ANNOUNCEMENT

I know this will please a few of you! Mostly because of the change in tuning, and Live Track, we have decided that we will start announcing the track each week from here on in. Also, our original thinking was that for the guys that couldn't practice much, by not knowing the track would help them out. But we have noticed that most of you are on during the week so that is really not applicable to most now. This should also help in cleaner racing as there won't be the excuse of I didn't know the track. We can all still improve our driving at the start as there are still too many incidents in the first few corners, and with the races being the length they are, there is no reason to try and win the race on the first lap!

Once the car vote deadline has past, the track will be announced within a day. We will still keep weather decisions unknown until race night. But as most of you have figured out by now, if it is not a multiple layout track, then you can expect some inclement conditions :D

Jeez, pick on Lobban day, I must have missed that announcement. Lol. I can hardly wait for two rooms so I can race with guys my own caliber again. We seem to have strayed from our original intention of having a lounge for wankers like me who are not "expert" racers. Yeah, I make mistakes, just like everyone else in here, so leave me alone, I am very sensitive. Red, I was up to a B rating at one point.

GR8Flakes..............bite me........
No really........bite me......
No really really, I don't think anyone was trying to ignore your suggestion, I know I didn't hear it. We did learn something though, not to do it again. It's all Steve's fault.

Thank you so much for this decision. Never did quite like the withholding of the track thingy. I think this is a positive move onwards. Cheers.

Haha......I was thinking of you when I wrote that first sentence!

So I have been watching some reviews on GTS, they are positive for the most part, but all have said it doesn't hold up to the competition as far as car physics and sound goes. They all rate the graphics highly. But I didn't realize that GTS only has six real world tracks, what's with that! Even with 17 locations I could see getting bored really fast.
For comparison:
Pcars2 - 60 locations, 46 real, 146 variations
GTS - 17 locations, 6 real, 40 variations

Uhh, yup. I didn't realize it until I owned the disc. I'm like... WTF am I going to do with this? Seriously, the physics are a step up from what they were, but not up to "our" standards. The game is still fun, and I would recommend it to somebody that has a wheel because it's a fifty dollar way to get some more use out of your wheel. I don't love it, I don't hate it. But... remember all those real world tracks we used to race on? Gone? WTF?

And Steve, Mike says pay attention from now on!

I'm sure there will be plenty of new tracks released via DLC. Remember Spa wasnt released with GT5, it eventually became DLC. I'm not a big fan of the nickel and diming, but its better than not having them at all

Car sounds in GTS

I think they improved the sounds on the new cars, however on the old cars (like the SLS Gr4) it is the same old washing machine base sound of GT6 with the added high pitch sound when you lift the throttle and maybe improved gear change sound....

Even though there is no club lobbies and that you can't lock tuning and no qually, you have the following start options:
- Set by host (no more reading out and lining up and keeping your position)
- Fastest
- By previous results
- Reverse by previous results
That is a good base set-up for any organized group

Then, you can go back to the results page and get the data and save the replay post race.

The driving itself - I think PCars is a few steps ahead. I think PCars is more difficult, but even without ever been in a race car, my imagination says it is more "real".

It woulda been so nice to put the PC2 driving experience in a GTS lobby.....

Sounds like you've made your mind up already without playing it ;) The demo doesnt count.
I made up my mind the minute I realized that car physics and sounds were still inferior, and to be honest, there was never any indication it was going to be better. The only reason that I would have considered getting GTS is to go back to Sunday night SNAIL, but Sunday nights are pretty much out for me these days. Marcus Garvey hit the nail on the head when he said to think about who the target audience really is for the GT franchise, and we are not it. I believe that so many have such a strong allegiance to GT that they have to keep buying the product no matter.

The above is just my opinion, and I hope all who have the game enjoy it. I hope it works for Sunday nights and that a lot of people get reunited to race together again. Both GTS and Pcars2 will only get better with updates and DLC, but I'm sticking with the one that really is much closer to "The Real Driving Simulator".

