What ever happened to winning big money in the seasonal races ? You would come in first and not only win the first place prize money but then you would win the cash prizes for second to fifth or sixth places also.

That was when the seasonals were a one shot deal. Now you can do them as often as you like and still get rewarded, the rewards are less.

Those are called Bonus Races and were one time big payout wins, but the other series (ie. Challenges) have always been repeatable at lower payouts. There hasn't been a format change other than they have appeared to have dropped Bonus Races for the past months.

Why drop a good thing ? I could of bought the Ferrari indy car if they were still giving that kind of money out. That's the only challenge I haven't completed.

Interesting. Tell me more...

They were probably dropped in the first place because people were whining that it made it all too easy to earn big bucks with very little effort.

You're able to win alot more money doing the newer Seasonals that you could with the older ones seeing as you can repeat each race any number of times.

The only aspect of the older Seasonal Bonus Races that I miss is the large amount of XP rewarded for winning each race. The main reason why the early Bonus Races had such large XP rewards was to help people who were struggling to levels up, but this isn't really a problem for now as many people have reached the highest level attainable in A-Spec.

Could HAVE. I hate doing grammar police stuff but that sort of rubbish annoys me. Earn the money you need instead of hoping PD give you loads of cash just cos you moaned.

Ferrari Indy???? I thought they only did proper racing.

Those were sweet, but only one time! That was good though....winning like $2 mill all at once!!!

Actually the very first Bonus Races were far from caricative. They were real challenges compared to the ever repeated dullness of the following bonus races and seasonals. Those races realy lost any form of novelty and excitement when they droped the hard limits to the cars. Its just not fun to try and find the exact car/setup to challenge yourself with those races.

Oh snap, here it comes...

I kid I kid!!!
I am american and DON'T follow nascar or indy.
I follow f1, American LeMans, Rolex, DTM, and FIA. Its not rare for americans not to watch nascar.
ok no more stereotyping

America?
Open wheel = indycar

Indycar = open wheel ...just like F1, but Indycars also features stuff like "passing" and "racing" - stuff not seen in F1 in years. Now excuse me while I watch the first turn of the latest F1 race then fast forward 50 some odd laps to the end, because you know nothing interesting is going to happen inbetween!

Agree. I am not sure why everyone thinks all Americans watch NASCAR....

....everyone knows us 'mericans have a short attention span. Gosh durn it, howse you 'xpect us to watch all 4 hours of them there danged jalopies racin' 'round!

:-)

Did you be watching this year Chinese F1 race there are more passing.

It´s an endless discussion, I was just joking about it...
I love car racing, I like F1, Indy, F3, Nascar, Rally and everything with four wheels...

PD: And if haves only 2 wheels it's interesting too :D

The fun that I had with the Lamborghini seasonals using a mostly-stock Countach 25th Anniversary must not have actually existed then.

Though I'm sure you will be able to explain why PD are better able to determine what is fun for me than I am.

Honestly - no. I watched the first lap and the last. I fast forwarded through the rest. I usually watch on some of the more historic tracks - these built for F1 in the past few years tracks are boring, in my opinion. They all seem generic.

It is really hard to believe Rally hasn't caught on more in the US, as it is incredible to watch. Touring cars as well - nothing is more action packed. NASCAR would actually be fun to watch if they weren't 17 hours and 8000 miles long, plus they need to get back to cars that actually look like their street counterparts.

But to be honest, I'd rather spend the time I'd be watching a race on TV with playing Shift 2, GT5, Forza 3, and soon Dirt 3. It is more fun doing than watching!

Back on topic (sorta) - I haven't really paid attention to any of the new seasonal events since PSN came back up. I didn't play GT5 for the last month and don't seem to miss it much. I used to wait eagerly every week to see the new seasonal events, but now Shift 2 and Autolog call my name and GT5 collects dust.

The regular events are plenty, but I still welcome the bonus events with the big payouts. Except, that those big payout events have an expiration date just like before. The regular ones stay the same. They'd still only be a one-shot deal. That could work.

As for the Ferrari 'Indy'... they did actually build one for CART. The 637. :sly:

As far as the bonus races go, i'm willing to bet the majority of people couldn't come anywhere close to winning, and that's why the format changed. If you remember there were a few bonus races towards the end that had no modification limit and still had the big payout.

Watch it again, all the way through. I got very bored of F1 from about 1995 to 2007 or whenever it was that Hamilton came into it and Schumi retired. Hamilton shook it up, and made it a bit more interesting for us Brits. But this year has been a revelation. Even the Spanish GP last week was pretty good and that is usually an awful race.

Oddly the first lap has now become less exciting in F1 as the drivers know they have a decent chance of passing later on, and are less desperate to get through on the first lap / corner.

Couldn't agree more about rallying and Touring Cars! I will reserve judgement on NASCAR because I have not managed to immerse myself into it and watch it with a real fan who understands it. In the same way I will reserve judgement on all American sports until I am educated in their intricacies, rather than being an uneducated person spouting worthless opinions on something I know nothing about (like a lot of people you meet on forums).

Teach me about baseball and I will try to teach you about cricket!!!

My only gripe with Nascar is the forced artificiality of the end of the race's excitement. They will almost always bunch the field up, and the car that was the fastest through what seems like an endurance race has almost no chance of winning.

Take the average speed of all green flag laps, and the fastest car will often finish far from first because it's just mythical race. The real race is a three lap sprint, and the rest of the event is a stage for advertising and nothing more.

If we're talking about 200 mph sedans, I have no illusions that they can't be stock. I wouldn't enjoy a race of Camrys and Impalas in stock. So fine, it's spec cars, all nearly identical. But if you have a 500 mile race, that's endurance, and it's lame that I know the race will not benefit the best endurance team's performance. You're crazy not to set up your car for a little three lap 'showdown'. Boogity.

Otherwise, I really enjoy oval racing. It's a real test of setup and patience and skill. All these Nascar drivers who actually win at the top level have tremendous talent on par with WRC or F1 winners. It's not their fault the sport is rigged for fake excitement.

I have won untold sums of credit on the Lamborghini challenge, all the while driving one of my favorite marques. Do I get tired of grinding? Yep, then I do the Lightweight cup a few times to break it up :dopey:. These seasonals are the only thing that keeps me playing the game now.

Relative opinion is relative.

Its really not. I know what is fun for me more than you do. I know what is fun for me more than Kaz does. That isn't even an opinion. That is the way it is.

So when someone blankets that it isn't fun unless everyone is told what is fun, I kinda take issue with that. Especially when they are the ones imposing things on me, and not the other way around.

I like what they have now, rather than be limited to a certain xp/cash gain, I can do them as many (or few) times as I like. :)
