Rims

I think I'd have a fit if they put spinner-style rims in there - they don't belong on race/sports cars!

Hey, and don't forget, GT4 should have proper chrome effects on chrome rims now.

There is hope on having good chrome/polish effect on GT4´s wheels, as the Trial Toyota Celica from GT4P (the red one with graphics on its side) has them properly reproduced, together with ultra low profile tires.

Well asides for more rims, I'd like to see some of the rims affect your car, like if you have big chrome rims, they would obviously slow ya down just a bit, and if you got super light racing rims, they'd gain you an extra tenth on your time here or there.

Yea true that, like have more variety of Chrome rims, Alloy rims, and alote of flashy rims such has white rims, gun metal, etc.... Because a nice red car with white rims would look really nice, heck pretty much any color would look nice with white rims, blue, red, yellow, green etc... Well I just hope we have alot of variety, being able to change the size, diffrent types of tires, for rally tires maybe diffrent types of threads that obviously effect the car.. I know they said theres going to be alot more upgradeable things than previous GT games so hopefully they go all out from replaceing specific parts and not so general etc.. and the same with rims... Let the weight material etc.. effect the car/gameplay to the fullest....

No, it wont. Kaz said in an interview/article that the rims will change the handling of your vehicle. Rotational mass will come into play, so don't expect to see the same wheel feature of GT3. Not only that, but classic wheel designs from the past might make into to the game.

My bad, so rims will actually be different weights?

I don't know so this goes out to anyone into rims - just how different are the weight of rims in the real world most of the time? What sort of variations do you get and what sort of handling characteristic change could they impose?

Switching to a lighter racing rim, which is often made of magnesium, improves acceleration, braking and handling of the vehicle. Less mass, means less weight, means less rotational inertia. Remember, the only thing really making the car move at all are the wheels. The lighter you make them, the faster they can spin when supplied with power, because of the reduced strain on the engine. And the lighter they are, the faster they will stop, when you add braking force.

I'm not sure how PD is going to implement this into the game, though. There is so many way they can go about doing this. Do they include different size rims? Which means switching to a lower profile tire, because if you don't, you just might be adding more rotational mass to the wheel, instead of lowering it. Do they include a gauge for viewing the weight, and the rotational force of the wheel? Or do we use the new G Force meter and test driving the vehicle to see if the new wheel improves performance?

I hope they include som MT ET Street tyres (kinda lag drag radials) into the game this time around. So you wont have the Supra or another superhighpowered car spinning the tyres frequently in 4th gear. I haven't been able to get under 11s on 402m with the Supra yet. Pisses me off :)
Hi everyone btw, kinda new here although I love the GT series, I have them all except the first one :/

Take care! /Made

smaller wheels=quicker acceleration, slower top speed, generally lighter, cannot house the biggest brakes, but require less effort to slow than bigger ones.
bigger wheels=slower acceleration, faster top speed, generally heavier, can house bigger, more powerful brakes.

This could come into play as well, depending on the car's configuration and the track raced on (for example one with fast sweepers and long straights, or a tight track with little straights and twisty curves requiring lots of braking.)

something to think about.

Welcome to GTPlanet Made. Enjoy your stay.

So based off what kinigitt and SL have said, the ideal solution is big but light wheels?

I don't understand mob movies (I'm not really a fan of them), but "welcome to GTP" to the made man here.

So anyhow, I heard rumors of Kazunori and his merry men and women were thinking of simulating every aspect of the car. Everything from suspensions, headers, tires, and stuff like that. I normally think that a lightweight wheel would improve and enhance handling and lightening weight. Of course, I'm never the very technical type. I'm more of "tell it like it is even if they loathe you." But I know one thing. You can forget about them "dope ass rims" like all the lowriders and mods have. Some of the show wheels make for stylish looks, whether chromed or painted. In Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, you can have wheels in whatever color you want from the list. First, you had to choose the outer color, then you can choose the inner part of the wheels. So you can have red outsides and black inner parts of the wheel, much like some older cars. But as far as GT4 goes, the most of style you're going to get is in the form of functional wheels. Whether it is bicycle spokes, a 16-spoke touring car wheel set, or those 3-spoke wheels, it's pretty much about function.

So, it would be interesting if my favorite wheel designs will be light enough to still make my car perform. Unless PD comes up with a hidden tuner car or lowrider with wheels you can purchase (even if you can see your shoes or face on them), that would be surprising. Don't bet on it, though. Well, note that I've said "wheels" rather than "rims," but I think they still mean the same thing. Right?