@Rednose58 "It woulda been so nice to put the PC2 driving experience in a GTS lobby....."

I totally agree with that, I think that's what most were hoping for. Then just add the track and car choices and it would have been close to perfect!

Oh, there's no question which one is a driving simulator, and which one isn't. But, to truly simulate, you need to.... What's that Honey, oh, sorry guys I gotta go. I'll finish my thought later.

Cheers bro. Y'all are the best.

About GTsport. I'd pre-order it and slowly getting into it. And yeah, the reviews have been pretty positive thus far. The first thing that impressed me was how impressive the visuals are, really sharp and rich in colour. It has me literally spellbound every time.
The next to impress me was how well the wheel handled, FFB and cars stability thus far. It was plug and play from the get go. I haven't seen any options to calibrate the wheel and adjust settings, all I know is that my wheel (G29) was already listed in the wheels and probably auto-detected. There were no issues about FFB and having to adjust wheel settings like Pcars2 which were basically a pain in the you know what.

I've started off basically from the beginning in the driving school category in order to progress and unlock stuff and half way through right now so I'm continuing like that. I've experienced no bugs or issues with car handling, saving and other multitude of bugs we were faced with and still experiencing with Pcars2. So I would say so far so good.

I have dabbled in GTS the last couple of days. It really is a nice looking game. And I mean really nice looking. It drives pretty well...not as detailed through the wheel and brakes as PCars but it's very drivable and still fun.

After having it a couple days (remember I sold my PS3 when PCars came out) here are a few things I really missed in PCars...a real photo mode, being able to paint the cars etc, a real replay mode, being able to change cars while in the lobby (sooo nice) and a couple of other minor details. Everything in GTS interface and actual game is so polished and beautiful.

I do believe they will add tracks and cars and tuning prohib eventually.

Sounds are better than GT6 but not as good as PCars.

I really want PCars 2 to fix the tuning prohibited bugs then I might grab it. Love the actual driving of PCars, the cars, the sounds, the tracks...hate the interface and bugs.

If they could only cross the two games into one mighty game.

I will keep watch on the bug fixes and patches and when they fix the ones I want fixed then I'll probably pick it up again. Until then I think we are going to revive the Drivetrain Challenge in GTS and have some fun that way.

I don't practice before race night...I'm in too many leagues. Mama bear is pretty patient with me. Mon, racing from 6 pm til 11pm. Tues 6pm till 9:30, wed 6 till 9 Friday 6 till 10 and Sunday for another 4 hrs.

Tuning change? Are we going to "default" or somethin? Oh god

You're sure right. She's sure pretty patient with you. She deserves an award. And you want some good licks.

If I may;

Knockhill is an awesome track, especially with the Clio. It’s the perfect speed, size, and the curbs are wicked to bounce over. But I don’t think it does very well for promoting clean racing with a full room. I already have visions of turn one lap one mayhem. It’s like T1 at Daytona where it looks so inviting... until you get in there and realize “oh shiet” and spin off the track taking out half the field. (Looking at you Lobban ;) )

Not sure what the track will be, but I know we ran there mid week so I figured it was up for consideration. Of course just my two cents so take from it what you will, hope to actually be there this week

Haha......no, was referring to the tuning change in the game and the live track. It's not as easy to just grab a tune and drive now so we figured it best to let all have a chance on the track before hand and get the car sorted. Will make for better racing.

There were nine votes this week, 8-1 for the Clio. Sorry bear, you're gonna have to get some FWD lessons before Monday, lol.

Will announce the track this afternoon. We were actually going to choose Caldwell Park but you can only race a maximum of 12 there :(

On another note, F1 is at COTA this weekend. I already like Carlos Saintz Jr as a driver, but I guess with his move to Renault I will have to be an even bigger supporter. The car's yellow and black and has my race number!

It better not be at night!!....I got lost last time.
The headlights are friggin' awesome on PCars 2. HUGE improvement over the last game. Not too much sight, to make it unrealistic, but just right in my opinion. I love night races now.

