke and told the GT community as much, but the worship just kept coming. Once these folks finally got their virtual Veyrons, finally the boards started seeing the textual tears from folks let down by their tin god.

The VW Nardo - Surprisingly, it handles quite well and can easily hold its own in online racing (I have 2 of them)

AMG Mercedes Benz 190E Evolution II Touring Car - An amazing piece of work this car. I never expected it to be so damn good on handling but it just is. Just a tad on the oversteering side and that's it. Beautiful chassis. Brilliant on the 'Ring

Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V5 TI Race Car - Dunno, I just didn't expect it to be that good.

Well i was very dissapointed, after tuning my F40, and enzo for that matter, i hate how they handle, after you tune them. I was a little surprised with the....um, nothing yet.

I think the Alfa Giulia TZ2 was probably the car that surprised me the most. It handles with absolute perfection to me on the road, and while it isn't super speedy, it just feels really pleasant and so easy to drive.

I agree with your Veyron stuff, but didn't want to mention it because that's what everyone says. :indiff:

Caterham Fireblade, I expected it to not go over 90, now I have lots of fun going no brakes with extreme downforce at the Nords :D

Honda CRX I thought it would be okay, butfeels like a race car albeit a slow one picked up for pennies from the UCD.

Civic type R '08 I thought it would be a dull slow car but it had awesome handling would beat evo's and STI's that are mildly tuned :)

The Cizeta V16T surprised me since I saw some people bad mouthing it on the "terrible handling" thread. The other day I busted out the one I got as a prize car ages ago and never drove and I gotta say I think it is a lot of fun to drive, easier to handle and much faster than the Yellowbird. If you are lazy and try to drive it like other cars it feels like the weight dist. is like 80% at the rear but if you are patient and careful (and it sounds like about 2% of the people that play this game are) it's a really rewarding car to drive and surprisingly fast. I don't think it's much harder to drive than say a McLaren F1 (I'm not comparing their handling I only mean how much attention they require). I like how it sounds I like how it looks and I like the fact that it's got a V16! I've got two of them now!

I was very suprised of the Veyron. First, it was brilliant, then it was brilliant in the negative. way.
I bought yesterday a Suzuki Escudo Dirt Trial Car. It was a huge dissapointment.
It couldn't go over 315 KPH, even if it was tuned. I feel still bad for the 2 million.:ouch:

Cizeta V16T also suprised me, but in the good way. It was way better than I thought.
Also Jaguar E-type coupe suprised me, because it simply was so fun to drive an drift.:)

^^So true, so true.

Recently the Integra DC5 Type R and 2008 Civic Type R. Integra currently running 398hp and Civic at 413, I never thought either would be as quick or as good handling (for a fwd) as they both are.

I highly recommend these cars to anyone looking for a cheapish but massively fun car. The Civic fully modified (with soft racing tyres) will easily beat the Enzo on Monza.

Ford GT understeered much more than i expected and was a lot more easier to drive than the car in GT5:Prologue

Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spec C. This car is on both of end of the scale for me. When it's fully tuned, it's very tail happy. I regretted tuning it so much that I ended up buying another and leaving it stock. Now, it's one of the best cars that I've driven.

I was surprised/impressed by the handling of the BMW 2002 Turbo. When fully upgraded, it can easily outmaneuver supercars that should be able to blow it away, like the McLaren F1. And while drifting around corners! Not sure if that's close to realistic... O_o

Yeah I found the BMW 2002 to be quite a good car too actually. I was very surprised by that for it's age too! Epic little machine.

Lexus IS-F. When I saw the way the car handled at Nurburgring it was like WOW!!!

The Jaguar S-TYPE R '02, got it because of the Top Gear episode, when Jeremy takes it around in under 10 minutes. Surprised me a lot. The other cars around the same BHP for some reason felt slow after I had raced a bit in the faster race cars. But this one seemed different, I loved the way it handled and felt to drive.

After driving this, I raced/drove a lot more lower BHP cars, and it was awesome. Thank you Jaguar S-TYPE R '02. :dopey:

The f60, this car is virtually flawless and can easily challenge any hypercar.
But my bob has something against my SLR Mclaren which i cant understand.

Really?? Challenge accepted. One question, what tyres is enzo allowed? Racing aswell?

F60?....enzo?

I very much agree with the 08 Civic completely modified, really is a great car for so cheap.

I'm also liking the 87 mugen motul civic. Good for a variety of events and believe it was a prize car along the way.

Just a couple lowely cars that suprised me.

Well I wasn't trying to offend Ferrari fans or anything, and I used sports tyres on the Ferrari and with stock power, but I managed to beat my own personal time which for me felt good and I'll be honest I'm not the best driver around.

But to settle it fairly, I will set a time in the Enzo using Soft Slicks and see how I go.

Guess I should have thought of that but I just thought being a Ferrari with over 600 hp it would be fast no matter what tyre.
