I'm with you, I remember an event called the road race of champions. Every driver got handed the exact same car, and no they didn't get to monkey with it. With the exception of being dropped from 10 ft up, I can't recall taking anybody out at the start, or the first corner. I have been in the position to witness 2 or 3 cars passing me in the first corner, (as I'm right on the tail of the guy in front of me) and proceeding to stuff their cars into the bunch. Which usually benefits me as I pick my way thru the carnage, and advance 6 or 7 positions.Exactly.
While I'm in a 'feedback' mood: not sure I'm real hip on the track announcement idea. Just because - while everyone may 'be on' during the week, driver A might be on for 20 hours and driver B for 3. It still tilts the balance and detracts a bit from the concept and 'simulated realism' of everybody showing up to the track on the same day. However knowing and practicing with the car on various tracks 'should' be enough to insure clean racing.
On a personal note I feel if we know the track and car, now I feel obligated to practice that particular combo for Monday to have a competitive chance and it makes the whole process almost a 'job' instead of just showing up to have fun.
Just my .02 coconuts.
I call it the public room strategy. I don't bother to put in great qualifying lap. It takes me a couple laps to find my rhythm anyway. That way my car stays race able, and I don't care if I win. As long as I battle with an equally skilled driver, I'm having a blast.