On another note, anyone know what happened to the Penguin? I see he's been banned from GTPlanet.:scared: I never imagined he'd take something so far as to get banned, even if he did ruffle a few feathers from time to time.

It matters not about headlights....someone took out the pylons, I went straight instead of turning...next thing I know I'm wandering around in a field without a fargin tree in sight!!!... bears don't do well in a field with no trees!!!!... especially at night!!.
Ok...look...I'm ok with night races.....but there have to be boundaries, trees, walls, some sort of reference. Just no FLAT AS A PANCAKE WIDE OPEN FIELD!!!!!!!.........huff huff huff.....
Let's not speak of this again....

Found it strange I hadn't seen him on for a while. Wonder what incident got him banned?

Re DP:
Most people don't know the half of it when it comes to him. As far back as a year and a half ago or more he was just one IR away from getting banned. It's not so much some of the stuff he has said in the forum, and he is on many threads, it's his pm's to people and what happens in those. I don't know what happened to get him banned, but I'm sure he finally crossed the line with the wrong person. He has had so many second chances it boggles the mind, all I can say is good riddance!

I am just not able to get into GTS. Sofar I've painted a few cars, but the selection of cars and tracks is poor. In PCars2, I just got done driving the Lotus 98T at COTA and Monaco. Pure simulated passion.
No idea what the GTS people are thinking..AND I still have to earn money to buy cars. WTF over?

Yup. That's one of the things I preferred with Pcars. You get all your cars from the get-go. No need to have to go through a multitude of driving school and career/mission challenges which could be a pain in the azz to have cars unlocked and/or to progress in the game.

Exactly.

While I'm in a 'feedback' mood: not sure I'm real hip on the track announcement idea. Just because - while everyone may 'be on' during the week, driver A might be on for 20 hours and driver B for 3. It still tilts the balance and detracts a bit from the concept and 'simulated realism' of everybody showing up to the track on the same day. However knowing and practicing with the car on various tracks 'should' be enough to insure clean racing.
On a personal note I feel if we know the track and car, now I feel obligated to practice that particular combo for Monday to have a competitive chance and it makes the whole process almost a 'job' instead of just showing up to have fun.
Just my .02 coconuts.

Thanks for the feedback Shawn, we thought we would try this out and see how it goes for a bit. It will likely be Saturday's before the track gets announced so it doesn't leave too much time for practice.
Our main thinking behind this was to give some time to get set up, and even if a driver only gets an hr in before Monday he'll have some idea of how the car will be. And that had better lead to cleaner first laps, we are getting a little tired of people getting taken out by others trying to win a race in the first few corners. Winning is nice, but this series was started mainly to have fun close racing for mid pack drivers. We also want to see a bit more patience taken by some of the faster guys, the races are 30 minutes so there is lots of time to work through the pack. I'm not just picking on the faster guys here, this applies to all.
Sorry to sound harsh, but even though we want this series to be laid back and fun, things can get out of control and start heading in the wrong direction. We are not going to let that happen, and if we have to start making some harder decisions to get things back to where we want the series to be, then we will.
Ok, BoB rant finished!
So let's have a good clean fun night this week!

Don't want to belabour but let's face it, on the matter of tunes, most of the more experienced racers more likely would already have tunes or already added tunes built to their arsenal as time progressed for various cars and associated tracks or more versed in adjusting tunes to suit whatever, which puts guys like me at more of a disadvantage who for the most part the thousand and one various parameters in settings/categories is like rocket science other than adjusting fuel and selecting tyres for weather conditions.

At least with car and track named ahead we could at least search for a pre-made tune already done by some more experienced user and if found could apply if need be. At least that gives us a better chance to enjoy. If we find a tune all well and good. If we don't well so be it. At least we could still do some practise laps with the car and associated track before hand to familialise if we choose to so do. So for me I welcome the decision and hope it remains.
