Going to bow out. I can't commit to the entire night, and don't want to take a spot if someone else wants to race.

@GT: That Merlyn would have been fun, too bad you got rid of it. The prices seem pretty decent, and I'm not looking to do wheel-to-wheel racing and instead just blast around the track for fun. Being based on VW equipment means spares shouldn't be too expensive, and I like to wrench, so... I was looking at fender cars, but at least with these small open wheelers I can use my old motorcycle trailer and wife's Q7 to tow it. Most likely I could even get a hitch for my DD and would be able to pull the trailer to the track. I figure about $1/$1.5k per season for track fees, fuel, tires, and maintenance parts. I blew out the master cyclinder and brake power booster in my 928, and I'm looking at about $1k in parts alone. To have a shop fix it is about $2,500 because it's a b*tch to do with the motor in place. That's why I want a new toy that's (slightly) cheaper to run, and I would love to get a sportbike again but one more highside and my back will be totalled for probably the rest of my life.

Sorry about the long post...
In post #599 Bear was joking about buying his own X-mas presents (and forgetting what he bought himself). If you're like me, you probably just buy what you want throughout the year which makes it hard for family members to figure out what to get us for a gift. I've thrown together a list in case you guys are looking for ideas to "suggest" to your family what you might want. I have most of the stuff on this list and can vouch for them. Also, at the end are links to a couple of trackcars I'm looking at. Robbie has driven something similar, so I'm just wondering how they are and if I'll even fit (5'10, 205#, 35 waist).

Real racecars:

I was looking at getting a shifter kart, but at 5’10 205# I’m too big for them. My Porsche is getting too valuable and expensive to maintain for doing track days, so I was thinking on getting a track car. Here are a couple of local options. Any advice or suggestions on a car? I’d rather keep it under $7k, but I know this guy is ready to make a deal:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/d/formula-first-race-car/6376743032.html

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/d/2012-tomahawk-p1-formula/6376743295.html

I’m fortunate that I have 3 road racing tracks about an hour away - Pikes Peak Int’l Raceway, Pueblo Motorsports Park and High Plains Raceway, and then Bandimere Speedway for drag racing/kart racing is only 30 minutes away.

Buy a Formula Veeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Crazy cheap to run, parts are easy enough to find, and if you decide to do wheel to wheel we’re still the best subscribed open wheel class in Canada and the US. Not only that but you can get a very competitive turn key car for in and around the price point you mentioned.

Formula Fords are awesome, but if you want to learn how to go fast Formula Vee is where it’s at.

Race night! If you haven't already, please make sure and read Report #2 for details on the changes for tonight.

Max starting fuel for tonight is 30 liters, you might need a bit more than 60 total for the GP layout and a bit less for the Short layout, so set your fuel in Pit Strategy accordingly.

Remember, active drivers have priority over non-active, but only until 8:30 pm. You have to be on either list to run tonight. (report#4)
When joining room tonight, enter lobby in the car you will be racing in Race 1

Race 1 - GP - 18 laps
Group A - Ford
Group B - Vette

Race 2 - GP - 18 laps
Group A - Vette
Group B - Ford

Race 3 - Short - 26 laps
Group A - your choice (Vette or Ford)
Group B - your choice (Vette or Ford)

@Kgffy -you will be in Group A
@HOBBZ -you will be in Group B

Sorry guys, been having issues with my charging cable. I had it plugged in and my controller still died going up the hill with 100% throttle. I bounced off the wall and I really hope I didnt take cbracer out. My apologies if I did.

On that note, I just ordered a T300RS wheel and hope to have a rig setup before Christmas.

Thanks for having me guys! Had a blast as always, and remember to use that mute button in the future .

Also if you got passed by Camel tonight it probably looked loke this

Those are pretty nice! If you're going to go racing though, remove the words 'keep it under $xx' from your vocab. Do it though, do it!
In 1989 is when I bought my little Merlyn Club Ford - Paid $2500 for the roller and $2500 for the motor. I was 19 on a shoestring budget and most of the other guys were doctors and lawyers or some sort of professional. At the time I could have gotten a FVee for about $3K, but I wanted a 'real car'.
But I say do it if you can, even if you have to settle for a fender car and only a few times a year.
PMI is a really great track!
There was one guy that raced at gimli, on a budget in the 80s, he raced a vw beetle, brought it to the track in the back of his dump truck. He was good at staying out of the way, but he was having fun.

