Rims

When I first seen this topic, I thought was a "n00b-a-licious" crime of not searching before making a topic. But as I checked, this was indeed an old thread. So I canned any chances of saying that. While I'm watching WRC Highlights from Argentina done by the wonderful Bob Varsha, I made a topic called "Do You Care About Little Details?" And in that topic, I mentioned rims. But if you ask me, so what if the rims don't look all that nice? They didn't mean a damn thing in GT2 and GT3 so why now? No offense, but I think people complain too much about the rims. But, if you want more talk about the rims and other details, reply to the thread I mentioned earlier in this thread.

By the way, I came across a thread days or weeks ago, and I updated it while Le Mans was running. Take a look at this thread and the car featured:

NOW how are the rims? I don't know about you, but in GT3, wheel options seemed to be pretty limited. Sometimes, I color-coordinate. For example, the with red and white Denso Supra, I like red tires. I normally prefer 16-spoke Touring Car-style tires, but a 5 or 6 spoke wheel in red is very suitable for that Supra. I think it's a nice car, but I kind of see it as a GT car girls would race. I know JPOP female artists, but not any Japanese female racers (no, the girls in R: Racing Evolution are fantasy, so they don't count). Anyhow, each car kind of has the perfect set of wheels and the proper color so that they don't look ugly as non-coordinating. When I think of ladies' fashion, there is often the combination of top, bottom, accessory/accessories, and proper shoes. So, I kind of look for more variety and unique designs.

They didn't mean a damn thing in GT2 and GT3 so why now?

Well now they do mean something, according to what got posted on the first page of this thread, there will actually be a performance difference to be noticed.

I too tried to colour coordinate rims but never found anything I liked and hence never changed the rims on a car. Comparing it to women's fashion? Uh you're up too late again dude.

Maybe they should take out some of the ****ty rice burner wheels and toss in some american racing or Weld wheels. Draglites, Prostars, Alumastars etc. Or at least allow a realistic interchange with the stock wheels between cars.

Well, I was speaking more along the common issue of them being in 2D, Eagle. And as far as women's fashion is concerned, it's one of my specialties. You know, I kind of follow that, I'm actually a fashion admirer. Up too late? Not a problem. Worry not.

That's what I was talking about with the wheels issue. I already read about the weight of the wheels and how they matter. Just that, they shouldn't be a big problem all the time. There are, as I said, plenty of wheel choices and wheel manufacturers. And I think Enkei has much more than the two they offer. Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero had the best setup in my view. You can choose a tire, have it in either plastic or chrome, paint the outside and inside of the wheel, and go off. TXR3 kind of limited that, and selection wasn't all that much good. I think in TXR Zero, the leader to the gang "Geschelshaft" (or however you spell it, Sociology students) had basically no real spokes. It was just a spokeless set of wheels that didn't even show the brake rotors. If you played through the game, you know what I'm talking about.

I just hope there will be enough wheels to make ANY car look stylish. And hopefully you can paint them to custom fit your car colors. I'm sure any active or soon-to-be active GTPlanet ladies would comment on my analogy to proper wheels and ladies' fashion. In off-topic stuff, I'll be sure to watch that "Fifth Gear" show on Speed Channel later tonight. One of my new favorite car shows. Any replies?

2. The game isnt realistic enough (no game will ever be) to feel the difference between different width tyres for a given rim. For instance, you'd have to be a race car driver to notice the difference between a 245 and a 255 tyre in real life! No game is realistic enough to even feel the difference between say a 225 and a 255 because its missing the 'seat-off-the-pants' element which is needed.

If its enough to shave a half-second off your lap time, or give you 2 extra MPH out of a corner, you'll notice a difference in a close race.

Also, what about exhaust? Can you feel the 10 hp gain in real life? What about in the game? No? Does that mean it shouldn't be in there?

My real-life car was about a full second quicker in the 1/4 mile from the time I bought it `till I got rid of it, and it never really felt much faster - even though a second in the 1/4 mile is about 10 car lengths. (at that speed at least). Its when you look at the clock, or see your competitors fall back, that you are able to see a point of reference for your performance gains.

And yes, the watanabe is pretty much a copy of the minilights but it can be questioned which one came first. Ideal for most old cars and look awesome on newer cars too.

Minilite - the original since early 60's

i think rims should remain, but i like the idea of also have performance effects on the car, not just asthetics.

and for the inclusion/exclusion of styles... i say the more the better... just as with cars/tracks/tuning options/races/etc... i want that DVD busting at the seams. ;)

Doesn't the Mustang SVT Cobra already have a good chrome effect on its wheels?

And the main reason i want better and more rim styles is because they took away my precious Racing Modification.

I really don't want to drive a Tommi Rally Evolution with those hideous wire rims.

I imagine there'll probably be a pretty sufficient selection of rims. As for painting them, well, NFSU had it, perhaps the Paint Shop will provide.

Maybe the rims selection in GT3 didn't make sense but it did give you a great selection of rims. I don't see why people would like to have more rims? I mean if you've got a choice of 150+ different rims per car, there's got to be at least one that you like...

Where does this come from?

Nevermind my question... :dunce:

The "per car" deceived me. Sorry.

I think the rims should have more of an effect on the car than they did in GT3 and not just visual. You should be able to choose from different composite materials and alloys for the rims you buy. But having showy "pimp" rims would be a mistake.

I always thought the 'changing wheels' section in GT2 & GT3 were a little 'ricey' - i like the idea of selecting different racing wheels - especially when running a fully tuned car, it would be an obvious step. But some of those 'rims' available are just 'rice-city' - an allyway i hope GT4 doesn't venture down.

It would look a little "ricey" to have spinners on an F1 car. That's why those kind of rims shouldnt be included.