Wheels often can greatly increase or decrease a cars appearance. You can take a $1,000 dollar set of wheels and slap them on a run down piece of junk car and the wheels will instantly make the car look better. I hope that we have at least as many wheel selections at GT2, there was lots of variety.
GT3 wheel selection is fairly limited. Now here is a question for you all to ponder upon.

In GT2 you had to buy a set of wheels for each car, In GT3 you buy one set of wheels and then use them on any car. GT2 method is more realistic. Which way should GT4 be ?

Can you do anytype of tuning in the concept versions or GT4P ? if so wheel changes ? is so how do they work ? Personally since usually earning cash is fairly easily, I would think that the more things we spend money on the better and more real the game would be. Like for instance maybe have tires slightly cheaper, but you have to purchase a new set every time they burn up. Or you can keep tires in stock for each car, maybe you by 4 sets of tires or more if you drive that car alot. Anyway with photo shoot mode, and hopefully lots of things to change car apperance, users can have alot of fun seeing which parts look best ( and hopeully with paintshop ) even color.

Well i didnt read this thread too good but its about rims... :D well, on teh topic of 2d/3d rims -> did anyone noticed in GT4P when you pick Suzuki Alto Works that car have 3d alloys in any race... weird eh? I really dunno what to think and y' know what they look rather good even if spinning (someone noted that 2d ones look better spinning than 3d ones)

So whaddaja think about it? Maybe there will be 3d rims for all cars in refined Gt4 engine...

I think we should be able to choose different rim and tire sizes because some cars came with small rims. We should be able to choose rim height depending on the vehicles.

Are you sure about this? It doesn't make much sense and I've never noticed it, but I'll give you the benefict of the doubt. ;)

Meanwhile I'll check on that when I can.

Good work on searching and not creating a new topic! Kudos to you! BTW welcome to GTP!

[on-topic] 3d rims on all cars in GT4, although it is extremly indifferent to me..

The idea of fitting bigger rims is you fit a lower profile tyre to keep the outside diameter equal to the previous wheel/trye combo. This keeps your gearing the same so top speed and acceleration are kept fairly equal.
The lower profile tyre improves road holding and generally has higher levels of grip due to the sidewalls not flexing as much as the taller tyre.
Bigger Wheels allow the fitting of bigger brakes which improves stopping distances and fade.
Normally the bigger wheel tyre package is engineered to be lighter than the wheels/ tyres being replaced. This improves unsprung mass which is also important for improved handling.
In GT1 the tyres and wheel sizes went +1 when a Racing mod was done. The tyre data was deleted in GT2 and 3.
If you do not know what plus one means I suggest you go talk to your local tyre shop.
But put simply if my road car has 14 inch wheels and 75 aspec ratio tyres which are 185 wide and I want to fit a wider lower profile tyre I can go +1, +2 etc.
+1 means I fit a 15 inch wheel and a 65 aspec ratio tyre which is 205 wide. (aspec ratio is the ratio between side wall height and tread width.)
+2 means I fit a 16 inch wheel and a 55 aspec ratio tyre which is 225 wide.
The outside diameter (Rolling Diameter) remains the same for all cases which means the cars gearing is unchanged and the Speedo does not need recalibrating.

I like wheels.Especially chrome. This is a bit of topic but howcome you can never get a blue Viper with white stripes?that is the coolest colour Viper and most popular around my nabourhood.

I think messing around with wheel sizes and tyre dimentions could really complicate things, especially if they have a system like GT3's where you buy a wheel and can fit it to any car you own. Not only do all cars have different size wheels, obviously, but they mostly have differing 'off-sets' as well.

The talk of 'wheel weights' is quite interesting, Unsprung weight can make a real difference to a cars handling, which is why racing cars, even when they have a minimum weight regulation would rather have lightweight magneseum wheels and run with some lead weights elsewhere on the car, than have heavyer alloy wheels and no lead weights.

I really can't figure out the American obsession with 'chromed' alloys - they are so bling

Has anybody seen the selection of wheels on juiced? It looks like it is going to have a rather impresive line up of mags.

There are several cars with 3D wheels in GT4. We´ve all seen the Paris track replay with the Alpine A110, and that car has some nice 3D wheels, right?

Concerning different tire/wheel sizes, I am also in favour of it. Being able to use wider rear tires/wheels on a RWD car is a must.

I pesonally don´t like chrome rims, but I´d love to see some polished aluminum ones such as the BBS LM, OZ Superleggera III, etc.

In GT4:Prologue the Blue with white stripes Viper has returned... therefore expect it to come to the full game too!

Has it? - i thought Prologues Vipers were either silver with blue stripes, black with silver stripes or red with white stripes? - i must check this at some point.