What a bunk night... Couldn’t tell you how many times I spun tonight, I lost count after 15... Dunno who got collected in the toe of the boot on race 1 at the start but I’m sorry if I hit you after I got steamrolled through the brake zone. We all went in nice and then I heard yelling and looked in my mirror and just accepted my fate :(

I wondered what happened for you to loose control like that.

Missed you by inches.

Best decision you made is to buy a wheel. Completely different experience!!

Great racing last night fellows. Had to make a splash and go with 3 laps to go on the last race, gave lobban the last spot on the podium :(

Like @CB_racer I just missed colliding with a few cars during that which set me and CB up for some lap after lap close racing. I think I started in 8th for the second race and like you thought the start fired off fine then poof, a ton of smoke and sideways race cars. Not sure how I made it through. Unfortunate for you but set me up for my first win since joining this league! Loved it! Was looking forward at the opportunity to race my way towards this weeks "Mr.Awesome" for the final race but the ProjectCars gods weren't having it and decided to give me the yellow arrow pointing downward as if I was saving the ultimate setup, forced into a retire... Great racing last night guy's

Guy's,
I am very sorry for loosing my temper last night during race 1 and at the start of race 2, but I got pushed to my limit and had to say something as I felt, as one of the organizers, that it was needed at the time. I am in this to have fun, and I don't mind putting in the time required to run a series, but fun certainly was not in the equation for the first two races last night and I was ready to walk away. But I parked my car in the garage, poured a whiskey and went for a stroll and calmed down. Next time, I will just park my car right away and deal with the situation in the background, as my outburst certainly didn't help with anything during the racing.

Ok, for the most part I think the class division and starting change was better but I'm not convinced it's the answer. There were three drivers that were not able to get in at the start last night as well. Mike and I will have to talk this over some more and make a decision for next week.

The overall win and "Mr. Awesome" title goes to @The__Camel for a second week in a row!

Yup, thought it was pretty uncharacteristic of you myself as you're usually such a cool guy. The whisky break was probably a good idea all things considered. Really not worth it to get that angry. Stress is a killer.

No worries Steve, you and lobban put in a lot of time to run these leagues for us all to have fun. One person dominating the chat is not fair on the rest of the room. You were justified, other racers were trying to communicate their positions and could not be heard, resulting in unnecessary collision.
Most times this is beneficial to me, as I'm usually starting near the back and able to pick my way thru the carnage.
And hats off to gutter, in that last race he was reeling me in... one more lap and he'd have got me.

As a new racer here I just want to say THANK YOU guys for organizing this series. I really appreciate the time you put into it.

I have been racing since GT3 and have never participated in organized racing before. I believe it was GT4 or GT5 (the one with shuffle, loved it), there was a good group that used to race together frequently, I remember KG, GUTTER, CAVEMENBOB, PIETVLO, REALSUGAR, BC and others. Well, with time that group dispersed and racing got frustrating in public lobbies.

Now, I get excited on race nights. It's awesome. Pleasure racing you all.

Ever watch touring car masters in Australia?... old muscle cars done up to be almost as fast as the v8 supercars. Very competetive, and the coverage is awesome, they make sure to focus on the close battles no matter where in the pack they are.. even for 10th place. If it's good close racing, they cover it. Too often the focus is on a boring 1,2,3rd. Where they are 5-10 seconds apart. The aussies know how to race and how to cover a race..
check it out on face tube.

I watch those regularly, best racing on the web. Try Brazilian stock cars, even better.

What??? No mention of of Lobban getting the Wankerness trophy? 4th overall for the night. It's nice to bond with a car like that.

One point, bwaaaaaaa, waaaaaa waaaa. Priceless.

The peace and quiet for the remainder of the night....also priceless. It was needed.

Looks like two rooms next week, get your friends to send Steve and I FRs, to join.

Gotta hand it to the Japanese. And I didnt hear any complaints about Bears pitcrew last night. He probably surprised them with wontons before the race

They screwed up and didn't change tires... but it turned out to be the best choice. They'll never stop rubbing that one in.

A4E606D1-74BE-4A61-BFCD-6B46CA783FF2.jpeg That oval track motorcycle race was surprising. The hunchback #5 named Quasi-moto (get it?) on the 1970 Schwinn Stingray actually beat 2 sportbikes. Impressive. I guess it’s true that the driver/rider is the biggest deciding factor.
